LG's 84-inch Ultra-high definition TV is out in the UK at last, although to buy it you'll need pockets so deep that James Cameron wants to mount an expedition to find the bottom.
The monstrous gogglebox (official name 84LM960V) has a whopping 3,840x2,160 pixel resolution, which means it packs four times as many pixels as a 1080p screen.
Those pixels are spread like electric butter over an 84-inch LED panel, while a 2.2 speaker system including two 10W speakers and two 15W woofers provides built-in audio. Something tells me if you're spending this much on a telly however, you'll already have a ceiling-shaking sound system ready to go.
The headline feature is certainly this telly's mind-expanding girth, but it has some other natty features as well, including smart TV apps like Netflix, Blinkbox and BBC iPlayer, as well as 3D capabilities.
There's currently next to nothing you can watch in a resolution that high, meaning that half of your available pixels will be on the bench most of the time. Still, if you want to futureproof your living room against the advance of 4K video, this is a bold way to do so.
The bad news is, unless you're reading this from your money-powered gold yacht, you almost certainly can't afford this TV. It costs £22,500, though LG says that does include delivery, survey and standard installation, so really it's a bargain. Or not.
The mammoth TV will be on sale in 10 shops across the UK and Ireland, including John Lewis Sloane Square, Bentalls Kingston and Richer Sounds Southampton.

"The monstrous gogglebox (official name 84LM960V) has a whopping 3,840x2,160 pixel resolution, which means it packs at least twice as many pixels as a 1080p screen." - Twice as many lines, four times as many pixels.

Yeah still at least twice as many. He was just playing it safe.

I'll get one out my pocket money.... OR I could get 2 x 50inch screen tv's and put them side by side or on top of each other for about £2000 or less.. AND is it just me and my bad eyesight but I can't tell much difference in tv's other than some are 'brighter' than others....

@jopov123
Firstly, you can't make them output the same signal spread across both screens. Secondly, in order to get the same resolution and aspect ratio with that kind of clarity, you'd need 4 televisions, not 2. Also the bezels would make it a very different experience to a 4k TV.

Very expensive will get when 4K becomes the norm like FULLHD 3D Smart of today! then it will be cheaper than now! plus some more prettier models with more features may come out soon plus not much outputs 4k at the moment!
I have had my current tv for just over 6months (65inch smart 3d fullHD tv for a modest £3000 at currys).......that should keep me going for a bit!

I'm going to purchase 8 of these bad boys for Christmas!
anonymous 1 December, 2012 02:45
That's stupid, I only see this TV in rich peoples houses, I bet it only costs a fraction to produce! It costs an average mans yearly salary of 22k.. I wouldnt swap that for a TV!!
anonymous 1 December, 2012 02:49
I'd rather buy a brand new car!!
anonymous 2 December, 2012 18:46
Just stupid. Give the money to me or to another good cause. Buying this will not make your viewing experience much better. I'm sure you could buy a proper cinema screen for less than this.

i think if making such tv ... notch should b added to sound system as it is well sayed in abov explanation that if one is going to buy such tv ... one will surely arrang for special sound system

Who are they kidding, at that price, no thank you. The reason that I have not gone and bought a replacement LCD or LED tv was because of the price, so what chance have they of selling me an OLED or 4K tv at their prices. A wise man says that its better to sell more and cheaper tvs then no tvs at all. Its a shame that companies don't see it that way. Apple used to do it that way, until they became greedy. Selling more with smaller profit is always better than selling less with less profit.

If this is a standard edge lit or back lit LED, it WILL have back light bleeding, no matter how much it costs.
