iPhone 5 teased by Vodafone Australia

iPhone 5 hot topic

Let's put it this way: we don't think it's an HTC under that red cover.

This is what's popped up on the Vodafone Australia site, spotted by Boy Genius Reports, promising to "end the rumours" and offering customers the chance to register for "info on this year's biggest smart phone release." Now could that possibly be an iPhone 5? We think it could.

Hints don't come much more obvious than this, short of putting a flashing banner on its website saying: "iPhone 5 coming soon." So it seems Vodafone will be carrying it in Australia. Strange for a network to put such a teaser ahead of the official announcement, but with all these rumours flying around, you'd have to be in quite severe denial to say it won't be here very soon.

Naturally there's no word on which networks will have the iPhone 5 in the UK, but with an announcement due on 4 October, we'll find out pretty soon.

The iPhone 5 is so close we can practically taste it. As well as the rumoured announcement next Tuesday, it's expected to go on sale in the second week of October. At least, that's what the holiday ban for Apple employees would hint.

Whether it'll just be the one handset, or an iPhone 5 and an iPhone 4S, however, everyone is less certain. Al Gore seemed to hint there would be more than one model, but analysts disagree. What is certain is there'll be queues round the block come launch day.

The iPhone 5 is expected to have a tapered design, a dual-core processor, a bigger screen and 8-megapixel camera. And look here -- we've got an animated infographic giving a history of the iPhone.
