Thank goodness for small mercies -- Rupert Goodwins has been found alive and well. His three-week absence prompted many to believe he'd hired a canoe, staged his own death and cashed in on his CNET life assurance policy. Turns out he'd simply got lost on the way home from the pub one evening and ended up in China.

But he's back in podland to judge The Trial, which this week concerns open-source anti-virus applications. Prosecutor Rory Reid says they're about as useful as a life raft made of cheesecake, but Nate 'Firefox' Lanxon is on hand for the defence. He says they're free, effective and maintained by his best friends -- the geeks.

The team also find time to dissect this week's news, which includes word of a tiny wearable camera that aids memory loss. You stick it on your belt, it takes pictures every 30 seconds, and you review the crotch-borne footage to offset the onset of Alzheimer's. Genius.
