Android 4.2 Jelly Bean looks to have a fatal flaw, if reports from irate Android fans are to be believed. It seems the spangly new software struggles to cope with Bluetooth, and stutters during music playback.
That's bad news if you have a portable Bluetooth speaker or use the wireless tech in the car while driving. One person writes in Google's coding forum, "When I stream music from my Nexus 7 to my Bluetooth speaker system it is stuttering every few seconds -- unusable."
Another says, "This is happening on my Nexus 7 as well. Very disappointed," while one glumly notes, "I may just return this Nexus as I just bought it and get an iPad." Meanwhile, on the XDA Developers forum, a Nexus 7 owner says, "I am highly disappointed in Google for this."
The Nexus 7 is mentioned frequently in the forum, but there are other devices running Android 4.2 or about to be running Android 4.2 -- namely the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, the Google Nexus 4 and Nexus 10.
Our in-office Nexus 7 hasn't received the update to Android 4.2 yet, so we can't verify the glitch -- but if you have an Android device running the latest version, let us know if Bluetooth playback is working for you by dropping us a note in the comments or on our Facebook wall.
Some commenters' posts suggest the issue could be connected to Wi-Fi, while many report the issue wasn't present in previous versions of Android.
It seems glitches are common with new software or gadgets these days -- hands up if you remember the Galaxy Nexus' bizarre volume-dropping bug? They tend to be ironed out before too long, but that doesn't make them any less frustrating for customers, and doubly grating if you're one of the dedicated few who installed the new update at the first opportunity.
Android 4.2 is the very latest version of Android, and brings new features such as Photo Sphere and multiple users on tablets.
Have you spied any Bluetooth woes with your Android kit? Is it not behaving properly?
Update 16 November: CNET reader George Taylor emailed in to report that, after updating to Android 4.2, his Nexus 7 no longer connects with his Bluetooth mouse, which had worked "perfectly" with Android 4.1. Anyone else had similar peripheral problems?

Well to add a data point I have just paired my Jelly Bean Nexus 7 with my Nokia 360 Bluetooth speaker that I got free with my Lumia 920 and even the explosion-tastic Transformers plays fine through it without stuttering.
I received the update to 4.2 around 2 days ago but never paired it up with anything until now.

Bluetooth File Transfer app no longer works. It pops up an error box saying "Can't initialize low-level Bluetooth library"
anonymous 15 November, 2012 19:58
I have the same issue on my tablet since the upgrade to 4.2. Bluetooth connections no longer work, though I can still detect and pair with devices.
anonymous 15 November, 2012 21:48
No problems with my N7 running JB 4.2 and paired with Samsung BT headset.
anonymous 15 November, 2012 22:19
Upgraded my Galaxy Nexus to 4.2 last night and now it no longer pairs with my car's Bluetooth. They see each other, bit can't connect.
anonymous 16 November, 2012 01:45
My Nexus 7 updated to 4.2 without asking a few days ago. Bluetooth hasn't worked since. Two error messages, both giving the impression that Bluetooth will never function again, pop up whenever an app using the function is loaded. Bummer.
anonymous 16 November, 2012 02:14
I HATE, and I really mean it, I HATE the new update! I need to rollback to 4.1!! If this was supposed to be an update, it is now a serious drawback! THIS HAS GOT TO BE A JOKE! Everything is wrong! Lock screen clock is so annoying, Applications taking forever to load, many of my applications not working correctly, others not compatible!
My main calendar application: JORTE just doesn't work anymore! I will NEVER install another update until I am sure it will not mess up my tablet ever again!!
If my Nexus 7 would have been acting like it is right now when I first got it, I would have return it right away! I feel robbed!
anonymous 16 November, 2012 02:33
Just upgraded my Galaxy Nexus and now I can't even turn Bluetooth on.
anonymous 16 November, 2012 02:38
Google really dropping the ball AAGAIN-. Since 4.2 apps crashing often. Bluetooth pairing gone and weirdly enough having touch screen issues that were not there before.. IPad mini here I come.. Google stick to search engines
anonymous 16 November, 2012 02:38
The clock is HORRIBLY annoying like the above user said; bold font for hour, really??
Today while trying to get a conference call setup for work, I had my Galaxy Nexus's bluetooth suddenly disconnecting from the car every couple minutes, and when trying to reconnect it refused to do so - unless I toggled BT on the phone and readded the car every time.
Never had any issues with my Nexus before this and I absolutely loved the phone! It worked great, it had a clean UI.. how can I roll back without rooting!?!?
anonymous 16 November, 2012 05:00
Bluetooth is definitely broken on my Nexus 7 since the update on Nov. 13. It was rock-solid in my car before the update and is barely functional since. Tried multiple re-pairings, etc., to no effect. The device has also taken to spontaneous reboots (two in the past three hours).
anonymous 16 November, 2012 05:49
Upgraded to 4.2 on my Galaxy Nexus this morning and bluetooth connections ping pong between off and on. Very, very annoying. I had to go back to my wired headset.
anonymous 16 November, 2012 07:47
Same issue here. Pandora and Netflix are unusable with my Bluetooth headphones. Worked great before on my Nexus 7 before 4.2.
James Cross 16 November, 2012 08:26
Yes, The Bluetooth audio stutter occurs with every android device I have ever had with my Kenwood head unit. It works fine with other units and as I rent a different car every week I see this problem with some and not others. The problem seems worse when WiFi is enabled. My theory is that the output sample rate on the head-unit is a couple of % faster than the music playing so after a couple of minutes or so there is a buffer under-run - where the head unit stops playing until it builds up a buffer of a second or so. It is difficult to see how you could fix that with software in android as its the receiver that manages the buffer it has.

Series of problems with installing 4.2 on my Nexus 7. Apps will not update, google+ reports 'Can't load data', and bluetooth will no longer connect to my separate keyboard. I note that the first 2 of these problems also now affect my Galaxy Nexus even though it has not been updated, and is still running 4.1.2, implying to me that some flag has been set at google central that is causing problems. The bluetooth issue seems to me likely to be unrelated to the other two.

Nexus 7 won't connect with my phone following jelly bean update 4.2
anonymous 16 November, 2012 11:34
Updated Wednesday.
20 or 30 times whilst I was watching the downloaded MIB3, the video would stop, pause for a second (show the working icon) then continue the film.
anonymous 16 November, 2012 11:50
For me, Bluetooth works fine if the screen is on but cuts out every few seconds if the screen is turned off.
anonymous 16 November, 2012 12:02
I received the update for my Nexus 7 last night. Made some seriously ugly font changes to the lock screen and the settings feature has completely vanished from the Notifications bar. Oh, and I now get an odd screen glitch when I first open up the lock screen. Haven't tried Bluetooth yet but so far I'm regretting installing this update.
James Cross 16 November, 2012 13:20
My side loaded iPlayer bodge now no longer works.
anonymous 16 November, 2012 13:45
updated 2 days ago. no issues. Watched full episode of Sorpoanos with bt ASL cans using google standard media player as MX not supported in 4.2. Unsupported apps is the price for cutting edge OS I guess... Better than owning a gadget with the h/ware to support newer OS but carriers/manufacturers not bothering to update (yes Moto - I'm looking at you! Atrix still on 2.3!)

Heres a vid I uploaded this morning to show the problem.

Before the upgrade was using Bluevpn to tether to my nokia E5 successfully, not any more
anonymous 16 November, 2012 16:25
For the first time in a while, my n7 gets an IP address allocated over a bluetooth tether. Still doesn't seem to transfer any data, though.

I updated my Nexus 7 manually using ADB. Never used Bluetooth for audio but connecting to phone and Bluetooth mouse works fine.
anonymous 16 November, 2012 19:24
Just updated my Nexus 7/32/WiFi to 4.2 and found Apple BT keyboard still works fine.
anonymous 16 November, 2012 23:28
My bluetooth keyboard will no longer pair after 4.2 update
anonymous 17 November, 2012 02:36
4.2 drops wifi repeatedly. Laggy. Plays to speaker when headphones in. POS. How can i roll back?
anonymous 17 November, 2012 06:46
I got the android 4.2 update and Bluetooth does not even turn on, very much disappointed in Google.
anonymous 17 November, 2012 11:11
4.2 has ruined my Google Nexus 7. Can't pair with my phone anymore, the clock looks horrible, screen filter app which I use a lot doesn't work. I've also lost root access.
How do I roll back to 4.1.2?
anonymous 17 November, 2012 12:46
I wished I'd waited until any bugs were sorted out. I had hoped the loose screen on my Nexus was just a one off, but the replacement I was given has also got this issue. Now Bluetooth won't connect or drops out. It's starting to take the shine off this gadget.
anonymous 17 November, 2012 13:06
If it was only bluetooth but it is a real mess on my Nexus 7, nothing is working right after that upgrade. Not only apps but also main system stuff. Why do we have to re-install apps after a minor upgrade? Everything is "not responding". Totally broken tablet. Thanks Google.
anonymous 17 November, 2012 13:37
Installed 4.2 this morning. everything fine runs just as smooth as 4.1.2 bluetooth working. using HD widgets which allows 5 different clocks to be put on lock screen. Clean install un-rooted.
anonymous 17 November, 2012 13:57
I absolutly loved the nexus 7 when I bought it in August and now I have an absolutly bad taste in my mouth.
Kaspersky doesn't work, bluetooth doesn't work, laggy performance, battery life seriously shortened and I am desperately trying to find a way to rollback to 4.1.2.
I have ordered my wife not to upgrade her nexus 7 and I will not be upgrading on my Samsung Galaxy nexus.
It has seriously has put me off getting another android device.
anonymous 17 November, 2012 14:31
Nexus 7 4.2 update broke MM Tracker which used t work perfectly. Now it exits every time a Map is loaded.
very Flaky Bluetooth connect ability, not so much an upgrade, more like lets see what we can break...
anonymous 17 November, 2012 14:45
Bluetooth audio studders on and off. Previous version worked flawlessley. It drives me nuts and is un useable. This is a function I use everyday because my Nexus 7 is installled in my car. I can't even use it now. Very disappointed in google for realeasing an unstable update which disables one of the tablets most important features
Androidian 17 November, 2012 15:18
Took the Android 4.2 auto-update on my Nexus 7 (16 gig) yesterday and noticed that my Motorola KZ450 remote bluetooth keyboard was no longer recognized. It would also not find it when I scanned for it. It worked perfectly before the 4.2 update. Looks like we need a 4.2.1 Android update from Google soon.
anonymous 17 November, 2012 15:43
Sennheiser MM 550 Bluetooth headphones now studders with update 4.2. Wôrked fine with 4.1.
anonymous 17 November, 2012 15:48
I don't normally use Bluetooth, but the update to my Nexus 7 tablet now causes both the "native" Chrome browser and Firefox (my preferred browser) to randomly exit back to the tablet's Home screen. There's never any warning at all. VERY annoying, and makes browsing the Web a very frustrating experience.
anonymous 17 November, 2012 15:49
We definitely need someone to post detailed directions to rollback to 4.1.2 on the Nexus 7 tablet *without* losing your apps or data!
anonymous 17 November, 2012 15:52
I have the same Bluetooth stutter. Also the update has broken my Logmein Ignition app that I paid $19 for. Refund please google! I have an Ipad and Iphone. The N7 was my first Android device. I was loving it and thinking I would go to the Android ecosystem for my future phone and tablets. This update fiasco has be re-thinking that!
anonymous 17 November, 2012 16:05
My Nexus 7 worked perfectly, with just some lagginess and stuttering, plus a few Chrome issues, but since the update it's become a mess.
I've got the same Bluetooth problems as those mentioned above and Chrome is even worst than before. The browser is sometimes just freezing and shutting down too. There seems to be a general instability caused by this update. Why was it not tested properly?
Can I roll the OS back to the previous version?
anonymous 17 November, 2012 16:16
Just spent 2 hours rooting to get back to 4.1. Hubby isn't going to update his. Bluetooth issues, problems with video playback. Apps no longer working. Don't understand why they have obviously rushed this update without much testing it seems. Now just wish could get rid of the nagging reminders I don't want this update again ever! Google made a big mistake.
anonymous 17 November, 2012 17:02
Not tried Bluetooth, but wireless is awful now. In the same room as a 50mb router and get one bar or no connection. Also, the screen dims in and out and also typing has an annoying delay now. Its like a Google downgrade rather than an update. Not happy.
Androidian 17 November, 2012 18:17
So you are saying that butter is now more like peanut butter? And crunchy besides?
I haven't seen the reduced wireless and browser problems reported yet.
Maybe Appul sent that last update? :0
anonymous 17 November, 2012 22:13
I've had a nexus 7 updated today and its a nightmare. Lagging. Some apps are flashing on and off and are a bugger to shut down. Keep getting odd results like typing this message and suddenly being on internet elsewhere. Colours keep changing without me doing anything. Also very strange but all my book titles on kindle software have doubled up. Looks like I will have to backtrack and factory reset
anonymous 17 November, 2012 22:54
I don't understand what u people r saying!!!! 4.2 update works fantastic... I have a galaxy nexus as well as a nexus 7 here... And both work on 4.2 and it is awesome... No problems with Bluetooth or Wi-Fi... Try clearing cache or something... Best thing to do would be to backup data and do a factory reset... Sometimes when updates take place... Some file or apps from previous version bugs the new one.... I always do this.. And.... I have no problems yet.... Don't blame Google.. They r the best
jopov123 17 November, 2012 23:56
To: anonymous 17 November, 2012 22:54 You are SO wrong mate. I too have lots and lots of serious issues after the update and It's NOT about cache or conflicts or anything else. My nexus was clean, with no added apps, being only a few weeks old and arriving while I was on holiday and have had no time to 'cutomise' it. Existing apps also flashed and would not close. I have lost my bluetooth and also notice the colours fading in and out. I have done a factory reset but a lot of non-techy users will be struggling. If you look at the internet mate, there's thousands complaining after the update not just a few so there's obviously issues. And it's not awsome at all.
anonymous 18 November, 2012 00:58
It seems like every other version of Android has bluetooth broken. This is my experience across the various devices I have or have had:
3.0 - bluetooth worked fine
4.0.3 - bluetooth broken
4.0.4 - bluetooth worked fine
4.1 - bluetooth worked fine
4.2 - bluetooth broken again
anonymous 18 November, 2012 09:59
No problem here. My Plantronics Backbeat Go bluetooth headset continues to work fine after the Android 4.2 update.
anonymous 18 November, 2012 19:22
I have updated my Nexus 7 With 4.2. I am able to connect to other devices. However, i am not able to transfer Files from my tab to my computer or other devices via bluetooth and also i am not able to play music from my tab via bluetooth.. any idea what went wrong??
anonymous 19 November, 2012 00:15
eReader not working...very disappointed. forced me to use googleplay for my ebooks.
anonymous 19 November, 2012 01:04
my nexus 7 has same issue, Bluetooth streaming screwed up after 4.2 update. Pairing issues as well. Just so fed up with Google for this. This is just pathetic.
anonymous 19 November, 2012 02:52
Audio in everything stutters via my Motorola Bluetooth headphones. My Nexus 7 is only a day old and I really feel like taking it back.
Chris Rile 19 November, 2012 06:27
As I understand it, Android 4.2 included a pretty major change in bluetooth stack developers the abandoned the BlueZ software and included software from Broadcom. I've kept tabs on this as I await Bluetooth 4.0 (BLE) compatability. I'd guess that's what's caused all of these problems.
anonymous 19 November, 2012 13:21
My HP Touchpad bluettoth keyboard worked fine until the 4.2 upgrade. Doesn't work now.
anonymous 19 November, 2012 13:38
i guess its not just iOS with some problems ayy...
anonymous 19 November, 2012 17:18
My tethering is no longer working with 4.2 - quite annoying since I use a 3G connection where wifi is not available, using my blackberry.
This upgrade just broke my key need, is there a way to roll it back to 4.1?
anonymous 19 November, 2012 20:06
Yup, Jellybean update a couple of days ago killed my bluetooth on my Galaxy Nexus. It simply won't turn on at all. #Fail
anonymous 19 November, 2012 22:44
Going spare after the update. Lost exchange connection due to certificate request suddenly appearing. IT say exchange server is configured fine. Exchange was a breeze before this update. E mail is a priority need for me. Considering junking the nexus now and buying a reliable i pad - are you listening Google?
anonymous 20 November, 2012 01:25
Having touch screen issues. The touch screen seems to stop responding in my main admin account. In my sons and wife's account all seems to be working fine. My only work around when the touch screen stops respondingis to switch the screen off and then back on, for some reason this seems to bring the touch screen functionality back on. Hope Google sorta it out quick, it is annoying but hey its worth the hassle, once Google sorta it out this is a pretty good update, shame they didn't see these issues in their testing phase.
anonymous 20 November, 2012 03:58
I hate the new update. The clock is awful, and not only that, but when I tried to watch a video, I got the black screen of death and now I have lost EVERYTHING on my tablet. I tried to plug in to my laptop to see what was going on. It shows 0 items. Do not update your tablets.
anonymous 20 November, 2012 06:22
My Motorola KZ450 Bluetooth keyboard is also no longer being recognized by my Nexus 7 (8gb model). It isnt finding the keyboard in the scanning. Very disappointing, as I use the keyboard very often in class and now will not be able to unless I revert to 4.1 or Google patches this issue
anonymous 20 November, 2012 08:21
No problem pairing my Nexus 7 (4.2) with Galaxy Nexus (4.1.2) and transfer files using NFC or the normal Bluetooth share.
anonymous 20 November, 2012 10:02
I did the upgrade and now it wont browse properly. You google something, tap on one of the results and it goes to that page and then flicks back the google search list!!!!
CAn I just revert to factory settings and if so will I lose apps I have purchased???
Androidian 20 November, 2012 10:30
re: quoted text below...
I was able to restore my KZ450 by flushing out the Bluetooth settings in Settings/Apps/Bluetooth. Then go stop Bluetooth and turn it back on.
It picked up the Motorola keyboard and gave and accepted the code. All good after that. From what I've heard, the Bluetooth flush isn't helping folks with continuous stream connections but for static devices like this, it seems to be fine now.

No blue tooth since 4.2 update. Cant talk to my phone. Hopeless it is
:
anonymous 20 November, 2012 14:47
This is definitely occurring on my 4.2 N7, seems that whenever Wi-fi has to work hard, Bluetooth can't buffer, and ends up being almost useless.
Try watching a Youtube video with a bluetooth headset, and it simply is unbearable.
I used to be able to pair a keyboard mouse and headset, watch all sorts of streaming content with no issue.
Google better make this quick, Nexus devices should be the cream of the crop, and this is a poor showing
anonymous 20 November, 2012 17:50
Wifi on the Nexus 4 4.2 drops all the time - just turns gray and then radio drops as well. Google services then trash the battery trying to update. Nexus 7 is still functional, but lagging with 2nd user added to device.
anonymous 21 November, 2012 05:50
I updated to newest firmware as well and found out many of my apps quit working or crashed a lot. I restored to 4.1.1 and the problems disappeared. Then I was annoyed by the constant update box and was looking for a way to get rid of it and stumbled across this forum. While I was still on the newer firmware I did try sending files to a friends phone over Bluetooth and it would not connect after pairing. So I ultimately had the same issue with Bluetooth not working and didn't even know it was the new update that was stopping me.
anonymous 21 November, 2012 14:08
You know
I use my nexus 7 for my school work a lot
Yesterday I took an online test with my Bluetooth keyboard and it kept timing out
I've never noticed that before now....
Hakan 21 November, 2012 14:41
My bluetooth also brooked when I upgrade to 4.2 using OTA.
After trying lot of things I finally flashed the system image using Nexus Root Kit. It soled the problem without loosing any applications, data and settings.
anonymous 21 November, 2012 18:16
My galaxy nexus s phone has had terrible battery life, sluggish menus , loss of data connectivity and random restarts since the 4.2 upgrade.
anonymous 22 November, 2012 01:02
I'm on a Nexus 7 WiFi 16gb with ota 4.2 upgrade. Audio stutters when I'm using my Auria Bluetooth speaker to play a YouTube video, that's all I have tested as yet. Still pairs to my Motorola Bluetooth mouse and HTC Magic phone (PDANet tether) just fine.
anonymous 22 November, 2012 08:32
My husband and I have encountered Bluetooth headset problem after the update
anonymous 22 November, 2012 13:44
I'm using a Nexus 7 / 16GB WiFi only device up here in Canada.
Got the 4.2 JB update and immediately noticed a general sluggishness to the UI.
Immediately noticed the BT stuttering problem. (Confirmed this with both Sony BT-101 and BT-22 headsets).
I also noticed 2 other problems:
- the "Settings" icon disappeared from the Notifications bar;
- the face recognition app launch is now so slow that the app times out before it can find a face!
Seriously, the BT stuttering problem is the one I want to see addressed -- it's a Quality of Life issue for me!
anonymous 22 November, 2012 16:48
By Motorola bluetooth ear piece pairs to my Nexus 4, but the sound is very choppy. It sounds just like a call with bad reception right before the call drops. But when I turn off in-call bluetooth and switch back to the phone, the call quality is just fine.
While I'm complaining, lol, I am really annoyed that the Qi wireless charger is not available yet for the N4. And I am even more irritated that the Nexus 4 (and the bumper) is still SOLD OUT in the flippin Play Store. I just can't believe it. It's the day before Black Friday and no one can even preorder it with delayed shipping?? And without a peep from Google about it. It seems like a huge fail.
anonymous 23 November, 2012 05:04
I picked up my shiny new Nexus 4 yesterday and so far so good (well it's a massive improvement on my Nexus S!) with the exception of one major flaw / bug.
I spend at least 2 hours every day making and receiving calls and to avoid frying my brain I always use a bluetooth headset. My current headset is a Plantronics Voyager Pro which is a couple of years old (it has since been replaced by the Voyager Pro HD and more recently Voyager Pro Legend).
Whilst my Voyager Pro pairs with the phone callers are unable to hear me and all audio cuts out after a second to be replaced by a static clicking sound. I have tried another Plantronics headset with the same result. However the phone pairs with car and operates correctly. Should the newer Plantronics headsets resolve this issue I would be happy to invest in a newer version (or possibly an alternative - however the Voyager Pro is the best I have used).
Is anybody else else using a bluetooth headset without any issues?
How about anyone successfully using a Plantronics headset?
I see bluetooth issues have been widely reported in 4.2. Is it likely a software update will provide a fix?
Any suggestions as to how I can resolve this issue?
Thanks in advance.
anonymous 23 November, 2012 07:21
Panorama is broken. And photosphere is not supported.
anonymous 23 November, 2012 14:45
Bought the 16GB Nexus 7 at WalMart 2 weeks ago. Upgraded to 4.2 straight away. Bluetooth to my Logitech boom box stutters. (Boom box works fine with iPod touch). Called Google support and got right through. They said it was a software issue. Said I could do a factory reset. (Didn't). Someone mentioned missing Settings button in Notifications shade. There is a new shade you pull down from the top right side of the device that has the bottom.
anonymous 25 November, 2012 22:36
Got the update on my N7 Bluetooth never skipped a beat still works like a little champ. Did notice though some apps don't work any more or will force close a couple times but then they work after that...strange
anonymous 27 November, 2012 16:52
My Nexus 4 has dropouts when I stream podcasts, saved on my phone, to bluetooth. Sometimes it is repaired with a reboot, sometimes not.

Nexus 7 Bluetooth broken with latest Android update
anonymous 30 November, 2012 20:16
Bluetooth still broken after getting 4.2.1... Nexus 7. My wife was going to get me a Nexus 10 for Christmas, but I told her to wait now. I live on Bluetooth in the car. Currently it just stutters and stammers.
Androidian 30 November, 2012 22:13
Just successfully got my 4.2.1 updates on both Nexus 7 units.
I don't have any streaming devices on my bluetooth but my Motorola KZ450 keyboard still works after having restored it by flushing the cache after 4.2.
At least we have something new to test on and complain about. I hate complaining about old stuff, don't you?
anonymous 1 December, 2012 20:30
Just rolled back to 4.1.2 with the Nexus Root Toolkit V1.6.0.... I can't thank WugFresh enough, and will make a donation to their Paypal page. Their program, when you choose the correct version that you are currently using, will unlock your Nexus , root it and let you reset your Nexus device with the original factory version of your choice....mine was back to 4.1.2. My bluetooth is back!! Loud and stutter free! Then I downloaded a tool or two to stop the Upgrade Nag screens from bugging me or making an accidental update back to 4.2.

My Nexus 4 struggles to turn Bluetooth on -- it often requires a reboot -- but when it's turned on, music playback has worked properly.
anonymous 2 December, 2012 19:06
I updated our office's Nexus 7 to 4.2 yesterday. I'm headed to the UK tomorrow and planned to use the Nexus for among other things, skype calls back home. I hadn't paired my bluetooth headset with it yet, so I did that today. Thankfully I decided to test it, because IT DOESN'T F&@*ING WORK RIGHT because of the incessant stutter! Thanks Google, now I have to go buy a wired mic/earbud solution to this problem. Really too bad. The update allows multiple Google accounts, which I really needed (try that on an iPad), but it came with a price. Please FIX IT!
anonymous 2 December, 2012 20:40
I've had my Nexus 7 since June and used the bluetooth VERY HAPPILY with my Logitech mini Boombox for Hulu Plus, TuneIn Radio and other great apps. Now since I installed 4.2 update, the bluetooth doesn't work. It cuts in and out constantly. This ruins it for me! I will be contacting Google with my complaint.
anonymous 3 December, 2012 00:19
Totally thrilled with my Nexus 7 until this week after the 4.2.1 update. I can no longer connect with my keyboard, phone, and earpiece. Basically I now have a Kindle. I called Google tech support and all they could say was "we know" and "we weren't working on it." The fellow I spoke to implied I should not expect a solution any time soon.
anonymous 3 December, 2012 03:27
I’ve tried a couple of Plantronics Bluetooth plt 510 and Model 330 Bluetooth head sets ear piece that I have been using with my iPhone and Windows XP machines around the house. I typically only use them for phone calls either with the default phone or a Google voice phone app. On the Nexus 7 I can get them to pare but when I make a phone call and redirect the sound to the earpiece and it begins to screech like an AM radio next to a neon sign with a short in it. Ok so I’m showing my age now. For those of you that don’t know what AM radio is, please see Paul Harvey.
I called Google Support using my iPhone 4 with the same VOIP app and the Plantroics PLT 510 that I’m trying to use on the Nexus 7. The sound was perfect. The person I spoke to said that I was pushing the limits of the model (Nexus 7 16gig) and that’s why it didn’t work (right). He actually wasn’t really sure why it wasn’t working and went on to say I should go to the Nexus 7 32gig. So, I went back to the retailer and exchanged the unit for a Nexus 7 32gig and guess what? It has the same exact problem . At this point I'm not sure if it's a problem with the Hardware or Jelly Bean. If I knew that, I could make a decision on whether or not I'm going to keep the unit. Otherwise I’ll have to take it back because having the ability to make VOIP calls is important to me.

Idk if im the only one but its seems after the update my battery is draining like no other XO THIS FREAKIN PISSING ME OFF FIX IT AND TAKE ME BCK TO 4.1 I USED TO BE ABLE TO GO ON FOR 8-13 HOURS NOW ITS LESS THEN 6 HOURS NOW FIX IT AND GET RID OF THE STUPID BOLD CLOCK THING
anonymous 6 December, 2012 23:36
Using two different Nexus 7 32 GIG tablets, and two sets of SX-907C Bluetooth headphones, both have problem with whiney static noise being transmitted to the headphones every time audio is played back. Example, if you play music the noise is constant, but if you are just surfing the internet or doing other tasks, if there is an audio signal being transmitted, like the click of the keyboard, then the static noise will accompany the audio, then after a few seconds it will cease for the most part (only a much less annoying interval 'ticking' will remain). Then whenever another sound is transmitted the cycle repeats, the static noise comes back and then goes away after a few seconds if there is no more audio being transmitted from the Nexus 7 to the headphones.
The static whining is loud and extremely annoying and I've never heard it with any previous Bluetooth implementation. Can we look forward to a fix or should we just give up on the Nexus 7 as an audio device (which pretty much renders it useless for content consumption that it was designed for unless you use the wired jack or the internal speaker and forego Bluetooth entirely.)
Thanks,
anonymous 7 December, 2012 22:05
My Nexus 7 has 4.2.1 and Bluetooth works but my Nexus 4 with 4.2.1 won't turn it on. God damn it.
anonymous 8 December, 2012 11:25
I got my Nexus 7 on Tuesday and this morning it said there was a system update to 4.2 which I thought it had done, but it still says 4.1.2. When I ask it to check updates, it says it's up to date. There was allegedly a system update in the first 24 hours after I got it, but didn't know enough about the Nexus 7 then to even check if it had updated - I just assumed. On updating, it shows a picture of a droid laying down with a red warning triangle. Maybe that's the problem?
anonymous 11 December, 2012 04:39
I sold my galaxy tab 2 for the Nexus 7 and I regret it because I am an avid bluetooth headset and speaker user and I can not use the Nexus and live with the constant interuption. I have a galaxy s3 as well and when I moved over to cm10 4.2 rom bluetooth went to pots. Im back on 4.1.1 and things are great again on my s3. How do they release new item with broken bits? More importantly its rampant across the web and should be fixed like yesterday....
anonymous 11 December, 2012 10:17
Bought a Nexus 7 2 weeks ago and out of the box it upgraded to 4.2 without asking. Bluetooth devices (HTC Desire S & Dell Inspiron laptop) have paired but Nexus refuses to connect to them. Have tried various suggestions from other users but so far nothing's fixed the problem. It also totally refuses to recognise Bluetooth headphones. I think this is a major flaw from Google and I'm really disappointed that no fix is forthcoming - seriously considering returning the Nexus for a refund.
anonymous 11 December, 2012 18:26
It is related to the screen for me. When the screen is on, bluetooth works fine. Whenever the screen goes to sleep, it cut out every few seconds.
anonymous 12 December, 2012 16:37
im using Samsung galaxy nexus, and had once updated the software to 4.2 jellybean. Here's what i hate about the update:
1. the lockscreen has been changed - 4.1 jellybean had the 'perfect' lockscreen that i always wanted, one simple easy and quick access to 'google now' and 'camera' app. now with 4.2 jellybean, it changes THE WHOLE lockscreen interface, with that buggy clock app on main lockscreen, and HARD TO SWIPE the camera and widget app. i wish they only maintain just the same features in 4.1 JB
2. slowness of the "buttery smooth" - since the 4.2 update, its becomming slower than ever before. opening apps is slow, accessing apps from main menu is slow, and some apps are uncompactable in 4.2 JB. this is ridiculous! i cant even use the important apps now like my Navigation app. thanks google.
3. the 360 camera app sucks bigtime. The photos that i took with the app doesnt stich the pictures well, very dissapointed!.
4. battery drain - 4.2 update had my battery drain much faster than normal. if i left my phone idle (with no apps running) overnight, the battery takes 20%. to me thats a lot. even in daily usage i could get less than 6 hours of regular usage.
5. brightness bug - yes, it also happens in galaxy nexus 4.2 update, the brightness setting doesnt work in automatic mode. dissapointed!
6. long bootime when turning on- the bootime of the phone was longer i 4.2 i was sceptical whether it maybe due to the process running or something else.
After 2 weeks using 4.2 jellybean, i flashed the phone back to 4.1.2, and most of the problems were solved! Please google dont use the same ROM used in nexus 4 in galaxy nexus .
anonymous 12 December, 2012 23:47
Nexus 7 just out of the box will pair with device but not connect. Also, notification for 4.2 Jellybean update keeps popping up requesting to restart and install even though I have done this several times. Kinda maddening....can't get the notification to go away.
anonymous 13 December, 2012 01:42
I got a bluetooth keyboard...it worked great for 2 days and now won't work. Nexus says it is connected but it isn't, wish I had read this before I bought the keyboard.
anonymous 13 December, 2012 15:14
I BOUGHT THE NEXUS7 FOR ITS' BLUETOOTH ABILITY AND IT WAS GREAT.THEN THE UPDATE MADE THAT FEATURE THE WORST PART OF THE TABLET.MY QUESTION IS:DID ANYBODY THINK TO TRY OUT BLUETOOTH DURING THE UPDATE PROCESS(ENGINEERS,SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS,ETC.)FOR AT LEAST 30 SECONDS?..AND WHAT DOES THIS SAY ABOUT GOOGLES' FUTURE UPDATES.I'VE BEEN A MAC USER FOR OVER 30 YEARS AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH A BLATANT OVERSIGHT SUCH AS THIS IN THEIR PRODUCTS.THE LEAST I WOULD EXPECT IS AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF THE PROBLEM WITH A SMALL APOLOGY AND AN ASSURANCE THE PROBLEM IS BEING ADDRESSED.T.RUSSELL

After updating to 4.2, my nexus 7 can no longer find my Bluetooth keyboard.
Androidian 15 December, 2012 12:41
"After updating to 4.2, my nexus 7 can no longer find my Bluetooth keyboard."
The 4.2 upgrade changed the drivers they were using for the Bluetooth hardware. Apparently the existing Bluetooth caches were not flushed and were not compatible with the new drivers so you need to go flush the cache manually once and then re-pair your keyboard device.
Here's how:
Go to 'Settings', then in the Device section tap 'Apps'. Scroll the screen to the left and choose the 'All' group. Scroll down to 'Bluetooh Share' and tap that.
Do a 'Force stop', then tap 'Clear data' and 'Clear cache', then restart it. In addition I shut of the N7 and rebooted it.
Then go add your keyboard and pair it like you did when you first paired it.
Should be fine after that.
anonymous 15 December, 2012 16:40
Gave up with waiting for something to happen ... clearly Google looks at its loyal costumers as a bunch of idiots :(
Rolled back to 4.1.2 one week ago and got my sexy (and functional) N7 again .... !
Honestly, shame on you Google ! not only you never suggested a reasonable explanation or fix ETA but you actually never even bothered to admit the problem exist (as you did with this stupid tiny calendar bug ....)
So folks I suggest you stop wasting your time with this 4.2 fiasco !! go back to 4.1.2 until someone wakes up out there at Google.
anonymous 17 December, 2012 15:20
I upgraded my Nexus 7 as soon as I unboxed it, I haven't had application stability problems.
Audio stutter when connected to Bluetooth is horrible - Connected to a logitech UE boombox, this is the only device that has a problem, PC, Droid, Droid RAZR, Droid Bionic, IPad all are flawless - the Nexus 7... Flawed. I now have to use the audio cable to connect my two bluetooth devices - how annoying is that.
anonymous 17 December, 2012 21:28
Audio stutter bothered me. The Wiimote connection application failing only after the update really bothered me. The last straw? Bluetooth now randomly fails to initialize altogether! You tap/slide Bluetooth to the On position, and is says "On", but it's gray (still initializing.... FOREVER).
Now I suppose I'm no longer eligible to complain abnout patchy audio or less fun (arcade games via Wiimote), but moreover, now I can no longer tether via Bluetooth to my phone, the primary way I USED TO go online while on the road.phone The update to 4.2.1 has been very disappointing, and for now, I'm not recommending others to buy untill Google both acknowledges and fixee the mess they haphazardly dished out to users once happy with their purchase, now in doubt.
anonymous 18 December, 2012 15:07
My Nexus 7 worked perfectly with my bluetooth headphones before the update. It stutters intermittently now. Some days it's only annoying and recently it's to the point of unusable.
Androidian 18 December, 2012 22:53
I hate to say it but after this much time without so much as a comment, I have to conclude that Google does not give a shift about this problem and as a consequence, it's users, who suffer from the Bluetooth problems.
My advice is to go back to 4.1 (or just go away).
Personally, I have worked around my needs but if I needed what you say you need, going back or going away would be the only apparent options at this point.
Kind of sad really. They spend so much money trying to get established with tablet market share and then let it go down the crapper for trivial code related problems or even simple communication with their fan base. I'd like to be able to cheer for Google but between seeing this and what they did to their early adopters during the initial roll out in July, the message that they want to succeed with tablets, just doesn't sell at this point.
I guess automated cars are more important right now.
Apple and Microsoft must be delighted.
anonymous 19 December, 2012 21:24
I just got the Google Nexus 7 and have been very happy so far. However, this bluetooth problem is very real and I hope that you guys can pass the comments you've collected on to Google. I have a Motorola keyboard and a generic mouse which work flawlessly on my phone (Motorolla Razr M with Jelly Bean 4.1.1). I'm having a lot of trouble using them on my Nexus 7 though. It seems intermitent, sometimes the keyboard is fine, and then there'll be a long lag between when I push a key and when it registers. And then sometimes it'll hold a key down for a long time after I push it so I'll end up with something like thisssssssssssssss. It seems to vary dependdddddddddddding on which app i'm using. This needs to be fixed ASAPPPPPPP because I really wanted the keyboard and mouse on my tablet so it could be a full laptop replacccement. (I left the keyboard errors in the comment so you can see how bad this is >:(
anonymous 20 December, 2012 07:53
From what I noticed the Bluetooth audio issue only happens when the WiFi is on. Which kinda sucks being as I always use Slacker radio.
anonymous 20 December, 2012 16:39
After upgrading to Jellybean 4.2, I had problems with my Bluetooth stuttering; cutting in and out so much that you couldn't listen to anything. I called Google and they said "No one has reported that kind of problem with Bluetooth as of today." I told them to go out and read the blogs and they would see all the issues related to this; not just audio issues but pairing issues too. Anyway, the lady proceeded to tell me to clear out my cache from the apps I use the Bluetooth (Just like everyone is stating above). IT WORKED!! I couldn't believe it was that simple!! I use "History Eraser" which has a free version here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.infolife.eraser&feature=nav_result
It clears all the cach from all you apps at once. No problems since.
anonymous 21 December, 2012 00:05
The 4.2 update does indeed have fatal flaws, and the finicky Bluetooth isn't the worst of them. The update frequently causes the nexus 7 to brick itself after being asleep or powered off for an extended period of time regardless of the battery being charged or device being being plugged in. The only way to "bring it back to life" is to reset it by simultaneously holding down volume (up and down) and power button for about 30 to 40 seconds. According to several google forum posts, the same appears to be happening to phones as well.
Androidian 21 December, 2012 18:39
" I called Google and they said "No one has reported that kind of problem with Bluetooth as of today.""
That's bull crap. It's reported in the developer forums as well as emails I have personally sent so it may be so insignificant to them that they don't even bother to tell support about it but most likely they are just officially ignoring it.
Clearing the cache helped me with my keyboard but others claim that streamed services still suffer interruptions on a regular basis after doing that.
anonymous 22 December, 2012 19:53
Well for Christmas I recieved a gamepad that connects via bluetooth, it connected to myNexus 7 just fine... then came the update... Now it abolutely refuses to work regardless of what i do... very disapointed
anonymous 24 December, 2012 12:40
Also registering my complaint here (using Nexus 7). Bluetooth audio streaming stutters all the time, it's practically unusable atm. Rooting your device, to manually go back to 4.1, breaks your warranty. This is kinda sad, bug has been reported for over a month now, they could at least provide some kind of idiot proof rollback. For all of you that haven't starred the issue yet (google it), please do. It's issue 39633 and is currently labeled as 'Medium' tf?
anonymous 24 December, 2012 19:54
Yeah, had to roll back to 4.1.2 because of stuttering Bluetooth music streaming, and use Titainium to freeze the update notice. Works great. Google = 2 steps forward 1 step back. Quite disappointing since they were doing quite well with the initial rollout.
anonymous 25 December, 2012 18:48
Had a bluetooth mouse and keyboard paired and connected prior to the update. Did the update and wrapped these up for christmas presents. Now on Christmas day my kids' nice new tablet won't connect to the mouse (keyboard still works). Thanks for breaking my christmas present to my kids' Google!
anonymous 25 December, 2012 23:40
My Nexus 7 with Androidversion 4.2.1 was working fine with my Samsung Galaxy S2 and Medion soundbar. But after send about 30 pics by bluetooth from my phone it now only recognize my other accesoires but sending files by bluetooth is failing. Also is my music not streaming anymore with my soundbar.
anonymous 26 December, 2012 06:03
Why, when within the article itself, the author recognizes the these are software bugs, are the issues presented as Nexus, or hardware related? Is this honesty at it's finest, or manipulation and grandstanding?
anonymous 27 December, 2012 16:56
I updated my Galaxy S3 to Jelly Bean and lost Bluetooth in my car which was working fine before the upgrade. Verizon was nice but clueless. I notified them that I plan to switch carriers as soon as my contract expires, which is about 350 years... I guess I am screwed EXCEPT to tell new customers to stay away from Galaxy phones.
anonymous 27 December, 2012 18:03
4.2.1 is TERRIBLE. It's nothing but a catastrophy !! Forget about bluetooth functioning properly. This is pure sarcasm by the google people; they don't care at all about these problems, it's "a minor problem considering the other progress that's being made". Well, I tell you what: I am going to stop using android and tell ALL of my friends about it, if this doesn't get resolved fast !!!
anonymous 27 December, 2012 18:15
PS: I think they can't fix the bluetooth issues and just leave it like it is. Because this already is taking way too much time. I am forced now to revert to CM10 with 4.1.2 which has no bluetooth problems at all (and switch off the auto update feature, which is very nice when using CM).
I think my Galaxy Nexus is ready for the garbage bin when using the latest Android. It "looks" nice, but it doesn't work properly!
FIX IT !!!!!!
anonymous 27 December, 2012 20:16
I was experiencing extreme stuttering on my 2 day old N7 connected to Nokia BH905i headphones but I just restarted the N7 and now it's working flawlessly on a radio streaming app for an hour at least. Maybe it's a problem that gets worse the longer the device is switched on (?)
anonymous 28 December, 2012 21:05
4.2.1 here on an N7. Can pair to my phone, but not connect. Basically renders certain things completely useless and I have to say makes the N7 a much less attractive piece of kit. Pretty much think I'll ditch it.

I don't see many mentioning whether they tried the BT share cache clear described: Androidian 15 December, 2012 12:41
Did that fix your problem?
Also, does anyone know if the BT driver change added BT 4 Low Power?
anonymous 31 December, 2012 17:54
I did try the BT share cache clear described by Androdian above, but no juice. It worked at first in the beginning but the stuttering happened again. My mum has the N7 4.2.1 and I rolled mine back to 4.1.2. She doesn't need to stream music so I was testing it with her unit. I have heard numerous N7 owners are having trouble with other functionalities like difficullty with charging, wifi connection and what not, but the 2 units I have here, BT is the only problem so far. *knocks wood*

anonymous 5 January, 2013 13:51
I have the same problem.
Google Nexus 7, bought November with Jelly Bean.
Stuttering when connecting to Jawbone Jambox. I can sometimes make do a manual reconnect and have the problem solved for a little while. However, the problem is so significant that I have for the time being given up on it and won't attempt again until after an update.

anonymous 6 January, 2013 17:53
There is an easy fix! Go into setting, apps, all apps, bluetooth sharing, and force stop the program and clear the program memory and cache.
Then it will automatically turn its self on, or just turn it on manually and everything works fine! You not just need to re-pair all your bluetooth devices with the nexus 7 again. There is no flaw just the bluetooth program needs to be reset.
anonymous 7 January, 2013 03:21
Recently acquired the 32GB Nexus 7, and it was already updated to 4.2 So far, it has paired with two different keyboards very quickly, also with a Bluetooth speaker (streamed sound for a movie from Netflix without any difficulty), and also paired with my Droid RAZR M (running 4.1.1) without any hesitation. Maybe I'm just really lucky, given all the comments I've seen here.
anonymous 8 January, 2013 19:43
Just replaced my Nexus 7 (the original was purchased right when the 16GB became available in the US) with a new one - I have 4.2.1 and the issue still remains. When using Pandora or Spotify to stream music via bluetooth to my creative Zii sound or my Jawbone Jambox, it is plagued by constant stuttering. I've had this issue since I purchased the tablet with 4.1 and every update since then, fwiw.
I have a feeling google didn't provide enough bandwidth to have data coming in and going out at the same time or they don't allow the applications to create a cache large enough to buffer properly... This is quite ridiculous.
My iPhone 4, iPhone 5, Macbook Air 2011, MBA 2012, Dell Desktop, all manage to do the same job without issues so I know it's not the speakers.
Google, honestly - this is the minor stuff that shouldn't happen if you plan on competing against Amazon and Apple...
I'm recommending my friends to get an iPad or an Amazon tablet until this stuff goes away.
anonymous 8 January, 2013 23:43
Very embarrassing for Google.
Same here, with nexus10. My god what a disaster, not only is the microphone so bad, one can not use Skype, or hangout to video, voice chat, but now Bluetooth is not properly supported. I manage to listen to ted talks and stuff quite fine, but with video chat the Bluetooth just doesn't work.
Now I wish I had an iPad. Fix this soon or you'll have lost me.
Shouldn't this be a priority for Google ?

My Nexus 7 has stopped connecting to my Mac through bluetooth after it updated to 4.2 Jellybean. Just prior to the bluetooth going out the music play way was becoming spotty as well. Is there any news on a rollback or update that fixes these major bugs?
craigg577 13 January, 2013 06:05
Makes my venture away from Apple products into the land of the Nexus 7 look like a bad decision. Can't pair with my iPhone to update msecure, which is a no brainer with my wife's iPad and my macbook pro. I tried the fix listed above to no avail. Apple, it just works and I don't have to screw with stuff like this garbage.
anonymous 15 January, 2013 15:33
My Nexus 7 running 4.2 drops the wifi connection all the time. While my other devices maintain their wifi connections. Google needs to fix this ASAP or at least acknowledge the problem exists.

I really like mine (have two of them) despite the start up glitches but whatever you do, don't do any pre-orders unless you really want to blow a cerebral cortex.
I'll keep buying them. They don't have the restrictions like Apple, Amazon and Barnes and Noble and the true Android nature of the devices are the smoothest and most complete user systems of all of the Android/Linux pads. Besides, the price is right and the hardware exceptional.

I used to be able to connect to my phone as a hotspot via bluetooth, now I can't. That's a big problem, since I have an iPhone 3GS, which doesn't support acting as a wifi hotspot.
Also, 4.2.1 broke VPN! I used to be able to log into StrongVPN via IPSec with no issues. Now logging into my VPN causes a hard reboot of the OS. Big problem, since I am outside the U.S., but still want to watch Netflix...
I can't believe that Google has not fixed this yet!

I'm on a rooted galaxy s3 running android 4.2 and Bluetooth streaming is very bad now. A lot of static and quick pauses. I love my phone and bt streaming is a huge deal for me. I have a feeling it's gonna feel like forever before a fix is out.

I have a 32g Nexus 7.. My blue tooth mouse works perfectly.
anonymous 1 February, 2013 12:31
I have a32G nexus 7 (grouper), and have had issues tethering my tablet to my tmobile galaxy s2 (phone is 4.1.2 and tablet is 4.2.1 both using the Paranoid Android ROM. Instead of just blaming the newer OS version here's how I fixed if (and first his I noticed it).
First, hey wait there's a problem. Ok so I tether my tablet to my phone via Bluetooth when at work. So I noticed after my tablet was running 4.2.1 that the Bluetooth tether would randomly just stop transferring data. The icon in my status bar on the phone was blue so I thought it was good to go right. Well on tablet it kept saying no connection, so I would have to disconnect and reconnect the Bluetooth (and sometimes restart the phone). Then I thought (I know it hurts to think but hang in there) what could cause this especially on my tired tablet. The CPU needs to sleep to save battery but data takes some CPU time to move around. So I adjusted my screen off CPU settings from 740 to 860MHz. After that adjustment the problems stopped.
There are also apps that can stop the CPU sleep from happening while a Bluetooth device is in use. You can test this by setting your screen to stay on and see if you can connect Bluetooth and use it with no problems. If this is the case Bluetooth is working fine its just the skips and drops are due to the device processor not keeping up with the data Bluetooth is asking it to process.

Having got my nexus4 phone back in December had trouble connecting to my car would pair but not communicate. After many phone calls with Goole and LG .LG sent me an envelope to send the phone back to them to check out. It was away for 7 days and then returned with a note saying, they could find nothing wrong after vigorous tests, please try again if still problems would be pleased to take another look. Tried again and worked perfectly ,so they must have found something

I'm unable to listen to any internet radio broadcasts via my bluetooth headset running android version 4.2.1. ( MCE Air-Fi) according to what I just read on AndroidPolice site, the problem with A2DP and 4.2.1 will be corrected in the next release, 4.2.2.......can't come quick enough for me.

Nexus4 user. Love the feel and dynamics of the handset. WiFi only works intermittently, and when it does Bluetooth doesn't. And now, vice-versa. WiFi working and Bluetooth won't switch on. Sort it, Google.

I have been trying unsuccessfully to transfer images btwn nexus 7 and windows xp laptop that has bluetooth.. Nexus 7 has android 4.2.1 and file will not transfer either way. laptop is paired with nexus 7. When I try to connect it says it is connected for a split second and then reverts to disconnected..

Just got nexus, took five minutes to set up the way I want. iPad took about a week and still has "issues".
If you never had apple kit before the don't go to them because you think android broke Bluetooth implementation.
Only way to get reasonable BT on apple is jailbreak it!

Just read something that indicated that Google has started a 4.2.2 rollout on a limited basis for some phones so hopefully we will soon be getting ours.

Getting my 4.2.2 install from Google on my Nexus 7 as we speak. Yay!!!
Wife's 8 gig N7 install hasn't downloaded to hers yet.

4.2.2 broke my ability to use the audio out on my N7 Dock. Before the update whenever I placed it in the dock it asked if I wanted to send audio through the dock, now that doen't happen. Under sound settings Dock is greyed out.

Some of the security changes (intentional) rendered AdBlock Plus unable to automatically set up a proxy to do it's thing. The fix is something you have to do once per wireless connection you connect to. Not each time you start up, just one time like when you add the security key to connect with a wireless access point.
It says it's for a Samsung Galaxy S3 but it works perfectly for the Nexus 7 as well.
Once you get the necessary entries made and saved, be sure to stop and start wireless in the Settings for wireless. No problem after that.

Nexus 4 running 4.2.2
The after seconds of any bluetooth device being active wifi drops out.
sometimes when wifi is already on bluetooth refuses to switch on. any chance of Cnet reaching out to Google for a response seeing as they never respond to us mere mortals?

Broken bluetooth to mobile phone connection: Nexus 7 running 4.2.2 - when I Bluetooth to my phone it connects then immediately drops the connection.

Successfully using my Nexus 7 (Android 4.2.2) with Motorola S9-HD earphones.

Very-Very unhappy woth my nexus7 3G and bluetooth SPP profile. I cannot connect to a bluetooth enabled MCU using SPP profile. The connection works great with devices using 4.1 android

Bluetooth whine on galaxy nexus after 4.2 update, VERY annoying when bluetooth is my only source of music. Google, fix!!
anonymous 6 April, 2013 02:16
Thanks to comments above I fixed my Bluetooth problem. It would not even turn on so I went into settings-apps-all-bluetooth share and then tapped on force stop and then cleared the cache. It worked and my Nexus 7 has Bluetooth again.

April 6, 2013! I have my Nexus 10 connected to a Logitech Moue and Keyboard and once they are paired, they seem to work OK. I also was able to pair them to my daughters Nexus 7. I was trying to pair another BT Keyboard and Mouse to that device, but they paired once, but the Nexus 7 forgot the pairing, and didn't recognize the Keyboard and Mouse later. I personally think that they have a serious BT problem on all of the Nexus products. I have 4.2.2 on both of them, and that seems to work. BT seems to be problematical and hopefully they will work on that problem. After seeing the kinds of BT problems I have had, I would have likely bought a Samsung Tablet rather than the Nexus device since BT seems to work better with that device. Google keeps shooting themselves in the foot with these kind of problems. I don't consider it to be a stable product and wish that I had gone with Samsung on all of my devices. If I need to purchase another tablet in the future, it will be a Samsung.

Nexus 7 8 gig. Only bluetooth is messed up for me, but not as bad as others it seems. I can't use tablet remote anymore, but I can still tether to my droid x with open garden even though it says 'paired but not connected' in settings. Chrome is actually more stable and no other apps or system functions are bugging.
anonymous 27 April, 2013 19:54
I am running 4.2.2 and I can no longer turn on my Bluetooth. It is as if the switch is broken.
anonymous 30 April, 2013 16:52
I got the S4 and despite multiple attempts I couldn't get the car Bluetooth to see phone book or call log. That wasn't a problem on the Note with 2.3.5 OS. Any solution, or should I sell that piece of crap (the S4)
