Samsung Galaxy S2 and S sales hit 50m, 7m Notes flogged

Sales of shiny Samsung gadgets remain strong, with the Korean company shifting over 50 million Galaxy S and S2 mobiles to date, The Verge reports.

Samsung's also managed to flog a whopping 7 million Galaxy Notes so far. That's an increase of 2 million since the end of March, and is enough Notes to build a full-scale ancient Egyptian pyramid. Probably.

Samsung Galaxy S sales figures now stand at 24 million, while the monumentally popular Galaxy S2 has shifted 28 million units. That's 52 million blowers in total, an increase of 22 million since October last year, when Samsung claimed it had flogged 30 million Galaxy S and S2s in total.

These numbers likely represent the total units that Samsung itself has shipped out, rather than the number of phones humans have actually purchased -- there could be millions on warehouse and shop shelves -- but the sky-high figures are proof that when it comes to Android, Samsung is dominating.

The Galaxy Note has been a surprise hit, with many critics (myself included) not expecting the 5.3-inch stylus-sporting behemoth to prove particularly popular with shoppers. Its massive ad campaign has clearly struck a chord.

The Galaxy S3 is on sale now, so it'll be interesting to see if it can live up to the success of its predecessors. Early signs are positive, with Carphone Warehouse recently pegging the quad-core monster as the fastest-selling pre-order phone of the year. Troubling news of launch delays could mar its debut however.

It feels to me like the race for smart phone domination is now between Samsung and Apple, with all the other companies languishing far, far behind. Apple's gadgets are still performing frighteningly well -- it sold 37 million iPhones in the last 14 weeks of 2011.

Can Apple impress for a sixth time with its upcoming iPhone? Or is the Californian company's smart phone star on the wane? Let me know who you think will be on top this time next year in the comments or on our Facebook wall.

Thank god you managed to get an iPhone mention in at the end, I thought for one dreaded moment you had published an article on Samsung without getting one in!

"Can Apple impress for a sixth time with its upcoming iPhone?" - that suggests a that apple impressed everyone with the iphone 4s, which, let's be honest, it didn't, "disappointed" is a better word than impressed, for the 4s

Lol. So true.

CNET UK clearly unable to publish any articles on Samsung, let alone Android, without mentioning either the iPhone or iOS.

I think there is still such a strong bias against the note. In your article it is not just advertising it is also the fact that it is such a good product. I had a Galaxy s2 which I loved and came to the end of my contract I had a good look at the S3 which I think is great but I decided for the G note in the end and am so happy I did

In an article about sales figures surely it's completely appropriate to talk about the biggest competitor, the iPhone. I have no idea why you people throw in these useless 'CNET are biased' comments, if you think that go to one of the many other tech sites for your fix. Each author will have a bias towards something as they are human, its your job as a reader to filter the information appropriately for you.

"its your job as a reader to filter the information appropriately for you." It really isn't the readers job to filter out bias.

Yes it is, no one is ever completely impartial.

I've had every version of the iPhone since it's launch. I remember frantically running to the o2 store to get the first one and spending fortunes buying out of contracts every time a new one hit the store.

However, I am now at a point where with Apple I find myself wanting after every new release. It [iOS] no longer features anything new or inspiring. It's all much of a muchness with apple, which in turn results in disappointment :-( Just wish they would stop screwing customers over by charging for everything and allow us a little more freedom to customise our iPhones.

Although I can't fault the camera or ease and reliability of use of the iPhone 4S, just fed up with it. [sorry apple] That said, I am a little reticent to make the switch to android, as my Motorola Xoom Tablet was constantly crippled by buggy apps and OS. I've had a play on the Samsung Galaxy Note and a working Galaxy S3 and I'm afraid Apple have lost a customer. S3 for me please :-) I juts hope the ICS OS lives up to the hype that the android community has built up.

After using my Galaxy Note 5.3in for browsing the internet, videos etc. As a curiosity I tried the new GSIII in one Vodafone store, it looked to me a fantastic phone, but with a rather small screen in comparison with my Note..jeje ...Samsung, noughty business!!.. you have spoiled me forever and so far has gladly spoiled more than 7 million people around the world. I am convinced my new phone in the future will be Galaxy Note 2 with better resolution, better battery, more than 2 gb Ram, Quad core and other perks!!... Congratulations Samsung!!

I would love to know how this compares to the sales of the TOP HTC devices?
