Sharp as a tack: the new 65-inch Aquos LCD

Televisions

Sharp's Berlin IFA showing was impressive for a number of reasons. The Japanese company not only had an endless supply of 65-inch LCDs, but four dancers would come on periodically and dance along to lyrics such as "Aquos -- better than reality" and "You need a second TV". Crave sidestepped the unbearably good looking people and got a snap of the new flagship Aquos LCD, which will be available to buy later in the year for an estimated price of £13,000. Don't expect to find them in Dixons, though -- these will be on an extremely limited release.

You have to wonder why anyone wanting an image of this size wouldn't just buy a projector, but seeing the LCD paired up with a Sharp Blu-ray player was a revelation. No pun intended, but this was the sharpest TV we've ever seen.

Aside from the most indulgent pieces of home entertainment ever, Sharp was also showing off its two-way LCD screen. The idea is that one person will be able to use the LCD from the left angle for computer work, and the other will be able to watch a DVD movie from the right side. It's impressive stuff -- the computer screen wasn't as sharp as a normal monitor, but at least you can play Battlefield 2 while the missus watches EastEnders.

Sharp also has a new line of more modest-sized Aquos LCD TVs in the works, and we'll be sure to keep you fully up to date on the new range. -GC
