The Samsung Galaxy S4 is here at last! You can take your pick of shops and phone networks to snap up the new Android smart phone powerhouse, as every major network and retailer sells the S4 -- but which one should get your cash?
O2, EE, Orange, T-Mobile, Three, Vodafone, Virgin Media and Tesco Mobile are all selling the S4. Carphone Warehouse and Phones 4U have it too, as well as online retailers. If you've ordered already, it could arrive today, but if not most will have the phone on shop shelves tomorrow.
For the best deals, check out our special mobile deals calculator or read for some of our picks.
Best deals
Deals for the S4 with a respectable amount of data and calls mostly cost £35-£45, usually over two years. With a Web-connected Android smart phone like the S4, data is a big deal. Three is the only network to offer contracts with unlimited data, costing £35 per month for two years, and the phone is free.
If you don't want to be tied down for two years, Vodafone's 12-month contracts cost around £43 plus the phone costing around £120 up front, with 500MB of data.
And if you want more freedom, O2's new Refresh tariff and Tesco's Anytime Upgrade deal allow you to pay for phone and minutes separately, so once you've paid for the phone you can change to another network without having to cough up a huge fine.
You can pay less on a monthly basis, but you won't get as much from your contract and the phone still costs £400 or £500 up front, so it's not always worth it.
On selected contracts, Orange and T-Mobile are also throwing in a Google Nexus 7, Xbox or other gadget, but the minutes and data allowances are low to non-existent, so you will end up paying for this 'free gift' over the length of the contract.
SIM-free and PAYG
If you want to buy the S4 on its own and stick in your own cheap SIM -- GiffGaff does unlimited data for just £12 per month -- you can buy it for £580 from Carphone Warehouse.
At the time of writing, none of the networks are offering the S4 on a pay as you go basis, so you either need to pony up that £580 or lock into a contract.
4G
The S4 has 4G built in and should work on each phone network when they launch 4G services this summer. From day one you'll be able to use the S4 with 4G speeds on EE, Britain's first LTE network, with 1GB of data costing £41 per month and the phone costing £80 up front.
Unlike EE, Three has promised it won't charge extra for 4G. So when you buy the S4 on Three, you'll seamlessly connect to 4G when its LTE service launches a month or two later without having to switch to a different contract.

Carphone Warehouse are taking pre-registration orders from today with a deposit of £29.
CaptainPicard 15 March, 2013 11:28
Regarding 4G - I think Three would be crazy to offer 4G without charging a slight premium despite what they have said. And if I was looking for a new phone, I certainly won't go for a contract again; ridiculous charges, mid contract price rises and abysmal data limits.
anonymous 15 March, 2013 11:43
better be cheaper else wont sell as much because sg3 still good phone
anonymous 15 March, 2013 11:57
Obviously its going to be £500 pay as you go or £30 a month with a 2 year contract as a minimum.
It happens with every new phone
anonymous 15 March, 2013 12:51
Won't you be able to buy the S4 network free/unlocked?
anonymous 15 March, 2013 15:07
Good question anonymous. I would like to know the answer to that as well.
DaEmOn77 15 March, 2013 17:04
@anon 11:57. £30 a month on contract yeah right and the rest. SGS3 was £36 a month over 2 years,(on release)so I would guess this will be more. Also carphone didn't ask for a deposit on the SGS3, so that tells you it's gonna be higher.
anonymous 15 March, 2013 19:40
@DaEmOn77, I wouldn't buy direct from a shop, they would charge silly amounts like £36 per month and possibly pay a certain amount for the phone too. I always go online to buy, from sites like buymobilephones.net. New phones like the Sony z and htc one are all free on £31 per month contracts. I believe the s4 will be the same.
DaEmOn77 15 March, 2013 21:10
It doesnt matter where you get the phone from the tarrif price is always going to be the same. O2, EE,3 etc set the tarriff for specific phones, its the shops that may implement a charge. So whether you go online or to high street shop the deals will to be the same. The shops or internet can only go as low as what the tarriff is set to, that is why contract phones tend to be free, because it is the only way phone sellers can compete, but there are those exceptions where they will charge you and it is looking like the S4 will be one.
CaptainPicard 15 March, 2013 23:56
@DaEmOn77 I don't recommend contacts but I highly recommend you check out "buymobilephones.net" like anonymous stated- their deals are unbelievable. You might think they are scam but they've got 40K + Facebook "likes" they are real. Do a comparison between their contact deals and other retailers deals on a range of phones.
DaEmOn77 16 March, 2013 00:30
Yeah I have checked it out and it is nothing special and in fact I found better deals on carphone warhouse galaxy s3 on buyphones 300 mins 5000 txt unlimited data £26 on CPW 500 mins 5000 TXT unlimited data £25. Like I said in my previous post no one phone seller is better than another, they all work within the same limitations, wether they are on the high street or net,
Matt Winston. 16 March, 2013 15:27
I brought my Galaxy S2 7 months ago from Buymobilephones.net on a bargain deal: £15.5 PM/2 years and I got 200 mins, unlimited texts & 500 MB of data - nothing upfront; on the CPW site it cost £26 per month for the same allowance. I recommend them to all my friends and family, I'll never go near Phones4U or CPW again.
anonymous 16 March, 2013 19:25
Are you sure you lot don't work for buymobilephones.net lol
CaptainPicard 16 March, 2013 23:50
@DaEmOn77 I meant on a range of phones, iPhone 5, Nokia Lumia 920, BB Z10 and others, 'buymobilephones.net' in general have better deals and gifts & cashback offers than Carphone Warehouse, I found £2 to £15 difference on contacts. And I'll try not to mention that website again on CNET.

Samsung is very clever they are taking time for release of S4 so in meantime they can make money from S3 by lowering its price. By releasing stupid colour option :@ can't wait for S4 to come out already needing it badly its maps to take me to college for interview in may. Bye Apple you are too greedy always busy counting money instead of specs/features on your next phone too greedy. Always "twice as fast" the game is over now! Carphone Warehouse pay-asyou-go phone are unlocked.

T Mobile Full Monty £36 per month/24 months. Unlimited data/texts/T Mobile minutes. Phone costs £99.99. That's what I'm going for.
anonymous 23 April, 2013 15:53
CaptRimmer - do you really unlimited minutes?
If you don't need unlimited minutes, consider buying the phone using a credit card add a SIM only plan and you'd likely still be better off.
Buying the phone at £580 SIM-Free with PAYG at £12 per month, compared to the contract cost of £1084 over 24 months (£41/mth x 12 = £984 + £100 deposit for the phone), the effective interest you're paying on the contract is around 39% APR
anonymous 23 April, 2013 16:04
@CaptRimmer
I hope you're joking. £36*24 + £100 = £964
T-mobile's Full Monty "Unlimited Data" is permanently capped at 4Mb/s regardless of how much or little you use. You'll never get speeds faster than this.
You'll also be stuck on 3G for the next 24 months as T mobile will not be switching over to 4G, so your ability to receive signal for data inside buildings will be massively reduced. This is almost the worst contract on the S4 I'm surprised someone would actually choose it.
Try Three's full Monty for £1 a month more. And it's a free phone. Get £60 cashback off quidco as well. Plus actually unlimited uncapped data and they use Orange/ Tmobile's 2G netork anyway so your signal won't be any worse anywhere in the country and your data will not only be much faster on 3G but you'll get 4G for free around September when 4G comes to Three for free. Ultimately you'll have a far cheaper, far faster contract with a smaller initial cost and the added bonus of free 4G and £60 cashback too.
anonymous 23 April, 2013 16:32
@CaptainPicard
Three are probably the best provider for it tbh. You mentioned data there, I'm on The One Plan with them myself and I'm experiencing faster speeds than my father who is paying for a 4g contract with EE, plus the AYCE data that Three offer data limit is 1000GB, so fair play really and it includes tethering.
anonymous 24 April, 2013 11:04
Three may be offering 4g contracts for the same price as their current 3g when it becomes available. However, that is not to say that if you sign up to a 2-year contract on 3g they will just bump you up to the 4g. You are in a contract. This will be for new customers. If you really want it, your best bet is to buy the phone full price, then go for Three's 30-day contract and then you can go to the 4g at no extra cost when it is available. (Or wait a couple of weeks until the price goes down to £500)
anonymous 24 April, 2013 11:46
You lot in the UK are being raped on this...I'm British but live abroad, much cheaper phones and much cheaper data.
I bought my Xperia Z in Dubai (holiday) for 437 pounds two weeks ago, and will pay about 15 pounds per month for unlimited 3g at home (Bangkok); fast speeds, decent coverage (can listen to absolue radio while driving along with Wisepilot). My unlimited broadband at home, 18mbps costs 13 pounds per month.
Don't know why anybody would speed 600 pounds on the S4 bit of plastic, it's a 400-450 pound phone, imho...
Whenever I pop home for a visit, it shocks me how the likes of Sky and Vodaphone get away with raping the masses... :(
anonymous 24 April, 2013 11:49
^ meant to mention that 4g is available in Bkk now too, similar prices to 3g...
(as well as Dubai, Muscat, the list goes on...)
anonymous 24 April, 2013 16:48
What is the price of the s4 in the uk from carphone warehouse becuase on the site it doesn't say on there i am looking for the sim free version so can u please inform me how much the sim free is at carphone warehouse thank you
anonymous 25 April, 2013 01:38
SIM FREE- GALAXY S4...
ASDA are doing it the cheapest... £577..CHEAPEST BY FAR
anonymous 25 April, 2013 01:51
A no brainer really. Compare buying the phone and then paying your 12 a month for sim only contract to a free phone from three and 35 a month for two years. The contract works out cheaper. Not to mention any interest you may pay if you buy it on credit card. Also good for offsetting against your tax if you are a business.
anonymous 25 April, 2013 07:54
Can't wait to get mine! GAME has started to trade in phones for cash or credit so gonna head down and sell my S3 today :)
anonymous 25 April, 2013 13:44
