Google warmed the cockles of Web advertising salesmen the world over, announcing massive profits that signal an upturn in online ad spend. Google made $1.6bn on overall revenue of $6bn for the third quarter of the year, up by 7 per cent on the same period in 2008. "While there's obviously a lot of uncertainly about pace of economic recovery, we believe the worst of the recession is behind us," said CEO Eric Schmidt.
