Spotify open for registration in the UK: No invite needed

If you've been waiting for an invite to join Spotify, the wait is over. As long as you live in the UK, that is. The free music streaming company is now opening registrations for anyone in Britain, without the need for an invite.

We've reported about Spotify a great deal over the last few weeks, and adore the service here at CNET UK. And our forums have been inundated with readers desperate to get their hands on one of our invites.

For anyone who's unaware, Spotify is an ad-supported streaming music service that lets you listen to as much music as you want, for absolutely no cost as long as you don't mind hearing the occasional ad. Or, if you'd rather, you can pay a small subscription and get the whole service ad-free.

In an official blog post, Spotify said it wants "to make sure that everyone who uses Spotify gets the same fast, uninterrupted experience, so providing a stable service is our priority. If growth happens too fast and it starts affecting quality, we may have to reinstate the invitation system. Hopefully this won't happen". This also explains why it's being rolled out country by country.

Spotify is one of the best music services on the planet (along with our own Last.fm, of course), and one of the most exciting, most promising services of its type that we've ever seen. So, if you're in the UK, get over to the Spotify Web site and sign up.
