Windows Phone 7.8 out on Wednesday, rumours say

Windows Phone owners may have a reason to get excited, as rumours have surfaced claiming the Windows Phone 7.8 update will arrive in just two days.

An anonymous tipster says the longed-for update will arrive on Wednesday 28 November, wmpoweruser reports. The update will bring a slew of intriguing new features to pre-Windows Phone 8 devices, including a refreshed homescreen with resizable live tiles and new theme colours.

The update is also reckoned to bring a new lock screen that updates with information taken directly from apps (a feature taken from Windows Phone 8), as well as Bluetooth file sharing, security upgrades to Internet Explorer and an MP3 editor for crafting custom ringtones. Tasty.

Earlier rumours pegged Windows Phone 7.8's release date as early next year, which would be at least a month later than this fresh rumour. I'm sure many Windows Phone fans out there have their fingers tightly crossed that the 28 November date turns out to be the real one.

Windows Phone 7.8 is an olive branch to those who were denied entry to the Windows Phone 8 update ark. The news that all Windows Phone devices that came out prior to Windows Phone 8 (including recent mobiles like the Nokia Lumia 900) would never be updated was not gratefully received by those who'd splashed out on Microsoft's relatively new operating system -- we called it a sucker punch to fans.

No update for LG Optimus 7?

Meanwhile it looks like the LG Optimus 7 may be denied the Windows Phone 7.8 update, as Polish site wp7.com.pl reports that an email to LG customer service provoked a response that the Optimus 7 wouldn't get a bite of the new software.

That could be a mistake, though. Here's hoping anyone who did buy the Optimus 7 isn't left hanging when the update rolls into town.

Are you gasping for the Windows Phone 7.8 update? Or are you happy with your Windows Phone as it is? Tell me in the comments or on our Facebook wall.

Why are CNET still desperately trying to claim that windows phone 7.5 users were outraged by the lack of a Windows Phone 8. I saw very few people say that it was a problem for them.

If we're honest this obsession with updates is very much an Android thing, and the majority of users aren't they bothered, mostly just those with nothing better to do than try and wind up Apple generally moan.

Good news for WP7. Just cannot wait to have 7.8 update, as the current home screen is not great - just two columns of tales!

I love my Lumia 900 with 7.5. However the updated lock and home screen will be more than enough to keep me happy until my upgrade.

Does anyone know what the interface program will be for pc synching? Obviously Zune is going to die with WP8, will it be X BoxLive?
