Video: Make the world's most expensive Christmas card -- with an iPhone
What do you give to the person who has everything? Well, it's quite obvious if you're former CNET UK Bubblenaut Chris Stevens -- you make them the world's most expensive Christmas card.
To create one, you'll need paper, card, an iPhone you no longer require, and a copy of the Bauble application, which is available to download for 59p from the Apple App Store. Anyone who's ever watched an episode of Blue Peter can probably work the rest out for themselves, but, if not, Chris and the app gurus at Atomic Antelope have created a handy YouTube video detailing the entire process.
The cost of the cardboard, glue, tree embellishments and iPhone make this a little more expensive than your average Clinton Cards offering, but don't be surprised if you're strangely drawn to creating one, as Chris is a pretty persuasive fellow. The man once convinced the usually style-conscious Nate Lanxon to dress as the spandex-clad Captain Goat, and former Craver Andrew Lim to walk the streets of London dressed as a giant iPhone.
Hit play on the video below to get a look at the process from start to finish, then marvel at the way the little bauble thing flails from side to side when the card is tilted -- it'll warm your heart. Let us know how you get on in the comments section below -- if you've got the roasted chestnuts to actually make one.

fake, there's no way that would survive in the post, did the person who sent it to get it ?

You can send a crystal glass by regular Royal Mail and it should arrive intact. The mail inspectors do these kind of field tests all the time. I'm sure it will have arrived fine. The iPhone is pretty damn resilient. Try drop kicking one. Not a scratch.

if you were planning on giving someone an iphone for Christmas, this is by far the coolest way of all time.

Please those peeps with an Iphone you no longer need or use, please make one however shoddy and send it over?

I drop kicked mine (accident) and it is not scratch proof.

How do you drop kick an iPhone by "accident"?
I once removed my kidney and replaced it with a Fraggle by accident.

Most expensive ? I doubt it. Im sure there been many custom designed cards costing several thousands of dollars or more.

This could easily be the most expensive. Add the cost of the iPhone, plus the phone contract, plus the cost of the cardboard together. This card could easily cost upwards of $50,000. Just depends how long the contract is for, and how many apps it has installed. You could even fill it with many thousands of dollars worth of videos and songs. The sky is the limit with the world's most expensive christmas card made out of an iPhone. Love it.
PS. What is a Fraggle? Fraggle Rock?

If Fraggles had iPhones, what do you think their favourite apps would be?

finally a good use for the iphone!!!

So...question. Why wouldn't an iPod touch work? You could use one of those, and save some cash (since the touch is lighter, postage would be cheaper, in the colonies at least)?

I am making a Christmas card out of a Bentley that will be more expensive than this. When you open the doors it will play Jingle Bells. It will also have baubles hanging from the rear view mirror and it will be painted green with a red interior to get into the festive mood. Let me see you drop kick one of those :-P

I want to see that Bentley Christmas card video! Link?

This is a great iPhone advert! Buy the iPhone - features that have been around for years at thrice the price of regular phones!
anonymous 9 December, 2009 16:45
Thats a great idea. I did something similar last year with an Aston Martin, but my brother - always the center of attention - went and made one using two Ferraris. Thats oneupmanship for you.
anonymous 9 December, 2009 16:59
the iPhone might not have the features, but it sure has got the creatures.
Go iPhone, you're still the market leader!
