Canon has perked up its Pixma range of inkjets, adding six new printers and five new multifunctional devices. If you're the proud owner of some of the 100 billion digital photographs taken last year, it's time to get them off your hard drive and onto your wall.
The new printers start with the entry-level iP1600 and iP2200, four-colour inkjets that can produce borderless 100x150mm prints in around 70 and 55 seconds respectively. As you move up through the range, which also includes the iP4200, iP5200 and iP5200R, you get more colours, faster print speeds and additional features such as support for wired and wireless networks.
The top-of-the-range printer, the iP6600D, is a six-colour inkjet that can produce a borderless 10x15cm print in around 46 seconds. It prints directly from memory cards, PictBridge-compliant cameras and mobile phones (using infrared or an optional Bluetooth adaptor). An 89mm LCD enables you to preview your images and apply basic image corrections, such as red-eye removal. Who needs a computer, eh?
The multifunctional devices enable you to scan and copy as well as print. They start with the MP150 and MP170, then range upwards through the MP450 and MP500, finishing with the all-singing MP800. Like the printers, they're differentiated by the number of inks, the speed of printing and the addition of memory card slots, colour LCDs and suchlike. The MP800 also comes with an adaptor unit for scanning 35mm film. Watch out for a full review when we've printed all of the 2,000-plus photos we've taken in the last month. -ML
