BenQ G 2400W: Who's bad?

It has to be said: BenQ has made some of the baddest monitors in the business. That's 'bad' in the Michael Jackson, 'Hee Hee! Shamon mother******!' sense of the word.

The latest addition to its crotch-grabbingly desirable portfolio is the BenQ G2400W. It's available in black or silver but we'll ignore Jacko's calls for colour equality and say we prefer the black one. It's stealthy but sexy and does away with all the superfluous shiny aluminium detailing that's so prevalent in modern consumer tech. The slim bezel makes the 24-inch panel appear even larger than it actually is. It's only let down by the rudimentary base section, which doesn't allow height adjustment or pivoting.

The specs aren't worth sliding backwards on your toes over. It has a 5ms response time, 250cd/m2 brightness, 160/160-degree viewing angle and a 1,000:1 contrast ratio. In this day and age, if a monitor isn't responding as quickly as 2ms and churning out 4,000:1 contrast, we don't really want to know.

Thankfully, despite its potential shortcomings, the G2400W is a very good screen. The image quality and colour reproduction are of a high standard, and it's equally at home when showing still images or fast-moving films and games. Plus, you really can't ignore that monster 1,920x1,200-pixel resolution -- it's better than 'Full HD'.
