Samsung Galaxy S3, iPhone problems revealed by huge survey

I got 99 problems and my phone is one. Whether it's the battery, the screen or the volume, it seems every new smart phone has something wrong with it. A new report has gathered together the top complaints about the iPhone, Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Nokia Lumia 900, HTC Titan 2 and the BlackBerry Curve 9300, along with handy solutions.

Tech support site FixYa has compiled common complaints about the big phones to see what's been going wrong with them -- although it doesn't reveal which phone is the borkiest. Have you encountered any of these complaints?

The Samsung Galaxy S3 has only been around for 5 minutes, but it seems phone fans have already had problems with the microphone -- a problem also plaguing the Galaxy Nexus. Owners complain that they're unable to hear people on a call, and when they hang up, signal can disappear for minutes at a time. The only solution is to update the firmware or restore the phone to minty-fresh factory settings -- which wipes all your data.

The main complaint about the iPhone 4S is the battery life, a gripe that can be solved by turning off location services, push notifications, Siri, Wi-Fi, screen brightness... basically, all the things that make a phone a smart phone. That's the problem with these fancy Dan smart phones: as a smart man once said, "The light that burns twice as bright burns for half as long, and you have burned so very, very brightly, Roy."

Two phones running Windows Phone software are included in the report. Nokia's Lumia 900 frustrates users with a weird purple tint to the screen  -- now solved by an update -- and a camera button that doesn't wake the phone for quick snapshots.

BlackBerry Curve owners also complain about their phone suddenly rebooting at random times.

Other phones to suffer snafus include the HTC One X, which suffers from a flexing screen and Wi-Fi issues; the HTC One S, which chipped at the back; and the iPhone 4, subject of the iPhone death grip -- the daddy of disasters.

Has your battery broken? Is your screen shot? Have you had any problems with your phone? Tell me your thoughts in the comments or on our Facebook page.

Has anyone noticed, when its is a favorable article the 'iphone' is written before 'Samsung Galaxy' vice versa when it is a problem one.

I got a Galaxy s3 (for me) and a iphone 4s (for my girlfriend) within a day of each other. so far the s3 has been great, absolutely no problems- battery lasts for 2 days, something id never found with any other smart phone. the iphone has had a temperamental problems with the microphone, works fine on speaker phone , but not normally. this has strangely fixed itself now. the battery is better than her old 3gs, but still nothing on the galaxy s3

Home screens on my SGS III often get stuck and wont respond to touch, though notification bars and menu still works. Restarting doesn't fix it and the only thing to do is do a factory reset on the phone. Hate it so much I'm considering rooting and putting different software on it.

The HTC one X's battery is amazing! I can now get a full days usage out of it with no problems now!

The HTC ONE X doesn't suffer from Wifi problems at all, i've never had any problem's with mine and the screen doesn't flex, half of em must be making these so called problems up.

I had a iPhone 4 when the so-called death grip hype was going on and I never suffered from reduced signal no matter how I held it. I think the signal loss was mostly carrier related eg AT&T.

I was using Telstra for that phone, covers 99% of the country.

I am using a SG3 now and I don't have any of the problems listed above,

Since last one month, I am using Galaxy S3 and never faced any problems...It is a super smart phone and indeed working without any issues.

My One x suffers from none of the above problems, I can get 3 days battery out of it if im conservative (Leaving WiFi and mobile data off, regular texts and calls with the odd facebook check) yet CNET continually put it down due to its poor battery life, flexing screen and Wifi problems which have only been experienced on a very small % of devices.

I can't believe how dim the screen on my Samsung Galaxy S3 is in Google driven videos (all) yet it's quite bright and nice when running youtube videos. In Google, the brightness AND resolution seems worse than on my Droid X--as much as I dislike resigning to Verizon's limits in its "Share Everything (such as my money), I may have to return this phone, eat my $30 upgrade fee and get my Droid X reactivated...

Just a little comment to add my ten pence worth. Recently 'upgraded' to sgs3 after seeing all the positive reviews from some top tech sites. Yeah, I played around with some store demo models first and was blown away by the silky smoothe transitions and speed at which it seemed to run, screen etc.
To say i've just had the most frustrating 3 weeks of my life is not understated.
Firstly, I could barely make calls due to the party on the other end not hearing me. Before any response is made, this was my second s3 after much technical advise. The stock keyboard is horrific, my browser kept freezing along with flash player troubles. The sound while connected to any auxiliary device (although good) was so poorly amplified and I couldn't get a html phone no to the dialer without copying it to the clipboard first.
Nothing about the phone was intuitive and being that I was close to getting stuck in a two year contract with a phone that just wasn't fit for purpose, I opted for a HTC one x because it was the closest spec.
Now I know transitions are not as smooth and for sure the battery does not last as long but I can reassure you I have no other reason to complain and finally I feel as if I have purchased a high end phone that I am very happy with.
As for those transitions, if you turn off animations in developer options (a setting I don't remember seeing available on the s3) the whole thing seems much more fluid. Oh, and thank those, wonderful dev guys at HTC for sense.

P.s. Samsung guys were as helpful as could be expected but no one could resolve my primary concern over call quality which left me with only one choice. Sorry guys. Maybe that delay should have lasted one month longer.

I have a Samsung s3 and I really have to mention the problems that I am having with it so. Because firstly I would like to know if it's not just me. Secondly because it's annoying. When I have incoming calls from people, I have heard them say that they cant hear me properly, that I sound like a dalek. Also the user on the line can hear all the different sounds like the water drop effect and battery low warmings, in fact sounds that I don't want them to hear because I do have important calls and this case it were friends. Secondly I tether the phone up to the pc with the USB cable. OK this works fine until i take the lead out and the tether box becomes deactivated. The only way i can get the USB box in tether settings to light up again is by re-plugging it into the computer, shutting it down until it reboots. Why I'm writing this here, is because I don't know how I'm suppose to report these issues and I came across this article on the net.. But other than these annoying things I do like the phone. The calls problem is really bad though!!

I have lost sound from the S3 headphones, either the original Samsung,or a pair of Apple iPod ones, when I try to hear at a Radio Station. Also,I see on the screen, that the device, does not "see" the phones.
When from the other hand,I try to speak to somebody, the other people's voice, comes from the speaker phone, and not from the inserted headphones.

I have recently upgraded to an HTC One X after having to return my old Samsung Galaxy Ace for WiFi problems 6 times... That's right, 6 times... Well guess what, I have had 2 different brand new handsets of the HTC One X and both have had the same fault. the GPS signal would have me driving down the road at 30 mph while I stood on my driveway... then I would jump to a road 100 yards away... Now I'm getting a Samsung S3 but frankly I don't hold much faith that the phone will work without problems. These handsets cost up to £450 and we're being fed a load of cheap rubbish... Someone's getting rich off it... It certainly isn't me...

If anyone has a problem with the phone speaker, this was very useful for me
the mic problem during calls is easily solved. You click phone icon, then go into settings and additional settings? and untick the noise reduction box, that is causing all the problems. After that during call you will be fine.
