BBC iPlayer reaches for the Sky

Software

BBC iPlayer is now accessible via BSkyB's online TV service, Sky Player.

Sky Player now has several BBC-branded sections that include programme listings and links to iPlayer content, which redirect users to the BBC's media player after they select the programme they want to view.

Sky Player offers channels from several broadcasters including National Geographic, The History Channel and ESPN Classic, alongside various Sky channels.

The Sky partnership is the latest move in the BBC's strategy to take the iPlayer service to new audiences.

After initially only being available as a download service on Windows XP, iPlayer is now available on Mac and Linux as a streaming service with a download version also in the pipeline.

iPlayer is also available on Virgin Media, Apple's iPod and iPhone, the Nintendo Wii, Nokia's N96 smart phone and a range of other portable devices. -Tim Ferguson
