Just days before the Galaxy S3 is officially unveiled comes word that the Android device will be making the jump to Windows Phone soon.
According to Windows Phone Life, Samsung will use the Galaxy S3 as the basis for its first Windows Phone 8 device. So while the phone will have the same design and specs as the S3, it'll be dubbed the Samsung Focus S2. Sounds a bit like a car to me, but still, if it's anywhere near as good as the S3 promises to be, it should be a great handset.
A source says that because of the changes to the Windows Phone 8 OS, Samsung will be able to use the S3's faster processor, bigger and higher resolution screen, as well as LTE (although that last one's not much use to us Brits). Because of the new Windows Phone OS, swapping the specs into a Windows device should be "easy as pie" according to the source.
The specs the source revealed include a 4.7-inch HD screen, 12-megapixel camera, NFC, a dedicated camera button, and support for Samsung's cloud storage service and LTE. These do differ though from the manual that leaked earlier this week (8-megapixel camera and 4.8-inch screen, among the differences). I suppose we'll have to wait until Wednesday's official reveal to see just how much this source actually knows.
The Focus S2 is expected this October, according to the source. Another Samsung phone, the Focus S is pretty much a ported Galaxy S2, so it wouldn't be that surprising to see the S3 being used as the basis for a Windows Phone handset. And it's generated enough buzz on the web, so it would make sense to capitalise.
Would you buy a Windows Phone version of the Galaxy S3? Do you think Focus is a good name for a phone? And what are you expecting from Wednesday's announcement? Let me know in the comments below, or over on Facebook.

That would be nice (though Nokia would disagree), but 4.7" is just too big for me...

I don't give a damn, as long as it hits Verizon in the US with quad or dual a15.

I'm sorry but that might be dumb and seriously piss off a lot of people especially because windows phone 8 has been projected for the latter half of 2012 and we currently are in the first half of the year. It makes no sense to do this honestly.

I am very happy with android but I plan to get a new laptop with Windows 8 in the next 12 months. I think a powerful windows mobile phone would be an absolute winner... with one proviso. If Microsoft get greedy and play silly games with their marketing strategy, like they did on Vista and Windows 7, then I will stick with android. I have no intention of paying twice for the same programs or buying basic features as 'upgrades' as extortionate prices.
In other words, I would be keen to buy into the Windows 'ecosystem' so long as Microsoft don't fill it with tiered gated communities that have to be bought into.

If this existed I would get one instantly. I love the look of the metro UI and windows phone in general, but so far no particular phone running it has appealed to me. This would be a great combination of hardware and software.

I had the original Samsung Focus and now the HTC Titan. I like the screen size of the Titan and the screen quality of the Focus. So getting the best of both in the new Samsung Apollo device is a dream.
However I do not like the name. They should change it from Focus S2 to Nebula.
