A follow-up to the Galaxy Note is rumoured to be landing in October, to compete with Apple's new iPhone, reports from MK Business News suggest.
Industry sources allegedly disclosed details of the smart phone sequel, with the Galaxy Note 2 tipped to launch running Android Jelly Bean and touting an even larger screen.
Yes, you read that right -- the already-ludicrous 5.3-inch display is pegged for expansion, which means it'll double as a sledge when the winter comes, and a tray to carry the turkey on come Christmas Day.
That larger screen could use a new display tech too. The report makes mention of an 'unbreakable plane' (UBP) display, which is supposedly a precursor to the flexible display we're all dreaming of, and will make for a skinnier device overall.
Longer battery life and a more robust frame are among other purported new goodies, along with a quad-core processor.
The Galaxy Note has been a surprise hit, with Samsung recently boasting that it had shipped 7 million of the monolithic mobiles -- an increase of 2 million since the end of March.
Plenty of people are keen on massive phones, it seems. I've seen some people complaining about the design of the rounded Galaxy S3, but hardly any grumpiness regarding its palm-filling 4.8-inch display.
As for the Galaxy Note 2, it's best to take any speculative specs with a handful of salt. But I'd be flabbergasted if Samsung didn't release a follow-up to the Note -- after all, the company loves sequels, and it likes making lots and lots and lots of different phones.
Would you be interested in a Galaxy Note sequel? What's the largest screen size you'd consider pocketing? Let me know in the comments or on our Facebook wall.

Big. I like big. I am big, 6'7" and 18 stone with hands like buckets, so big is good. But what is too big? Anything under 4" is way too small, but even I would struggle to cope with anything bigger than the current Galaxy Note.

Surely if it's bigger it will literally just become a small tablet that can make phone calls?

I think that your reporting with regards to the Note is consistently biaised. I currently have the note and decided to get it instead of the GS3 and I am so happy with it. The main decision factors were size and the S-pen functionality. The GS3 wins on power and on some of the software extras but I have not come accross any device that is as versitile as the NOTE.
I can only imagine what they will do to a NOTE 2. Since the original was more of an exploration or experiment and they now realise that the experiment has paid of.
With regards to the size of a NOTE2 they maybe be able to get a little extra through redesign possible upto 5.5 inches. Which I would definitely go for.

I like as long the price won't be like iphone too expensive never the less function and the quality is same...

If Samsung want to pummel the iphone from both angles(S3 & GN2) then what they need to do imho is: Have the screen be Amoled + with a dppi matching the Xperia S', 2ghz dual core or a 1.8 quad,2gb ram,a seriously heavy duty battery and all the cool features of the SIII added to the already great features on the Note, high quality optics on an 8mp camera and i'd be interested. No need for it to be bigger as, as it is it is already pushing the limits of portability of a phone....IF they were indeed to make it bigger it would have to be as thin as tracing paper and as light as a feather and no doubt something i have listed above would have to give and the obvious one from that lot is the battery.
A Non Mouse.

I honestly feel that iphone and even Samsung Galaxy S2 are way too small after using my Galaxy note. I am an average size but with larger than average hands. So no problems there. So, I'd say that 5.3" or around that is perfectly OK.

I'm hoping for a 5.5 inch screen, hopefully keeping the same physical size or making it just a hair bigger. I'd expect the inside specs to be on par with the SG3 if not a little better. If I get all this or close to it, I'll be pre-ordering it as soon as possible!

I love my note but....
When will manufacturers realise that we don't want THINNER we want a battery that lasts LONGER!
I would be happy with a 12+mm phone that last two days.
Makes me angry!

To me and my big hands, the Galaxy Note is perfect. It actually looks normal to someone with big hands...But Im still gonna get either a One X or S3, because October is far away.

Well The quad core processor used in the S3 can fit into the chip socket of the Note without changes, so definately going to have the same chipas the S3, which we know thumps everything else out there right now.
Having below average eyesite 5.5" would be right on the mark for me too.
had been pondering the note but poor battery lfe made me pause, then I heard about the new chip half the battery drain but battery for 2x power increase, I'll wait a few more months sure.

I've had a Note for a couple of months now, and I guess I always knew this would happen... I bought my Note for screen size, yes, the pen, yes... but also for the display quality.
I agree with a lot of the comments above that battery life is a big question - it's not BAD on the Note, but there's room for improvement. Otherwise... would I go Note again? You betcha.
I ditched my 3rd iPhone, the 4, in its favour, and this still feels like the right choice.

Big is beautiful and I love my Note as it is right now with a ever lasting battery.
But if the new Note II offers the new more power efficient Xynos quadcore and 2GB of ram like the S III that would be awesome and I'm going to buy one for sure!
And I settle for a unbrakeable screen of course ;)
Oh please Samsung, let it be a very early Christmass.

IMHO, it is internet access rapidly becoming identified as an essential mobile accoutrement to modern life that is driving user preferences towards larger-screened devices. With the Note, Samsung delivered a step-change in functionality over any other in the mini-tablet/phone category, carried along by their developments with Android and their own screen technology. I would question whether the market segment that have adopted this form-factor as their own actually do 'pocket' it, or carry it in a breifcase or other such accessory.
Bluetooth audio and telephony control devices, both in-car and wearable, are so widely-used nowadays that it is simply not tenable to brand the Note as 'too large' for a phone. Quite simply, people are now so much more sophisticated in the way they are using the available technology. Using the excellent in-built speakerphone it can also be used as a compact hands-free deskphone.
I, personally, find the combination of lightness and design restraint at the 5.3" limit ergonomically manageable even, momentarily, one-handed. I suspect that Samsung did not arrive at this point purely by accident or chance - rather by much discussion and experimentation. By contrast, Sony's PS Vita is cumbersome and definitely a two-handed effort, as is BlackBerry's 7" PlayBook. I am a 6ft 2", large-handed male (lucky enough to own all three, and Experia S - a real BobbyDazzler and INCREDIBLE, BTW!) and, personally, whilst I feel that a 5.75" screen would move it into a different form-factor category, I would not be averse to a 0.2" or 0.3" tweak, not neccessarily also increasing the overall casing size.
To remain ahead in an extremely competitive, fast-moving market (which gives every indication of being on steroids right now) Samsung have no option but to incorporate the quad-core - and this is really the only progression that will ensure that I do not desert the platform and that Note 2 goes on my 2012 Christmas list.

Definitely buying a Note 2. My upgrade is due in August but I'll hold on till October or later if it does drop this year. I went to China last year and saw everyone with this behemoth of a phone and I knew I needed one. Nice memory upgrade will be appreciated. The bigger the better I say when it comes to web browsing and multimedia. It'll be like having the biggest **** lol. Just pull out my note and be like ''yeah, I know I'm turning heads right now''

There is really no competition.
Smaller screen, less RAM, less cores, slower cores, no pressure sensitive stylus, no microSD support, non-removable battery and none of the S-features like S-stay, etc.
I Fail to see anything revolutionary.
At best, the iPhone 5 will just be ordinary with the current rumoured specs. The Apple team got to really pull up their socks if they want to make a dent to the sales volume of the Note 2 this coming end of the year holiday season.
iPhone is quickly becoming irrelevant. This is clear as Apple have to rely more and more on injunctions, not innovations to compete with the likes of Galaxy S3, Tab and the Note 2.
If the injunctions fails to stop the sales, Apple can always borrow Elop from Microsoft and send him to Seoul to be the next Samsung CEO.
Maybe, just maybe the Koreans won't notice where he's been and done...he he he !
