The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is finally here. Click through the images above to see the official pictures of the hotly anticipated new flagship Android phone -- previously known as the Nexus Prime -- introducing Ice Cream Sandwich and spoiling for a fight with the iPhone 4S.
The Nexus Prime throws down the gauntlet with one heck of a screen. It's a giant 4.65-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen, with a 100,000:1 contrast ratio and high definition 720x1,280-pixel resolution. That sounds perfect for dazzlingly sharp movies, videos and games. Continue reading...
Siri on iPhone 4S: What can it do?
Siri is the robotic assistant that lives inside the iPhone 4S. This AI automaton, summoned by holding the iPhone 4S' home button, exists only to serve you, following voice-issued orders and occasionally dishing out helpings of snark.
So are we finally living in the robot-filled future? Or is this bionic butler just another failed experiment in voice control? Let's take a look at what Siri can do, and a few things it can't. Continue reading...
iPhone 4S vs iPhone 4 camera test
The iPhone 4S might look the same as the iPhone 4, but looks can be deceiving -- there's some potent new chunks of tech hidden inside its unassuming casing, and one of those shiny new components is an 8-megapixel camera.
Apple is making a big fuss of the new snapper inside the 4S, touting face detection, backside illumination (arf!), f2.4 aperture, the ability to capture snaps at a 3,264x2,448-pixel resolution and 1080p video recording as reasons to upgrade. Continue reading...
65-storey 'Earthscraper' concept digs deep into Mexico City
An astonishing new building concept will tunnel 65 storeys below the centre of Mexico City.
Mexico City laws prevent buildings being built that are more than eight storeys high in order to preserve the historic skyline. The building concept -- dubbed the 'Earthscraper' by Mexican architecture firm BNKR Arquitectura -- aims to get around such pesky rules by tunneling straight down in an upside-down pyramid shape. Two bouquets of roses had been left near the front doors of Apple's Covent Garden store. There was no card, but the couple who had left them explained to us they had been long-time fans of Apple's products and great admirers of Jobs. Continue reading...

Apple Cards app for iPhone 4S hands-on photos
This is a bit of a strange one -- Apple is getting into the birthday and holiday card business. Yep, you heard us right -- cards. On 12 October, you'll be able to download a new app for your iPhone called, you guessed it, Cards.
The app will take pictures you've taken or stored on your iPhone and create a physical card you can customise, which is then sent to an address -- it's like using Moonpig, basically, but on your phone. Continue reading...
History of the iPhone in pictures
The new iPhone is here. The iPhone 4S is the next generation of Apple mobile phone, so let's look back at the history of the gadget that ushered in the age of the smart phone.
We first met the iPhone in January 2007, when then-Apple boss Steve Jobs took to the stage and announced a new "widescreen, touch-controlled iPod, a revolutionary mobile phone, and a breakthrough Internet communications device". But they were not three devices, they were one: the iPhone. Continue reading...
iPhone 4S, Siri, iMessage and more hands-on photos
We've just spent some time with Apple's new iPhone 4S, and the good news is it's shaping up to be a great phone. Anyone hoping for a major redesign is going to be cruelly disappointed -- it looks identical to last year's model, the iPhone 4 -- but that doesn't make it any less of a good mobile.
The standout feature is Siri, Apple's take on voice recognition. This isn't the voice recognition you might be used to, the type where you say "call Jason" and it rings whoever is associated with that contact. What's clever about it is that you can give it relatively complex commands, such as "Convert £50 to dollars", or "Do I need an umbrella today?" Siri will interpret your commands and use Internet services such as Wolfram Alpha to figure out the most appropriate response. Continue reading...

Apple has just finished telling us all about its new revision of the iPod touch, so we thought we'd do the only good thing and show you all the shiny official pictures.
The new iPod touch may not look any different to the previous version, but it's what's underneath the covers that counts. It's running iOS 5 -- the latest version of Apple's mobile operating system that brings over-the-air updates, advanced camera features and a handy notification centre to easily see new messages and app alerts. Continue reading...
iPhone 4S looks same as iPhone 4 in official pics
The iPhone 4S is finally official, and it's, er, almost exactly the same as the iPhone 4. Still, a new iPhone is not to be sniffed at, and while it may look just like its predecessor it has a few nifty features running under the bonnet. Click through the images above to ogle the 4S from every angle, and learn more about the new hardware and software on board.
The iPhone 4S has the same casing as the iPhone 4, but the hardware isn't identical all the way down. There's a new processor mixing things up in the form of Apple's dual-core A5 chip, which Apple thinks will make the iPhone 4S run graphics seven times faster than the iPhone 4 did. Continue reading...
Land Rover TESSA uses exhaust heat to warm your home
Buying a massive Land Rover hasn't historically been the best way to reduce your cost of living -- until now, perhaps.
Engineers at Atmos Heating Systems have teamed up with Land Rover to create a prototype Freelander that can power the central heating and hot water supplies in your house using heat extracted from the car's exhaust. Continue reading...
Inside Google's London Chrome Zone Chromebook shop
Google's bursting out of your computer screen, shoving you off your chair before running off down the road to install itself in a shop. Specifically, the 'Chrome Zone' section of PC World on London's Tottenham Court Road, where punters can now get a hands-on look at Google's Chromebooks.
We took a brisk constitutional down to the Chrome Zone to check it out -- click through our photos above to ogle affairs from the comfort of your seat. Continue reading...
New Fiat Panda has pull-out TomTom Live sat-nav
The Fiat Panda has rarely been a car to set people's pulses racing -- quite the contrary in fact. We'd guesstimate the boxy little runabout has been involved in a disproportionately high number of accidents where its drivers have dozed off from sheer boredom.
Luckily there's a new Panda approaching and this time it's been festooned with a bunch of snazzy new tech that'll have you bouncing off the walls with excitement. Continue reading...
New Jensen Interceptor is bringing the 60s back
The Jensen Interceptor, the car with the coolest name in the history of cool names, is set to make a comeback.
A new version of the car, which featured heavily in iconic 60s and 70s TV series such as The Sweeney and The Professionals (and other shows where moustaches and flares were crucial) will hit UK streets in 2014. Continue reading...

Nikon has waded into the lens-swapping game with the new Nikon 1 system. Two new cameras, the Nikon 1 V1 and Nikon 1 J1, throw out the traditional camera rulebook for a new system of interchangeable lenses.
Nikon 1 is the name of the new lens format, and the J1 and V1 are the first in the range. They're compact cameras that do away with the moving mirror found in a traditional dSLR, giving you the ability to swap lenses like a dSLR but in a much smaller body. Continue reading...

Denso Resonance sat-nav steers to best deals on Twitter
It seems nothing is safe from the often mindless, but occasionally quite useful stream of consciousness that is Twitter. First the social network invaded our computers, then our smart phones -- and in a few years Denso wants it to hop into our cars.
The Japanese electronics firm has developed a simulator that previews its Resonance 2021 information, entertainment and guidance technology. This enables drivers to receive tweets based on events or services occurring in their local area and plots them on its sat-nav. Continue reading...
