HP W2408h: 24 inches of monitory goodness

24 is a magic figure. It's the number of hours in a day, it's the minimum number of inches a rapper's wheels should be, and it's the ideal size for a TFT monitor. That, believe it or not*, is precisely the logic that drove HP to create the W2408h.

Here are our observations: it's wicked. You really can't argue with the amount of inchage on offer, nor can you diss the 1,920x1,200-pixel resolution. In fact, it's hard to do anything other than praise this thing. We've tested it and we think the image quality is excellent, plus it's highly adjustable: the stand lets you swivel the screen into portrait mode as well as adjust the height and vertical tilt.

Specs-wise, we're looking at a 5ms response time, 400 cd/m2 brightness, 3,000:1 dynamic contrast (1,000:1 static), 160-degree horizontal and vertical viewing angle, HDMI and D-Sub inputs with cables supplied, and a 92 per cent colour gamut.

All this combines to make a very good monitor. The only thing that lets it down is the fact the screen is so glossy and reflective. Honestly, it's like looking into a mirror sometimes. Don't bother placing it directly opposite a window -- all you'll see is your own, slightly annoyed reflection. Prices start from £299. -Rory Reid
