Asus Designo MS236: Fancy ring monitor
Monitors

Remember the 'Fantasy Ring' series of monitors from LG? You know, the ones with the base shaped like a doughnut. Yeah? Good, because Asus, of Eee PC fame, has pounced on the concept to create its own circular-standed monitors, the Designo MS series.

We've just got our hands on the 23-inch MS236 and it's not bad at all. Whereas LG's ring hangs out the bottom, Asus' ring is mounted in a perpendicular fashion at its rear. This allows the monitors to be carried like a handbag, worn on the head like a slightly ill-fitting sweatband, or used as a shield in a game of Monitor Punch.

T.27: World's most efficient electric car? Photo Gallery

T.27: World's most efficient electric car?
Car Tech

Good news, nature-fondlers: Gordon Murray -- the designer responsible for such supercars as the McLaren F1 and Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, has teamed up with Zytek Automotive Design to help develop the T.27 -- the world's most fuel-efficient electric vehicle.

A total of four prototypes will be built before the project's February 2011 deadline. It would seem the T.27 is based on Murray's hideous petrol-powered T.25 (did this guy really design the McLaren F1?), so there's a good chance the T.27 could also end up being the world's ugliest vehicle -- electric or otherwise. Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 hands-on photos: Hello, Rachel
Mobile Phones

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will always be called the Rachel in our hearts, but we're willing to forgive its sterile name -- because this is a beautiful phone that could combine the media skillz of Son Eric with the smart-phone power of Google Android.

Like the Acer Liquid, the X10 has a powerful 1GHz Snapdragon processor inside, which should make this one of the fastest Android phones yet, although the prototype we tried wasn't polished enough for us to tell. Continue reading...

LaCie Starck hard drive: Starck stores le stuff
Accessories

Design guru Philippe Starck has fulfilled what was no doubt a lifelong ambition by adding the hard drive to his portfolio. LaCie makes a mobile version or a higher-capacity desktop version of Starck storage.

Each of the two drives is wrapped in a 2mm aluminium shell. Inside this oddly textured metal skin is a fluidly curved chrome housing. Continue reading...

MIT Affective Intelligent Driving Agent: Robotic backseat driver
Car Tech

Researchers at MIT are in the process of developing the Affective Intelligent Driving Agent, an in-car robot with an intelligent navigation system.

AIDA can identify the best route between your commonly visited destinations, taking into account environmental factors, like traffic, and your habits, such as popping out for a biryani on Thursdays. It can also give feedback on your driving, and responds to your facial expressions with its emotive 'eyes'.

Parrot Zikmu speakers: Ears-on photos
Accessories

Renowned product designer Philippe Starck is at it again. The man behind the Microsoft Optical Mouse, various Fossil watches and the Virgin Galactic 'spaceport' -- from which SpaceShipOne will launch guinea pigs space tourists into orbit -- may have just outdone himself with a set of wireless speakers for Parrot.

Admittedly, we don't know much about design, but we reckon the Zikmu speakers, pictured above and in our photo gallery, are gorgeous. They're so gorgeous, in fact, that we'd contemplate undergoing some sort of human-to-speaker species change just so we could dry hump them legally. Continue reading...

Google Maps Navigation brings sat-nav to Android phones
Mobile Phones

If it wasn't for Google Maps, we'd be more lost than the Treasure of the Sierra Madre. Now we bow to our googly overlords yet again with the announcement of Google Maps Navigation for the next version of Android, 2.0.

Yep, it's Google sat-nav for your Android phone, and it looks pretty mind-blowing -- and unlike existing sat-navs, this bad boy is free like lunch isn't. Continue reading...

Samsung M1 enters the ring with Vodafone 360: Hands-on photos
Mobile Phones

The Samsung M1 -- also known as the Vodafone M1 360 -- is the cheapskates' choice if you want to get stuck into Vodafone 360.

The M1 is the little brother of the Samsung H1, also called the Vodafone H1 360. Samsung has cut the cost of the M1 by giving it an 81mm touchscreen, slightly smaller than the H1. It's not an OLED screen either, so it's not as bright and vivid. Continue reading...

Mobile Phones

The Sony Ericsson's Xperia X2 is a phone for the suits, thanks to its Windows Mobile operating system, but with a little dash of Sony Eric's mastery of media.

The follow-up to the Xperia X1 garnishes WinMo's support for your Outlook email with an 8.1-megapixel camera and Son Eric's fabulous audio quality through a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Continue reading...

BlackBerry Bold 9700: Hands-on photos with the slimmed-down SuperBerry
Mobile Phones

The BlackBerry Bold 9700 is a lean, mean, BlackBerrying machine, and today we got our hands on RIM's new top-of-the-range phone.

The Bold 9700 feels much smaller and lighter than its predecessor, the BlackBerry Bold 9000, but it has all the smart-phone powers that made the Bold 9000 a hit. It's also bagged itself some upgrades -- such as a faster processor and more RAM. Continue reading...
