Samsung Galaxy S4 to come in 6 variants, rumour says

Samsung's Galaxy S4 is expected to be upon us in just a couple of weeks, and here's a fresh rumour to toss on the pyre. The handset will come in black and white colours, and with either 16GB, 32GB or 64GB storage, according to an insider who's been whispering secrets to SamMobile.

The S4's predecessor -- the multi-million-selling superstar that is the Galaxy S3 -- comes in white, black or blue, so it's not much of a stretch to imagine the S4 in just two tones. You'll have a job finding a 64GB S3 round these parts though: it was delayed at first, and some retailers pulled out of stocking it due to a lack of demand.

Samsung's Galaxy handsets come with a microSD card slot, so you can bulk up a lower-capacity model. And with plenty of free storage in the cloud, and services like Spotify making it easier to carry fewer files on your mobile, some would question whether anyone really needs a 64GB phone.

Samsung is set to unveil the S4 on 14 March. It's even sent out invites to a public event in New York City's Times Square, from where I'm guessing it'll stream the launch live. Or you could just stay at home and join us for the live blog, of course. It'll be a damn sight cheaper than flying to America, for one thing.

The handset is expected to have a 5-inch 1080p display, a 13-megapixel camera, 2GB of RAM, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.7GHz. Regardless of the specs, this is guaranteed to be huge news, and you can bet it'll sell like pints on payday. Samsung already dominates the UK mobile market, and has massive marketing might. The fact its phones are pretty awesome doesn't hurt, either.

Are you looking forward to the S4? Which version would you opt for? Let me know in the comments, or on Facebook.

Will it be mushrooms?
Fried onion rings?
We'll have to wait and see...

My S2 is looking to be replaced - possibly with an S4 - just waiting to see if it lives up to the hype.

Galaxy S3 was awesome but after 6-7 months of use it suddenly found dead. This is a big quexion mark on reliability for long use...

Is definitely to be named S4 ? I read elsewhere that, that would be an "unlucky" number.

anonymous 2 March, 2013 10:10

@ anonymous 10.01

4 is an unlucky number in China. Almost all buildings never have 4 as a florr number, usually hops from 3 to 5. People also don't like phone numbers with 4 in, so it's more expensive to pick a number when getting a new sim that contains a 4.

S4 would have blown away the iphone 5 if samsung had included the S Pen? Huge error on samsungs part. Everyone would have dumped crapple for this. Just my two cents

anonymous's avatar

anonymous 2 March, 2013 12:15

@anonymous 11:30 so you think the s pen alone would make peeps leave Apple? REALLY!

anonymous 2 March, 2013 13:15

4 maybe unlucky in China but Samsung is Korean lol

anonymous's avatar

anonymous 2 March, 2013 13:28

In korea 4 also is a bad number... For superstitious people, of course.

Just like in China.

I'm for the 32gb black one.

anonymous 2 March, 2013 14:02

Anyone who thinks the number 4 is unlucky is a c.un.t

China and Korea are full of c.un.ts

Why is everyone going on about the number 4 being bad luck in china,in case you didn't know i think we're in the UK so it doesn't really matter.@ anonymous 2 march 11:30 you say that if the s4 had the s pen it would have blown away the iphone5, guess what the s4 hasn't been released yet and of course it would blow away the iphone5 , the s2 blows away the iphone5, yeah the iphone is quicker and smoother and has a better camera but that is it, a 2year old phone is more upto date than the latest offering from apple, the s2 can do sooooo much more than all the iphones, apple are basically dead in the water with their phones unless they come up with something new, and i mean new not streched, android rule , fact....

I agree with Leoevs44. If your buying or not buying something because of its name, your an idiot.

Unless the Galaxy S4 is £350, my next phone is going to be the Galaxy S3 or possibly the Galaxy Note 2. And I'm not that bothered about internal storage as long as the phone has expandable memory.

anonymous 2 March, 2013 21:11

I agree with anonymous. You're all a bunch of wa.nke.rs and utter c.un.ts

anonymous's avatar

anonymous 2 March, 2013 21:15

@Damien2501 it looks like you're going to be getting a s3 or a note2 then because tbh I think you're a bit mental hoping for that price as the price of a 16gb s3 isn't that low yet! £350 lol

anonymous's avatar

anonymous 2 March, 2013 21:19

@anonymong your mother obviously is a c.un.t because look how you turned out

Please do some research before writing pointless comments:

It's already available for £349.99 directly from Three, but even though my contract is up, I'm still gonna wait till April before buying a new phone, when it'll be even cheaper, I'm not in a hurry because my Galaxy S works brilliantly.

anonymous 2 March, 2013 23:54

Damien2501 seriously look at the nexus 4, just got two direct from google. I owned two S3's before & the nexus 4 is so much better & far cheaper. Also I'm running android 4.2.2 amazing. I will not be looking at the S4, very happy with the nexus 4.

Are Samsung purposely trying to copy Apple or what? It's getting pretty ridiculous now, they really need to start coming up with their own ideas instead of blatantly ripping off one of the biggest Tech companies out there..

Damien2501's avatar

Damien2501 3 March, 2013 00:14

@ anonymous 23.54
I would love the Nexus 4, but it doesn't have a removable battery - I know many people with phones with embedded battery's and they simply don't use their phones in the morning, I don't want to live in fear of my phone dying half way through the day.

Plus, the N4 doesn't have expandable storage, 16 GB isn't enough for me. However, I can wait till June 2013 when the new Google-Motorola Nexus phones will come out and they will also be very cheap like the N4.

anonymous's avatar

anonymous 3 March, 2013 00:27

@Damien2501 fair enough the best price I saw before going to three was £385 and that's just £35 off. But to hope the s4 is going to be released at £350 cmon. Reading what anonymous said about the nexus 4, I would be using a nexus 4 right now if it wasn't for the poor camera and non expandable memory, which is something you said you required, hope you get the device you want and at £350 the s3 is a killer phone.

@anonymous 00:02 are you mad bru?

I will not buy Samsung s4 if it comes with snapdragon and lcd 2. I want Amoled and Exynos

wano's avatar

wano 3 March, 2013 12:50

Amoled?? Wtf over saturated colors or wat! Listen people don't fall victims of advisement like I did , Samsung got lots of money in advisement and I got s3 but there are better devices than this, it feels cheap , my next phone is going 2b the new HTC m7 aka HTC one ! It just won the award for best smart phone 2013 ....all us Sammy people need 2 know is your going 2 get a add on (wrist watch )on Samsung s4 that's is it ! Check out project ( j ) in Google.

anonymous's avatar

anonymous 3 March, 2013 14:25

@Wano how can it be best smartphone of 2013 when it's March even if what you say is true it's a bs award. Amoled screens have their pros and cons just like lcd, for example amazing viewing angles, unbeatable contrast because of the best blacks because it doesn't have a back light unlike lcd they have great whites and generally better colour reproduction but I'd say amoled are more efficient.

anonymous 3 March, 2013 16:41

Sorry but if Samsung uses cheap shiny plastics again and overall poor build quality then I will pass and pick up something truly aspiring like the Xperia Z or HTC One!

wano's avatar

wano 3 March, 2013 21:22

Again I am not going 2 b a product of advisement ! Xperia is a top Koch phone that u can text in the bath awesome ! But why are people complaining that the earpeice is low quality? And other people on the other end can't understand what they are saying ? So dose that mean the Mic is aswell ? Mmmm that's not Sony's way 2 scrimp! This is what I came up with..........there must be a protective cover over them ?...can't have it all hay? And apparent the 13.1meg cam is the worst out there? Google it !

wano's avatar

After my experience with the S3, there's no way I'll be getting an S4.
The first one I dropped and it smashed to pieces. Insurance covered that.
The next one lasted 4 months before the screen started to lose its responsiveness and areas of the screen started to show distorted colours. That one has been replaced too under warranty.
I get the distinct impression the hardware is just plain cheap.

I've had my S3 for about 4 months now and love it. Especially since the JB update. I'm looking forward to seeing how the S4 shapes up when it is released. I already want it! ^_^
