Here's the music video clips screen -- it's as pretty as the rest. The box can play any video file in the MPEG4 or H.264 format, but not DivX, which is a bit of a shame. Remember, though, that this is really designed to be used with video bought from Apple's world rather than the dodgy copies you can find on the Internet.

Is apple tv really going to take off over here with such limited content on the apple sotre? (i.e unlike the americans who have access to tv shows albeit in slightly lower res than dvd)

I doubt it'll take over because of its price, but deals are being discussed for TV content to become available on the iTunes Store. Don't expect anything soon though!
