CNET UK Podcast 268: Goodbye 2011, hello 2012

CNET UK Podcast 268: Goodbye 2011, hello 2012

Deck the halls with boughs of holly, it's the Christmas podcast! From Apple and Samsung to ultrabooks and Beats headphones, what's changed our lives in 2011 -- and what's set to rock our world in 2012.

Amie makes her podcast debut this week alongside Rich and Jason as we reminisce by the podcast studio fire, warming our cockles with thoughts of the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S, the Samsung Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Nexus, the Nokia Lumia 800 and all the other great gadgets that came out this year. And we consider the impact of the year's patent warfare, celebrity endorsements and the revolutionary role of social media.

We ask whether Siri and TiVo have changed our lives, and exalt one gadget that literally came from the future: the Nike Air Mag shoes from Back to the Future.

And we look back at the most popular stories you've been reading in droves this year, which it turns out are about things that don't even exist: the iPhone 5, and a time-traveller arriving at the Large Hadron Collider -- a story that has even inspired a band. Funny old world, innit.

But the world of technology stands still for no-one, and we're already getting hot under the collar about a smorgasbord of new tech coming in 2012. We're heading for Las Vegas in January to gadget bunfight CES.

We predict the year will be dominated by Windows 8, ultrabooks, and yet more tablets. Then there's the Amazon Kindle Fire, the Asus Transformer Prime -- and perhaps the mythical iPhone 5 and iPad 3?

What were your highlights of 2011 -- and what are you excited about in 2012? Tell us in the comments or on our Facebook page. And a very merry Christmas one and all!
