Humax LGB-26TPVR: the perfect LCD TV?

Televisions

Crave loves flatscreen televisions, but there's alway some little niggle that stops us falling head over heels for any particular model. Then along come the whizz kids at Humax. They're whipping up a dream product, a slender 26-inch LCD TV that somehow manages to squeeze in a Freeview tuner and a 40GB hard drive recorder, as well as high-definition compatibility. At a stroke this snake-hipped charmer cuts out the need for at least two separate boxes in our living room, and will also be ready for whatever new-fangled high-def video technology Japan is incubating.

The LGB-26TPVR's features list is also bursting at the seams. It has two Freeview tuners which mean we'll be able to watch one programme while recording another. Advanced channel hoppers can also use Picture-in-Picture across these tuners to watch different channels and recordings at the same time, just like Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future II...

The depth of the screen suffers slightly thanks to the sheer amount of technology packed in there, but we can't emphasise just how monumental the release of this television is. We hope this relatively small Korean outfit will have enough success with it to send a clear message to the big boys to catch up. At £1,400, it's a bit of a bargain too -- we'll see if it has the picture quality to match in an upcoming review. -GC
