Robot suits: not able to kill yet

Accessories

We enjoyed Sigourney Weaver wearing a twenty-foot-tall robot suit in Aliens, but we didn't think: "There’s the solution to my commuting needs..." Engineers at Toyota obviously did. Meet the i-foot -- a mountable, walking robot capable of navigating stairs. Toyota is exhibiting the i-foot and a range of other wearable robots this Friday at the 2005 World Expo in Aichi, Japan.

The i-foot cocoons its passenger in an egg-shaped compartment that balances on dainty ostrich legs. Capable of speeds up to 1 mph, a real ostrich would easily outrun you if you challenged it to a race, and an Alien would rip you to shreds before you’d even taken a step towards the airlock. Toyota may not have built the ultimate fighting machine, but we’d still love to see two i-foots duelling like overweight toddlers.
