Windows Phone 8 availability: Who's selling the first phones?

So you want to buy a Windows Phone 8 smart phone, eh? Bold manoeuvre. But first you'll need to know which networks are flogging which mobiles.

Here's what we know so far, we'll be updating this story if we learn anything more.

Nokia Lumia 920

Likely to steal headlines, this is Nokia's flagship mobile and it comes with a 4.5-inch, 768x1,280 pixel display, a dual-core processor and a camera stuffed with Nokia's PureView tech.

The Lumia 920 is going to be exclusive to EE, at least at first, which means it'll also be available on Orange and T-Mobile. While Nokia says it's already started shipping units to those who pre-ordered, EE won't be selling contract-bound devices until 9 November. You can also find the 920 in Phones 4U.

Nokia Lumia 820

Thankfully the 920's little brother won't be tied to any one operator. The 4.3-inch Lumia 820 can be yours on EE, Orange, T-Mobile, O2 and Vodafone, as well as from Phones 4u and Carphone Warehouse.

HTC 8X

We've already reviewed HTC's high-end Windows Phone 8 blower, awarding it three and a half stars. But where to buy it? EE will be selling it, as will Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile, O2, Phones 4u and Carphone Warehouse.

Numerical network Three will also be selling the 8X -- it goes on sale on 2 November.

HTC 8S

HTC's mid-range Windows Phone 8 device has a 1GHz processor and a 4-inch display, as well as a 5-megapixel camera. It's available to nab on EE, O2, Orange, T-Mobile, Three, Vodafone, as well as through Phones 4u and Carphone Warehouse. Good stuff.

Samsung Ativ S

Samsung rules the roost when it comes to Android smart phones, but its first Windows Phone 8 mobile hasn't been picked up by many carriers. It's the biggest of the lot though, with a 4.8-inch display, while a 1.5GHz dual-core processor rumbles under the bonnet.

If you want to acquire the Ativ S, your only bet is O2. Phones 4u and Carphone Warehouse will also be selling it, but probably not on any other networks, at least for now.

There only slight mistake with the article the NOKIA LUMIA 920 is 4.5 inch not 4.7 inch that all.

You pick a fight with me on cnetUK over me joking about someone not knowing all the news on Orange and T-Mobile becoming EE. What a t**t and if you want to pick fights use a different form.

4GEE price plans are available on their website.
And I thought Orange and TMobile would still be running as seperate to EE tbh :-/

Looking forward to the HTC 8X, want it on Three :-D

Don't get Nokia, they desperately need the customer base but make it exclusive to the most expensive provider! I cant see enough people switching. I would love the 920 but am not going to the shoddy tariffs offered at EE so I will pick an alternative.... Well done Nokia I'm sure others will be of a similar mind, then Nokia will wonder why they don't gain much marketshare. It's not 2007 apple got away with it because there was nothing like it at the time.

I only ever buy from Carphone Warehouse.. and now I can't get my hands on a Lumia 920 in the short term... what a load of rubbish. I don't care for EE. I'm on 3 - and my speeds are perfectly adequate for Facebook, Twitter..so no point in getting a ridiculously priced plan from EE.

According to a Blog on Vodafones web site they are not launching any WP8 phones until 2013.

Bad short term move I think - I'm now moving my account and that of my business elsewhere as I've waited long enough for WP8 that I'm not waiting for them to sort themselves out.

How to lose business - ask vodafone!

None of these phone have all of the features I would expect. I want one with 4G and a microSD slot which will take the largest microSD cards. The screen needs to be 1280 * 728 as a minimum, although I understand that Microsoft have again limited the screen resolution to that as a maximum. There are Android phones coming out with 1920 * 1080 screens, why do MS limit themselves in this way?
My old HTC Touch Pro 2 is coming to the end of its life, even after a full reinstall its flagging but the real keyboard is still superb, the trouble is I do not expect to see one on any new windows phone the mores the pity.

Jeez people! CHILL OUT!

You can buy an unlocked Lumia 920 and put it on any network you like!

You'll find you'll save around £200-£300 against a 24 months contract as well. I'm buying my Lumia 920 next week from Phones4U, off contract, hopefully in white :)
