Crave Podcast 97: Windows is dead!

Crave Podcast 97: Windows is dead!

We're 97 episodes deep, podcast fans! Rory Reid's in charge again, alongside his Man Friday Ian Morris, his Woman Thursday Kate Macefield, and some random Aussie called Luke Anderson.

Actually, Luke works for GameSpot UK -- the finest gaming Web site in the world -- so we're delighted to have him on board. In this episode, he'll help us out with issues like the imminent death of Microsoft Windows. Yes, we said death. Apparently Microsoft will replace the long-running OS with a smaller, more flexible platform called Midori.

Next, we tell you how mad scientists are using accelerometers inside laptops to detect impending earthquakes, reveal the truth behind the six degrees of separation theory, how Verizon loves to start fires -- literally -- and how cars will soon be able to talk to each other.

It being episode 97, we thought we'd take a look at the year 1997 for our Year in Tech feature. Remember it? 1997 saw the first test flight of the F-22 Raptor, and the first supersonic land speed record set by the British ThrustSSC team. Nintendo's Pokemon cartoon caused 685 children to suffer epileptic seizures, GoldenEye 007 was released, as was GTA and Gran Turismo for the PS1.

This week's WTF is about a nefarious pervert who installed PC hijacking software on a hapless female's laptop so he could take covert pictures of her as she wandered around her home. Nasty.

Right click this bad boy to download the 'cast straight to your PC, or do it properly and subscribe in iTubes. Then visit the CPL forum to discuss the show with like-minded listeners. It's only right. -Rory Reid
