Samsung Galaxy S3 suffers huge shortage of blue models in UK

Have you pre-ordered the new Galaxy S3 in the silky-looking pebble blue colour? Bad news, chum -- it looks like the UK is going to be extremely short on supplies of this particular model when the phone goes on sale this week.

I spoke to a trusted telecoms industry insider who confirmed to me that the blue model is suffering from severe manufacturing problems, resulting in considerably fewer being available at launch day. In fact, the insider indicated that less than five per cent of the total stock arriving for sale will be blue.

The reasons for the delay are due to colour issues in the manufacturing process, SlashGear reports, with Samsung apparently having to throw away over 600,000 back cases. If this sounds at all familiar, it's because Apple had very similar colour issues when it first tried to launch the white iPhone 4. It took months of delays before we finally saw the phone on sale.

The difference here is that Apple hadn't been promising the white phone from launch and crucially, hadn't been taking pre-orders for it. Given the high-profile nature of the S3's launch and the vast amount of pre-orders it's had already, Samsung is likely going to have something of a challenge on its hands to appease those who've put their money down already -- and as we've seen from the Galaxy S2's Ice Cream Sandwich delays, Samsung fans can get pretty angry.

What does that mean if you have pre-ordered the blue model? Well, neither my insider contact nor Samsung has been able to state firmly what will happen, but it's likely that the limited number of blue phones will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. If you excitedly put your money down as soon as the pre-orders opened, you might just be in with the chance of having one in your hand by the weekend.

If not, it's possible that you'll be stuck with a 'delayed' sticker, and an apology if you're lucky. If the delays continue, Samsung might offer white models (which haven't suffered the same issues) to customers instead.

I've reached out to Samsung, asking the company to clarify exactly what the stock situation means for UK customers and I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I hear back. As we saw with the ICS updates though, Samsung doesn't seem too keen to openly discuss any troubles it's having, so I'm not getting my hopes up for a full and frank statement.

i spoke to orange uk yesterday and they said they have a 10 day delay on white handset and a 21 day (said officially its a 28 day delay but thats just to cover theyre back if it takes longer than the 21 day delay) on the blue handset also stated that they have had 45,000 pre-orders alone on the s3

Yeah. Pre ordered my blue s3 as soon as it was available on vodafone. Got an e mail literally 30 mins ago from Vodafone saying due to a shipping problem there will be some delays and it might be anywhere between 2 -4 weeks. Not impressed at all. :(

Pre-ordered the white 32gb as an upgrade with Vodafone and have received an email to say there are delays with the 32gb white version as well. Same 2-4 weeks wait. Therefore, not only is blue versions affected, but also the 32gb versions.

agree with the above two comments.....i have waited for my s3 for almost 23 days and another week or two is no deal breaker as long as i get the blue version....anyone thinking of cancelling the order should think again because you probably will regret it after 2-3 weeks when your either holding an HTC one X or 4s....

Just had my 2-4 weeks email from vodaphone. Is it a colour problem or a reaction to all the reviews complaining about poor build quality. The grade of plastic used in the back panel came in for special criticism. Maybe they're changing it. Let's hope so as my iPhone is bombproof but I prefer android.

I have pre ordered the blue S3, spoke to orange today they said it should be delivered by thursday or friday, if it's not here by friday I'm cancelling it, already unhappy with the cost of the line rental with orange and the fact that it'll probably have orange branding all over it, phones4u offer the same phone on same contract but with free accessories and no branding, if I'm gonna have to wait anyway might as well get the better handset (I hate carrier specific branding - please stop doing it!)

samsung have confirmed that the case is a polycarbonate case (polycarbonate is stronger, usable in a wider temperature range and more expensive) so people saying they do not like the plastic feel, what they are actually saying is they do not like the expensive polycarbonate feel and like the cheep plastic on the sgs2 better (hhhuuummm go figure)

Hi, I was just on the phone to the carphone warehouse and was told that all of the Samsung galaxy s3 blue models had been recalled to Samsung due to a manufacturing defect on the back cover. The adviser stated that this was for all the uk and they dont know when they will receive their stock.

I pre-ordered the blue version from carphonewarehouse a few weeks ago; upon hearing about the delay's yesterday I rang them to ask if I could change my order to the white version. They said that this would be no problem and an hour later I had an email confirming that my phone had been dispatched to my local store for collection.

I would have preferred the blue Galaxy S3, but will happily live with the white one. I agree with comments made regarding Samsung's recent blunders, this does not reflect well on them as a supposedly 'industry leading' company.

Just spoke to an o2 store in Scotland and they said that they wouldn't have any of this phone (white or blue) in stock tomorrow for the launch date and neither would any of the other stores in the city. For people who didn't want to pre-order and to not be able to walk into a store on the launch date and get one I think is really silly. Samsung, sort it out. I'm not trying to get a phone from a tiny shop in the middle of nowhere, I am trying to get it from a large city with at least 8 o2 stores and none of them have it for the launch date.

Got the same txt from three this morning, phoned them and they say it's still being delivered tomorrow, but I'm not holding much hope!
I ordered at about 10 am on may 4th, day after announcement, as soon as three started taking pre-orders, so I should be one of the early ones.
Trouble is, I haven't heard of even one person who has had concrete confirmation that their blue s3 will be delivered tomorrow, has anyone else???

Big mess up on Samsungs part. I feel they may have a lot of people getting the One X instead, or waiting for the iPhone 5. This isn't the first time they have messed up on a big launch. The same thing happened with the roll out of ICS for the S2.

Just called Three as I've had no text or indication about a delay. The guy said it would definitely be with me on Friday, even after I mentioned that the delay was official. I only ordered it a week ago but he said that everyone who had ordered before yesterday would be getting theirs this week. I'm not sure why he'd be so confident if it wasn't the truth.

i was one of the first 1000 to order a phone from cpw, they said they do not have the blue s3, they do not know when it is coming in and if i switch to the white one it may be next week for delivery any way. it is not the fault of cpw or any other provider. it is only samsungs fault for not testing their devices prior to launch. this may just be a scam to get more popularity however they should get sued if this is the case. companies now days make more money than banks, they should be held responsible for misleading products and services along with release dates. shameful samsung just shameful.

I had actually rang three earlier today to ask about changing delivery address and they said the order was still classed as unfulfilled meaning they physically hadn't received the stock to be able to provide a tracking code

But when I ran them this afternoon (2:00pm), the indian operator was adamnet that I will receive my blues s3 tomorrow as I had ordered the phone on 5th May.
Since then I have noticed this may not be true due to all the chatter on the internet, I again phoned three and asked the same question, the same answer was produced. I have also noticed on their twitter page that all blue s3 have been delayed. Not sure who to believe the operator or their twitter page.

I went to Carphone Ware House today, the guy told me that I have three options:
1. Cancel my pre-order
2. Swap for the White one and ill get it in store tomorrow
3. Wait and get loads of freebies thanks to my patience!

I have been waiting for this phone since February..a few more days.. :)

I got a text from Carphonewarehouse on the 24th telling me I could collect the phone today. Yesterday they sent another text telling me the blue phone was not available and to ring them.
I rang and was told the blue phone would not be available for 2-3 weeks. I have changed my order to a white phone and should be collecting it tomorrow.

I can't believe the number of people who can't wait for the colour they really want. You'll have this phone for 2 years minimum, so why not wait two weeks to get the version you like? I imagine a lot of them will regret it when this gets sorted out soon. It just shows what an impatient culture we have - we must have everything right now.

Still, they aren't as ridiculous as those getting a totally different phone because of a two week delay. That's hilarious.

I don't keep my phones for 2 years. I buy them SIM free and change them when a model I want comes out. I am currently using an S2 and will be selling my iPhone 4 to fund almost half the cost of the S3.

Went into an O2 store today and they said their official launch date for the S3 is Friday so to go back in then and they'll have them in stock. They didn't mention anything about the blue one so I assume they are still hoping to have them in stock as I would of thought they would have mentioned if they were only getting white. Yeah it is frustrating but it will be alot simpler for people to just stick to the Blue handset as with Three if you want to swap to the White one you have to cancel the Blue contract & take out a new one for the White LOL ALOT of messing around... Exactly what I'm doing - my mate is buckling under the pressure and is thinking of just getting a white one instead. We've waited a good while for this phone, two weeks won't kill us! The only people who will happily sacrifice the version they really want are the posers who want to be seen with it in the first week of release. I'm just not that smug!

Apparently from what im reading on the Web there is a limited supply due to be shipped on the 5TH & they are for people who have pre-ordered them through phone companies on a first reserve first serve basis... From what i can gather people wanting to buy the Blue handset outright have a long wait infront of them. Ive taken to looking on the net for updates instead of spending hours on the phone to Three lol alot less hassle!

Regarding the delays in the 32GB white model of up to 2-4 weeks, just got a call from the Vodafone store to say it has now been delivered and ready to pick up. I reckon Vodafone was worried about not getting the phone sooner, so informed all customer who pre-ordered the white 32gb it would be a 2-4 week wait earlier in the week.

Received an email from CFW this morning....my BLUE S3 has been dispatched for delivery so I must be one of the few lucky ones.
The courier doesn't deliver on Saturdays though, so I'm expecting to take delivery next Wednesday 6th....

I have also had an email today to say my blue S3 will be dispatched next working day and delivered the next working day after that. That means it should be here on thursday, but could have been earlier if it wasn't a bank holiday weekend.
Have to say, if this turns out to be accurate, my blue S3 has only been delayed by 1 week and now I have the bonus of one month's free on my contract (from phones 4 u).
Delays are invetiable particularly with a great phone whose demand has been extreme both on pre-orders but also on release.
I have found the impatience of many quite amusing. Was it really worth the hassle of ringing, complaining, switching contracts, getting a different colour to the preference, still thus not getting the phone on release date?
The rest of us sat patiently, even enjoying finding out the initial reactions to the phone upon release and relieved to find that for most the phone is living up to the hype, so now we can smugly wait for our colour preference and a fantastic phone!

Just rang Three still saying they don't know when the phone will be available on their network :( Still saying 2-3 weeks!! I hope they get it soon walked past Phones4u this afternoon and saw the White one on show felt a pang of jealousy LOL

Three sent me a text yesterday saying they didn't have an update from Samsung and nothing had changed. Hopefully though, and fingers crossed, it sounds like phones are starting to trickle in judging by the comments above. Still, I suppose it remains to be seen which networks will get them first and what the quantities are like. I didn't pre-order mine until 21 May, so I'll be near the back of the queue.

It'd be great if people who get them could update us on here - I've searched for a few places for news on their availability and it seems a lot of sites either dont know or have now forgotten about the blue model.

I've received an email this afternoon saying my order has been dispatched from carphone warehouse and were given a tracking code which takes me to yodel but the status still says "Parcel data received awaiting coll." but the date changed from 19/5/12 to 2/6/12, i were within the 1st 1000 people to pre order so this could also be the tablet getting sent instead, I hope it's the phone though! It seems like this is the only place people are talking about their orders atm, i cant find anywhere else where others are tracking their orders with one another.

Orange only let me know they didn't have a blue one for me three days ago and are stating six to eight months before they will have any blue ones.

We're waiting for the blue one as that's the colour we have ordered it in! If they're not able to offer us the blue samsung galaxy, they better start giving us a lot more freebies with the white one instead... not happy!!

I'm one of the 1000 getting tab and blue phone been told its on its way Probs thursday like others say although local CPW say it might be in shop on Tuesday (optimists). I've been told(national phone line, not store) my tab wont be shipped until wed so maybe a week more to wait for that. Getting excited now Glad I ordered on 3rd May means I get one of the first Blues, Probs means I'll be one of the first to find the faults with it (I always get faults/ omissions on 1st revisions).

I ordered the blue S3 on 25th May and called Orange on the 2nd June to find out whether they would be effected by the blue delay. It was confirmed and I was told I was better off waiting for the blue not changing to the white and to help with the delay I could have two months free line rental. Im in UK.
I am happy to wait now.

I haven't received an email but when I rang phones4u to discuss error with price plan they asked if I had received handset when I stated there was a delay she told me phone had been despatched and gave me a tracking number so was a bonus wasn't expecting that.

My friend was told this morning his blue S3 was waiting at a Three store for him. I ordered the same day (earlier than him actually) but through the phone and I've had no word. Sounds like this first-come-first-served system really works.

ordered the S3 blue with orange. Told I would have it between the 3-6th June. Rang yesterday after promised delivery - was told by orange that the phone will not be with me for at least 30 days! they are blaming a fault with the phone and samsung have recalled them all. Has anyone else been told the same? SOOOO not AMUSED!!!!!!!!!

I have been told different things by Orange but did manage to get two months free line rental because of delay. The woman I spoke to yesterday kept insisting that it was because the blue was so popular that it sold out despite the fact I preordered on the first day you could with Orange. For some reason Orange are really discouraging customers from switching to the white one. She came up with some complicated answer about how it was 30 days from the day you ordered and if I ordered white now it would take just as long even though they are advertising the white as in stock on their website. Bottom line the people answering the phones dont know anything but just tell you to wait for a message from the couriers.

I received an email last week frm orange customer services saying they aim to dispatch my order of s3 blue within 24hrs!!. Then 24 hrs later still no phne! Got phne call frm orange an hr ago saying theres a 30 day wait!!!!!!!!!!! Am not happy!!!!!!! . They just keep fobbing us off getting our hopes up with thier promising emails!. Im a patient person but even im beginning to get a little p..... Off!

Pre-ordered a Blue s3 on 19th May - still not had any contact from orange! Will hang on as tried a white one in store (after release date) - def worth it! Concerned at the lack of contact though...

Had a text to say phone arriving in 3-4 days from Orange. I also had one from the upgrades department asking me if I was enjoying my new phone! Be interested to hear if anyone has actually got one from Orange yet?

Im still waiting for mine to turn up, i pre-ordered it last month and still havent heard anything, was told it would be here by the end of last week, and it wasnt, so i phoned today to see what the hell was going on, and i was told that they have them im stock but i might have to wait up to 30 days for delivery, seriously not impressed, im paying for a phone that i havent got, think im going to have to phone them back and have more of a winge and see if they will give me a couple of months free line rental like others have got! grrrrrrrrrr pi***d off

Orange are a joke. They phoned me to say they were going to let me upgrade early (bout a month and a half) they were gonna wave the fee, reduce my bill and let me have the Galaxy S3. Well two and a half weeks later. Nothing!!!! No contact, no phone. No nothing. All im reading is people are getting their pebble blue ones on various networks and after numerous calls to Orange customer services and numerous different stories from them im still none the wiser as to when im going to get my phone. I reckon they only let me upgrade so id stay with them. Now im tied in with them for another poxy 2 years!!!!!! Has anyone got their phones from Orange after upgrading through them?????

i placed my order on the 28th with orange and got a text saying it would be delivered within 3-5 days but so far nothing (its been 4days since i received that text message)

Just got an e-mail from Orange saying the pebble blue is now in stock. Lets see if i get a text about delivery!!!!! Ill keep you posted!
