Unlocked, SIM-free iPhone 3GS on sale at Play.com for £900

Online retailer Play.com has started offering unlocked, SIM-free versions of Apple's brand-new iPhone 3GS -- but at the staggering price of £900 for the 32GB model.

Both the 16GB and 32GB are listed in both black and white flavours, selling for £799.99 and £899.99 respectively. The original 3G version, which we investigated at length when Play initially offered it back in March, is also still on sale.

Play told us in March that the phones themselves originate from within the EU, "due to EU legislation ensuring the sale of SIM-free mobile phones", and due to them being unlocked, will work on Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone, 3 and O2 in the UK. They come with a full manufacturer's guarantee.

One apparent customer on the product page says, "[I] received SIM-free 3GS this morning, I couldn't be happier! Slipped in my Orange SIM card and it locked onto the network straight away."

The same user pointed out that all the menus were originally in Italian, however, which (while easily fixed) certainly fits the sourced-from-within-the-EU claim.

So would you pay £900 to use an iPhone 3GS on any network? Let us know in the comments below.
