The Samsung Galaxy S3 will be a relatively minor update from the S2, a source in the UK telecoms industry has told me, with a speed boost and eye-tracking among the upgrades. And it probably won't be called the Galaxy S3.
Rather than go for a complete overhaul, Samsung has apparently opted for an incremental update to the S3. "It'll be like the iPhone 4S was to the 4," says my source, who wished to remain anonymous. He gave no firm word on specs, but said we should look to the HTC One X for what to expect. That has a 1.5GHz quad-core chip with 1GB of RAM and a 4.7-inch screen.
With an invite to a 3 May launch plopping into the CNET UK inbox, Samsung's next superphone is just around the corner. But what do we expect it to look like? Word on the street last week was that the physical home button on the front would remain intact, suggesting the design won't differ a whole lot from the existing S2 or the Galaxy Note.
Given that Samsung told us the Note is the spiritual successor to the S2, it doesn't come as a huge surprise to hear the design hasn't been overhauled, but I can't deny I'm disappointed. Specs-wise, that's roughly what we we've been expecting, although previous leaks had suggested the new model would be packing a stonking 1.8GHz chip, as well as a hearty 2GB of RAM, putting it easily at the top of the pile in terms of power.
Interestingly, Samsung may throw a curveball with the name. "Don't expect it to be called the S3," said my source, with a sly smile. Jason predicted yesterday that Samsung might "do an Apple" with the name, but I'm not sure it's the best move -- given that there are already so many Galaxy phones around, and the S2 is so popular, I reckon it would be wiser to stick with a straightforward name that shows people it's the successor to the S2.
Samsung has apparently codenamed the phone 'Bali' internally, but it's highly unlikely it'll launch with that name -- it doesn't match with any of its previous naming conventions and naming phones after places is more of Orange's thing.
One extra feature my source discussed was the use of eye-tracking, which Samsung is apparently calling 'Human Interaction'. The phone's front-facing camera is able to detect when you're looking at the screen -- when you're writing a text for example -- and is able to lock when you look away.
This could be a handy feature, but it sounds like a hassle to me. If it requires you to put your passcode in every time you glance away from the screen, it'll quickly become infuriating. It'll be interesting to see how it's implemented, but for the time being it sounds like more of a novelty feature, like Ice Cream Sandwich's face unlock, rather than a truly useful addition.
The rumour mill has been churning furiously over the past few months, with claims of flexible displays and mad design aesthetics flying all over the place, so I can't help but be disappointed by the news that the S3 will be evolutionary rather than revolutionary.
With quad-core specs similar to the One X, the Galaxy S3 -- or whatever it's eventually called -- will be a step ahead of the iPhone 4S power-wise, but it leaves the door open for the iPhone 5 (which we might see in October) to push clear of the chasing pack. It would have been an exciting move for Samsung to really push the boat out with this guy.
The launch is only a few weeks away now, so we don't have long to wait to see exactly what we'll be getting. In the meantime, check out our complete guide, watch our video below, and head over to our Facebook page to tell us exactly what you want to see on the latest blower -- and give me some ideas on what you think it should be called.

What a dissapointment, if this news is true I will stay with Apple forever I guess. So long, dreams about a truly 21st century mobile;(
anonymous 17 April, 2012 11:12
"The Samsung Galaxy S3 will be a relatively minor update from the S2"
Are you kidding me? why delay or prolong the release of S3 if there will only be few changes/minor update???
We have been waiting for so long only to get disappointed if ever what i have read in this article is true.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 11:13
Please say this isn't true, if it is I may as well buy the HTC one x right now, or wait it out for the iphone 5. Been waiting for this phone for a long time, checking news on it so many times a day but all for nothing, as this is a huge let down.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 11:28
What a joke! They want to go the HTC route? Well, then expect the shares tp plumet along with the profit, just like HTC. If this ("evolutionary rather than revolutionary") were to be true, they shoot themselves in the foot! Losers...
anonymous 17 April, 2012 11:31
All the Galaxy S ever needed was a camera flash and a dedicated camera button.
The camera flash came with the Galaxy 2.
All the Galaxy 2 was missing was the dedicated camera button.
If the Galaxy 3 doesn't feature the d.c. button, it isn't worth releasing.
Both flash and button should have been included on ALL smartphones from ALL manufacturers for the last 2 years. Their omission is part of a universal strategy to have customers continually 'upgrade' to get functions which could have been provided on the first model.
If dumb phones have had flash and button for years, there is no excuse for smartphones not to have had them from day 1.
Same goes for Apple Iphone, HTC Desire/Incredible/Sensation, Sony Ericsson Arc S
Manipulating profiteers of the corporate world....don't give the public what they need or want, conspire to give the public only half of what they want, change the design for the worse, bolt on the missing functions and launch with the top price tag again. And everybody falls for it.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 11:34
This is cnet for you, always keeping Apple in the forefront regardless of the storyline. Biased reporting is their game so of course they "found" a source to downplay the hype. And of course they add their stupid iphone5 line in just about every android story. My source says it will be revolutionary.... so there.....
rumanuu76 17 April, 2012 11:36
I'd take this article the same as I take all the other articles on the S3 - with a pinch of salt.
One thing I've learnt about tech journalists in the past few years is they know frick all and like to speculate wildly like the rest of us :)
anonymous 17 April, 2012 11:51
I don't believe it, what makes this 'source' any different from the other sources? Which all contradict each other in specs, unless its reliable its no more trustworthy than what my 5 year old son thinks the gs3 will be like...
anonymous 17 April, 2012 12:02
I don't believe this article, even after Samsung announced the release date on may 3, the writer is still churning out fake rumors and stories. Ok, we get it, Galaxy S3 is not worth the hype, but the I phone 5 is. We shouldn't expect anything but minor upgrades from Samsung, unlike the revolution Apple started with its "new" I pad.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 12:11
I think your "source" in the UK Telecom Industry either works for HTC or has a lot of HTC shares. ;)
anonymous 17 April, 2012 12:14
I have waiting to upgrade for nearly a month now and decided not to go for the One X as I expected that the S3 would blow it out of the water. I am a little disappointed but still may get it if the battery life and camera are better then the One X the alternative is to wait for the Padfone which comes out later in May, its a great concept but only works if the pricing isn't over the top.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 12:15
all crap story...******** dont worry guys its not true news...
anonymous 17 April, 2012 12:31
I would just like to say that i find the face unlock to be very usefull and not just a novelty feature. When walking down the street you dont need to type and look at the screen thus being able to avoid obstacles.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 12:38
Does this sound like a minor update?
4.7 inch 720P+ HD screen
1.5 GHz quad core processor
Ceramic body 8mm thin
12 MP camera
NFC
Your sources are tomato ketchup.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 12:41
This cannot be true. Why go to all that trouble to hide the device from ANY leaks if it is simply a little upgrade to the S2 ? It seems like an incredibly bad marketing decision. Furthermore, Samsung is on the verge of dominating the smartphone business if they go with the S3 spec rumors and given the fact that they are such a huge company, I believe they have not made that mistake to only bring only a few upgrades. There is too much money at stake to make such a terrible decision. This article seems really biased.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 12:55
Haha... Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5 are not released yet, but CNet (iNet) already branding iPhone as better phone. You guys are joke.....
anonymous 17 April, 2012 12:57
Wouldn't take much notice of this article as many have mentioned that it is no different from any other rumour.
While the rumour mill has been churning heavily over the past few weeks, it will continue churning until 3rd May. So while many cannot wait until the annoucment (me being one of them to replace my original Desire). Don't raise expectations - I would rather be plesently suprised than bitterly disappointed.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 13:03
Don't believe what CNET says. CNET is full of *****!
anonymous 17 April, 2012 13:08
I have been waiting for the S3 for a few months now,I hope this artical is wrong!! If it turns out to be correct I wont be signing a lengthy expensive contract for "Minor updates"
anonymous 17 April, 2012 13:09
So a crap like Siri was major update for cnet, but eye tracking is a minor update?! Cnet defines "biased"!
anonymous 17 April, 2012 13:12
At no point does this article say the iPhone 5 WILL be better. It says it could be if Samsung do not produce a phone with big improvements on the S2. Which, given it will be released much later in the year, it certainly could be. Fans of both iOS and Android need to get a grip and actually read what is written. And no, there is no bias in this article whatsoever.
As a Desire owner ready to upgrade, I truly hope Samsung do push the boat out. And as others have said, there have been way too many "sources" revealing contradictory information for them to hold any gravitas. Probably best just to wait until May 3rd, but hey, it's fun speculating!
anonymous 17 April, 2012 13:16
Hmm... an incremental update not called the S3... if we assume Samsung will continue to ape Apple, perhaps we can expect the Samsung Galaxy S2S.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 13:24
I was (secretly) hoping for a Samsung letdown for HTC's One lineup to shine even more.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 13:32
Total nonsense. This is the very trashy 'journalism' that I've sadly come to expect from cnet. For a start, a 1.5ghz quad-core processor (probably an exynos chip) and a 4.7 inch screen (probably Super AMOLED+) is definitely not a "minor upgrade." And how can you refer to eye tracking as "a lot of hassle" when you've never even tried it?! Plus a litany of other very important specs are totally ignored. You should be embarrassed.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 13:33
Are you friggin sure your source is reliable? All of this seems like a ******** statement to me. Go figure
anonymous 17 April, 2012 13:34
So the galaxy S3 is a minor upgrade and NOT the galaxy S3... Isn't that kind of like like saying the iPhone 4S isn't the iPhone 5?
Junaid 17 April, 2012 13:44
It will be dissapointing if the end product is not revolutionary. Samsung established themselves so very well last year ( Thanks to HTC ). They need to keep the momentum going and be a bit more competitive or else like many said here....they will have there downfall very soon....I bought the HTC ONE X anyway. Its a great phone and i always had this feeling that Samsung might not be able to beat it comprehensivley as the phone has some exceptional hard to beat features. Good luck Sammy....i will be keeping a very close eye :)
mikesphoneandtab 17 April, 2012 13:50
I am disappointed to but I have to admit that I should have seen this coming. I saw a trend. The new Galaxy Tab 7.0 and 10.1 2nd generation were just minor updates. So was the new Galaxy player. I feel like instead of trying to get ahead of competitor like... ahem... Apple, they proudly think they are already there (I do believe they are but this doesn't seem like good business practice).
anonymous 17 April, 2012 14:03
"The S3 will be a minor update to the S2?"
Sounds like Apple's business model with small updates with each new release lol
The S3 will be a HUGE upgrade!!! I'm an iPhone user moving to Android b/c I hate having to use my phone according to how Apple allows me. I'm tired of relying on jailbreak and I can't wait to enter an open-source operating system.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 14:08
i think cnet has gone mad . a big company like samsung will never make a so big platform and its customer wait so much for only a little upgraded phone.i not know from where cnet brings so duffer articles
anonymous 17 April, 2012 14:11
4 minutes and 40 seconds to say absolutely nothing!
anonymous 17 April, 2012 14:14
Apple makes their people wait a long time for an incremental update. What was really the difference between 3G and 3GS? A little more RAM and a better (but mostly unusable) radio. Big whoop. 4S was also a huge disappointment, but at least that had an upgraded processor.
Samsung is in it to win it. People still have the perception that Apple is king, but the S3 will be far-superior in every way from hardware to software to the 4S and even to the next iteration of the iPhone.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 14:15
Nice try, cnet. You'll eat your word on May 3.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 14:31
Lol. If you believe this you still believe in the easter bunny.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 15:03
My sauce is nandos, and they are telling me to buy a wrap, because this article and these comments are a wrap. STOP CRYING HOMMIES. And if you want a truley revolutionary phone, then I am starting up a revolutionary phone company and I will be taking donations*.
Donations must be a minimum of £200
anonymous 17 April, 2012 15:39
if this is true abviously going for iphone 5 or htc one x. iphone will rule market again .. beware samsung.
Ryan Simmons 17 April, 2012 15:45
I doubt the validity of this comment. There are a few certain features that will be upgraded: screen (likely to SAMOLED+ 720p, probably ~4.6"), processor (likely quad A9 or dual a15), and a battery to keep up, plus ICS. That doesn't scream "minor" to me, in fact it seems pretty legitimate as an upgrade. Then there's the more persistent rumours, like the ceramic casing and minor upgrade to the camera, that I'd put a fair amount of confidence into.
Also, they should use the name Galaxy S3, nothing else makes sense. S2S? The New Galaxy S? (Please no, it was a bad decision on Apple's part, so don't emulate it)
anonymous 17 April, 2012 15:46
Load of ****! Somebody told him this?? Well I work for a mobile/cell pone licensing company I and I tell you that all new phones are actually goin to be made from moon dust!! Do you believe that as well!
anonymous 17 April, 2012 15:48
Haha moon dust!! CNET quick there's a new rumour for you!
anonymous 17 April, 2012 15:58
The Source is probably an HTC salesperson trying to shift a few one x before it gets destroyed by GS3 ;) lol
anonymous 17 April, 2012 16:08
this piece of ****** reporting takes the cake. cnet is officially ****
anonymous 17 April, 2012 16:14
As the Americans would say.... BALONEY!!!
In my words this is complete made up ********... Why would Samsung create a "Something big is coming" event and launch an updated s2 as an s3 or rather the "next galaxy" after such a delay. It simply doesn't make sense. Rather than posting crap like this on the net why not just wait and see, besides there are only 2 weeks left before this event.
Then again I guess its just business, ya'll need readers and stories like this drag em in by the truckload.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 16:23
GALAXY S 3 will definitely dominate 2012. haters are insecure!
anonymous 17 April, 2012 16:36
They won't do a 'Apple' with a minor update, the design will be different. Think about it, they poked fun at Apple in an US ad campaign, for the device looking exactly the same.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 16:36
No way possible, I think they've ran with the S2 enough now; releasing new versions of it with improved specs, this has to be something "major", not just an S2 with slightly better specs...
They've released many phones which are slight variances to the S2, they would not do I again and make such a big deal over it!
anonymous 17 April, 2012 16:48
I believe Samsung will blow away our minds AGAIN with this new addition to it's artillery. The new phone has to be amazingly awesome to grab a good share of the consumers before iPhone 5 launches in October. However, if this new phone came out with the same disappointments as there were with iPhone 4S then it'll be very hard to say if Samsung will be able to keep its dominance in the mobile world.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 17:10
CNET trolling level: over i9100
anonymous 17 April, 2012 17:44
Gotta say, I'm not that disappointed. I can stick with my S2 now. I especially don't feel like buying another Samsung phone after the way they have treated UK customers who bought their phones sim free ... Still no ICS upgrade for S2, it looks like we'll have to wait until the very last network eventually decides to validate the upgrade. What a complete load of rubbish the UK VP spewed out, about how they care so much about their customers. So Mr VP if Im currently on O2 with a ICS upgraded S", can I not switch my network to one that hasn't ratified ICS ... Of course I can. Its simple Samsung UK would prefer everyone to buy through a network, so they can offer deals like the one with T-Mobile, whereby T-Mobile had the S2 1 week before everyone else.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 17:52
I can upgrade from mid June so I will see all the reviews and comments from people on the S3 before I decide. Might just go with S2 or Note...not really sure.. any advice???
anonymous 17 April, 2012 18:06
Is the codename 'Bali'? You were just fooled by your source. :p
anonymous 17 April, 2012 18:16
Hopefully it's just a way of reducing the anticipation so we don't get over enthusiastic and disappointed...like with the iPhone 4s a lot of anticipation led to disappointment. They better not "pull an apple" though, that really is shooting themselves in the foot, they need to be different and bold for sure!
anonymous 17 April, 2012 18:22
just hoppin this aint true!
anonymous 17 April, 2012 19:36
Load of ******** coming from CNET as usual. Anyone who believes this does not deserve a phone like the S3, they deserve some Apple crap. When will CNET get off Apple's payroll and nuts. Apple is so lame. Fanboys suck!
anonymous 17 April, 2012 20:23
This is just to manage expectation - pure marketing. Right now everybody is too excited for S3. So at this point marketing goad is to lower expectation. Otherwise there will be no news during the launch - just confirmation of what is already was expected. So again, now marketing goal it to lower expectations so when product is actually announced - you'll have something to be excited about.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 21:18
Oh my. Who gives a crap about these brand new phones?! You know, if people would just keep these phones for a while instead of freaking out and ABSOLUTELY DEMANDING the most current pos on the market, (greedy children) The manufacturers would not have the ability to dump all of these "revolutionary" products on you all like so many carrots-on-sticks. Hilarious. When I upgrade my phone (which isn't too fancy, mind you [moto blur]) I will get a piece of tech that is far superior to my old phone.... and I'll be happy. Supply comes from Demand, people. Much Love.
ps, did we REALLY expect an objective opinion from CNET? Seriously, people.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 21:33
What a load of rubbish, they make this stuff up. This is gonna be the phone of 2012
anonymous 17 April, 2012 22:46
A couple of reasons why I think this won't be just an incremental upgrade. First they wouldn't skip MWC and spend the money on their own private event if it wasn't something huge they wanted to announce. Secondly, Samsung is a competitor (especially when it comes to smart phones) and I think that they know it would be suicide to not blow our minds at this event. And lastly, not one other rumor or "leak" has come out saying that the gs3 will be dissapointing at launch. I think cnet just put something contreversial
up to take advantage of the press invites and direct traffic to their site
anonymous 17 April, 2012 23:00
Many Samsung fan boys abused apple and it's iPhone fans for the 4s with its minor update. Shoes on the other foot now.
anonymous 17 April, 2012 23:42
I predicted this event on my twitter account, to the very day, 16th April.
anonymous 18 April, 2012 00:44
I have a gs2 and waiting for s3 or what ever it will be the name, one thing i can say , they may launch 10 iphones before that and i still gona be waiting for galaxy.
anonymous 18 April, 2012 03:27
I agree with anonymous as far as the camera tech goes, when I bought my n82 4 years ago I was thinking finally they have brought a decent all round camera to a phone and it could only go up from here, I was wrong. It went in reverse, dropping the dedicated camera flash and focusing system in favor of LED flash which is just about utterly useless at night. the iphone 4s doesnt even focus as reliably as my dinosaur n82....pathetic
4 years later and the only smart phone to finally have it is another nokia but having to use symbian for the privilege! ! ! ! I think not.
anonymous 18 April, 2012 07:00
leaves the door open for the iPhone 5 (which we might see in October) to push clear of the chasing pack.
That's not how apple works, if it does have quad core it will be underclocked like every other iPhone then the next verson will be a bit faster with more ram then the next set of hardware is introduced.
I have the x one great phone :) I hope the s3 is better so it will continue to push companys to get better and better.
anonymous 18 April, 2012 09:01
As new Samsung phone is sponsor phone of Olympics and Samsung and Visa joined forces last year on various projects, I'd expect the new S3 to have a Visa / Olympics 'wave and pay' type addition.
cheers
anonymous 18 April, 2012 11:10
This is rubbish. I spoke to a tech lead in Samsung development who was burning his heels to fix some bugs in the new phone, was very happy to say that S3 is going to be launched in May. I think it all depends on who our contacts are and whom do we ask the questions.
Nevertheless keeping the "copy the iPhone" history of Samsung, I wouldn't mind to take back my statements
anonymous 18 April, 2012 11:37
What is this? An attempt by cnet to turn down the anxiety for the new device? None of the upgrades to flagship models are revolutionary if you think about it. They just make it faster, better thinner thats exactly what the S3 is supposed to do. That's what apple has been doing. So why the hoopla? Apple devices, for instance the 'new ipad', have been termed revolutionary.. when all it really did was present a screen with unusual and as per me.. weird resolution specs.
Is that the only thing that makes it revolutionary? Well then i guess my friends at the so called 'Source' are in for a big surprise as they are gonna witness wide scale improvements on the S3 from the S2. Better Graphics Better architecture, more cores and increased RAM. Different design, ofcourse picking up from where S2 left. All i wanna ask is why the partial treatment?
P.S. A message to cnet, please test the authenticity and applicability of such rumors before you post them. You guys are undermining and potentially harming one of the biggest brands supporting Open Source platforms by posting such ridiculous claims.
anonymous 18 April, 2012 12:16
Welcome to world of Samsung using substandard hardwares. Selling mobile phones with 10 times the cost price and people and jumping into it once they are released. Stop using those substandard devices. Chinese products are better than these smart phones. Use all the features like Wi-Fi, GPS.. get your battery drained within four hours. Samsung wants every smart phone user to carry a generator with the phone!!!
anonymous 18 April, 2012 13:46
Just curious.....at the moment is there any point in pushing out phones with quad core processors? is there anything that is likely to need quad core. or is it just one of those 'following the trend' things? Oh. and im a proud galaxy s2 owner :-)
anonymous 18 April, 2012 14:29
In a meeting with Samsung Norway about half a month ago, I asked specifically about the S3.
I asked if it would be worth the wait, and as revolutionary as I'd wish. Seeing as we already knew the One X would be great. The spokesman from Samsung said they knew approximately what the contesters would deliver and PROMISED a revolution. 'It won't be similar to anything on the market, both within specs and design.'
I choose not to believe he lied. I think it WILL be fantastic and revolutionary. If Samsung release a ''i9100S'' they basiclly let Crapple win this year. No way they will! If so...Stupid stupid Samsung.
anonymous 18 April, 2012 15:22
to the comment above, I think the quad core is for better multitasking, more cores means more applications can be open at one time without slowing down the phone too much and as phones get more powerful, especially since games can begin to make use of these processors, we will have a need for quad core processors. Like computer games, advances in technology will push the need for faster more powerful devices.
I think they're introducing them in anticipation of this and step further away from companies who do not make use of them. think about it, if people start to make apps that take advantage of these processors then the companies that do not make quad core chips will get left behind. We need to remember that Android is more of a portable computer with it being open source and highly flexible, so depending on the users needs some will take advantage of the quadcore and the average user may not but it wouldn't matter because they probably don't understand or have a need for it. That IMO is a good thing, as it'll appeal to everyone.
I HIGHLY doubt Samsung will pull an apple and call it the GS2S or something lame like that, I bet it'll be a signification of a new range like galaxy nebula or something if it isn't called the S3 lol.
anonymous 18 April, 2012 15:55
come on guys take it easy maybe this guy is talking about the aspect of the phone, i don't think is necessary to change the aspects that quickly the s2 design was that good even huawei copy the design because looks beautiful, slim and was lighter than any phone with those specs last year.
this is not like the refresh apple throw, it is a major upgrade better processor (4412 or 5250 quad or better GPU), more battery friendly, different casing a more original one with ceramic (also help wifi and network signal), maybe pen technology, better screen (hope super amoled HD plus), and maybe better ram memory (this is more important to the android phones and help the experience of average users IMO help multitasking and samsung says they move to ddr 3 support in their chips, so more speed and management).
this is a major upgrade for me but i don't think the aspect, casing design, even screen size would change dramatically, just case material. so easy guys and wait
anonymous 19 April, 2012 10:20
I want galaxy s3.
anonymous 19 April, 2012 10:38
I am exremely sceptical about this news. It even contradicts some of the "leaks" that have come from CNET. It would make absolutely no sense to do this for many reasons:
1. Samsung main competitor is Apple not HTC and therefore they need to look to beat IPhone 5 given that apple did very little with 4s it is likely I5 will be a big innovation
2. The competition is very stiff even in the Android sector. HTC took their foot slightly off the pedal in 2011/12 and they have payed dearly. Nokia is still trying to recover ground. Samsung put and very good effort into improving the Galaxy range and the market have loved it. Why would they allow the competition to catch-up. Take for example HTC One X
3. There are other varients of the Galaxy S2 that are better than the standard international version, in particular the Korean HD LTE version which is around 4.5 inch screen and 1200 x 720 resolution this is already in existance. So a slight upgrade would mean that the South Koreans would have nothing better at all.
4. Samsung have built up incredible expectactions with going for a single launch event and not announcing through CES or MWC this would be a great let down and I do not think that Android fans are as forgiving or loyal as Apple fans
anonymous 19 April, 2012 13:03
I get why it won't be the Galaxy S3 - it will be the Olympic! You heard it from me first - vakeros!
anonymous 19 April, 2012 16:24
"Does this sound like a minor update?
4.7 inch 720P+ HD screen
1.5 GHz quad core processor
Ceramic body 8mm thin
12 MP camera
NFC
Your sources are tomato ketchup."
Exactly. I am not sure what more you could want with current technology. Well, personally I prefer a smaller screen.
anonymous 19 April, 2012 18:50
"What a joke! They want to go the HTC route? Well, then expect the shares tp plumet along with the profit, just like HTC. If this ("evolutionary rather than revolutionary") were to be true, they shoot themselves in the foot! Losers..."
Hahahahahahaha! Do you believe everything these pseudo-journalists write?? Dude, all of this is completely speculative, based on 3rd party (mis)information, and probably 99% false. Cool down, smoke a fatty, and wait for the official announcement.

Lol. This is way off target. Sammy wouldn't shoot itself in the foot the way aapl has. I'm betting on nothing less than a revolution.

"The phone's front-facing camera is able to detect when you're looking at the screen -- when you're writing a text for example -- and is able to lock when you look away. This could be a handy feature, but it sounds like a hassle to me."
Er, your idea would not go past user testing. More than likely, rather than locking immediately, it would just blank the screen to save battery life, and only lock it after a standard allocated time. It will probably need to be enabled/disabled per app, as you would want it off for navigation for example, since maps in cars at usually just glanced at.
