Calling all citizen journalists: Sky News gets iPhone app

Software

Sky News has launched a free application to access news and video content on your iPhone. The app lists popular and breaking articles in UK news, sport, business, world news, showbiz and strangeness, as pictured left.

These are accessed via a nifty horizontally sliding tab bar. You can also watch videos about news, showbiz or weather, pictured middle. There's a whole section to set up paid SMS alerts -- which seems rather pointless when this very app gives you the news for free -- but they've got to try and inveigle some cash out of you someways.

The other notable feature of the app, pictured right, makes it easy to submit some news, you citizen journalist you. Simply fill out your location and contact details, along with some comments on the news and a picture, and off it goes to Sky.

The Sky News application is currently free at Apple's UK & Ireland iTunes store, so snap it up now before Rupert Murdoch starts charging or figures out how to get ads in there. No word yet on whether the app will improve Sky's subtitles.
