Sony's new TV interface tested in hands-on photos
Sony invited me into its Tokyo HQ to give CNET UK a sneak preview of the new features that will be making their way onto its 2012 line-up of TVs, and they look pretty nifty to me.
One of the problems with the menus used on last year's models was that they didn't make it particularly easy to access apps and Internet video services. The new interface improves things massively in this area. Continue reading...
iPad 3 in pictures: Our favourite concept designs
The iPad 3 is rocketing its way towards us, it seems, ready to provide us with all the swiping action we could want. But what might it look like? We've collated the wisdom of the Internet hive mind and put together a bunch of our favourite concept designs for your viewing delight.
Nearly a year on from the iPad 2 launch and with the sequel surely just around the corner, everyone with an ounce of skill with a graphics programme is busy concocting pictures of what they think the new slate will be like. Continue reading...
White Nokia Lumia 800 looks chilly in official photo gallery
The snow is still settling, so it would be easy to miss a flurry of white phones arriving today too. Samsung has already outed a white Galaxy Nexus, and now along comes Nokia with its colourless version of the Lumia 800.
The chilly white Lumia 800 will be available later this month. Apart from the icy casing -- which is gloss rather than matte, meaning it may prove a slippery customer -- it's the same beast as the 800 we've seen in other colours. So you get the same Windows Phone software, same 3.7-inch AMOLED ClearBlack curved display, and the same 1.4GHz processor. Continue reading...
Samsung Galaxy S Advance strides forth in official pics
The Samsung Galaxy S Advance is official -- click through the pics above to ogle this 4-inch budget Android blower from every which way.
The advantageous Advance S plays host to a dual-core processor, and if you take a look at the 4-inch screen you'll notice it's slightly curved. Neat! Continue reading...
VW E-Bugster concept gallery shows off electric Beetle
Volkswagen Beetles have traditionally run on 'flower power', and by that we mean the carbon-belching, fossilised remains of plants that have been dead for millenia.
That tradition may soon come to an end, however, thanks to the new E-Bugster concept -- an all-electric version of the VW Beetle that runs on the stuff that comes out of your mains socket at home. Continue reading...
New Bus for London: Your New Routemaster questions answered
It's 2012 and, providing the world doesn't end in a cataclysmic fireball, Britain's capital will soon be teeming with an updated, high-tech version of the Routemaster bus, known as the New Bus for London or NBfL.
It's a rubbish name, but an awesome piece of kit, we think you'll agree. But to many, it's shrouded in mystery. That's why we figured we'd take a break from stockpiling canned goods to answer some of the most pertinent questions about the NBfL. Continue reading...
How practical is the Ferrari California?
Supercars aren't the most practical vehicles in the world. Anyone who's ever driven one will know they're about as useful as a ham sandwich at a Bar Mitzvah unless you're hooning around a track.
Ferrari has wholeheartedly embraced this trend of unrelenting inflexibility, but there's one model that looks set to change all that. The California, the prancing horse claims, offers typical Ferrari performance without compromising everyday usability. To test this claim, we hopped into the hardtop convertible for a few days to put it through its paces as an everyday runabout. Continue reading...
Mercedes G-Class, Sprinter 4x4, Unimog, Zetros off-road test
We know a thing or two about off-road vehicles. Or at least we thought we did, until Mercedes-Benz invited us to Milbrook Proving ground in Milton Keynes to have a go in some of its most terrifying capable all-terrain vehicles.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by a Mercedes-Benz G-Class, a Sprinter 4x4 and two beasts we never dreamed anyone would be foolish enough to let us have a go in -- the gigantic Unimog and the horrifying wheeled spectre of doom that is the Zetros. Needless to say, we took great pleasure in hooning around in all four, and we took some pictures of our adventures to share the experience. You're welcome. Continue reading...

The tech that will power the 2012 Olympics in pictures
Pub quiz fact: keeping the 2012 Olympic Games in London going next year will take an astonishing 12,600 computers, 900 servers and over 350 support staff. That's according to Acer, which has just given CNET UK a behind the scenes tour of its IT facilities for next year's games.
Acer is one of the top-tier Olympic sponsors for London 2012 -- another way of saying it has paid an awful lot of money. As part of the sponsorship deal it has the mammoth task of providing the computery tech that runs the whole operation, from the PCs the athletes will check their emails on to the touchscreen systems that give TV commentators live results. Porsche Panamera GTS promises pure driving kicks
Porsche absolutely loves building new versions of its Panamera. There are now a whopping nine iterations of its bonkers four-door supercar, the latest of which is a new driver-oriented GTS model.
Porsche says the GTS is the 'purest' member of the Panamera family. It has most in common with the mid-range Panamera 4S, but features upgraded brakes, lowered suspension and a V8 engine that delivers more power than any non-turbocharged Panamera. Continue reading...
Sky+ HD designer boxes shown off in picture gallery
Sky+ HD is a rather neat invention, but goodness those grey boxes look drab. Give your living room the sprucing up it needs by chucking your boring old box away and opting for one of these designer models.
Click through the photos above to ogle the limited edition boxes in all their colourful glory. One of them has a dinosaur on it, honest. Continue reading...
Jaguar XKR-S Convertible pics show off powerful drop-top Jag
Looks like summer has come early for sun-loving Jaguar fans. The legendary British marque has clawed the roof off its XKR-S to create what it promises is its most powerful drop-top ever.
The soft top, we think you'll agree, adds an extra layer of sexiness to a car that was already pretty gorgeous. It opens and folds away in 18 seconds, which is just quick enough to help prevent a soaking during sudden downpours, but just slow enough to attract the jealous ire of passersby. Continue reading...
Ford Fiesta ST Concept is a rally-inspired cutie
We've always had a soft spot for souped-up Ford Fiestas. Our love affair started back in the early 80s with the XR2, reached fever pitch with the fuel-injected XR2i and sort of fizzled out with the slightly underwhelming 2008 Fiesta ST.
Sadly, we've not had much to shout about in the years since those rusted away, but Ford may be about to ignite that old flame with a new Fiesta ST concept, which has been doing the rounds at the 2011 LA Autoshow. Continue reading...
Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime shown off in official photos
Far removed from the low-power single core chips of early tablets, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime packs a whopping quad-core processor running at a nippy 1.3GHz. It should chomp through the most demanding of tasks with a slobbering snarl and a look that says "come at me, bro".
There's even a fifth core in there, running at lower power, which it'll switch to for less demanding work. That should hopefully mean its battery power can be used more efficiently. Continue reading...
Jaguar XJ Speed and Sport upgrade top speed to 174mph
There aren't many ways to improve a Jaguar XJ. It's beautiful, fabulous to drive and -- in the case of the Supersport version -- even has a purple velvet glove box. What more do you want?
Oh, you wish it was faster, more aggressive-looking and had a better interior? Well you just so happen to be in luck, thanks to Jaguar's new Sport and Speed upgrade packs. Continue reading...
Steve Jobs-themed cake shop to open in London
If there's a self-respecting geek out there who doesn't anticipate a sugary baked treat as strongly as the latest gadget fix, we've yet to meet them.
A Steve Jobs-inspired pop-up bakery, called Megabites, is to open for one day only on Wednesday 9 November, selling Apple-themed cakes and cookies. Alas, this sweet venture comes one day early for CNET UK, where we religiously pay homage to Cake Thursday every week. Continue reading...
