Samsung Galaxy Note 2 could be 'surprise' coming 15 August

Stand by for a new Samsung Galaxy... something. Samsung has notified US press that it will make a 'major announcement' on 15 August. Will it be the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, or something else?

A follow-up to the popular Samsung Galaxy Note tablet is hotly anticipated. A new version of the 5-inch oversized phone / mini-tablet / 'phablet' is expected to have a bigger screen, and could be powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Come to think of it, if Samsung were to announce dates for all Samsung Galaxy devices that would be pretty cool.

Another possibility is a new Galaxy Tab tablet. As long as the new device doesn't incorporate any of the technology disputed by Apple in the patent war currently raging between the two companies in courtrooms around the world, that is.

Of course, it could also be something hellaciously dull, like a new app or cloud service or partnership deal or something.

The Note was expected to be unveiled at the end of August at IFA, the annual technology blow-out wherein manufacturers descend on Berlin to unveil their wares for the rest of the year. CNET will be there in force, bringing you up-to-the-minute news, previews and videos of all the coolest new kit.

Whatever the folks at Samsung reveal, they'll no doubt have their fingers crossed for another smash hit like the Note or the Samsung Galaxy S3. The S3 has already sold 10 million phones in just a few weeks on sale. Hey, maybe the announcement will be those new colours for the S3 we've been promised!

What should Samsung launch in a couple of weeks? What's missing from the Galaxy lineup? Tell me your thoughts in the comments or on our Facebook page.

It's nothing to do with phones. It's actually a tablet announcement

I cant wait to get my hands on this one. My Iphone 4G contract is about to run out begining of August, Great timing:) I have had 3 gen's of iphone's, played around with the Note the other day and ound it excellent for owsing, android is just amazing. The new Note 2 specs so far looks amazing, 12 meg camera 1080p screen, quod core, same size but larger screen the existing one. Hope the battery life is as good as the s3 and I think Samsung have got another winner on their hands:) ye, Bye Apple:)

Like I said in another review: I got a Note instead of an S3. Amazing photo quality already. Battery lasts much longer than an S1, S11 and a HTC HD Desire. I've just returned from Barcelona and took 226 photos in one afternoon and my battery was still at 76% afterwards. I'm extremely happy already and won't upgrade until any initial issues with a new version have been ironed out. And unlike an earlier reviewer, I know loads of people with the Note. It's seeing theirs which made me get one. My 78 year old father in law has just got one to replace his previous iphone as he likes the screen size and the quality photos.

The Note 2 could really do with being a bit larger. 32" would be ideal.
That would be really snazzy, with triple quad core Tegra cheaps and a giant AMALAD screen.
There would be space then for me to put a "Gaz and Sharon: sticker across the top of the screen; just like on my car. That'll look really cool. A bit of class!

My wife thinks the current model is too large though, but I haven't found it to be a problem. It easily fits in my car, no problem.
Mind you, I did buy a pair of those accessory clip-on wheels for carrying it to work. I'm getting less back pain so they must be worth it.

Have and always be an Apple fan, but however, I did not like the Galaxy SII or the III, but the Note is actually pretty cool.

I'm pretty interested in the Note 2 but I doubt I'd like to ever want to hold it to my face to make a call as I reckon I'd look like a complete prat. Do people with current gen 'Notes' just use bluetooth headsets or wired headphones to make calls? Are there any companion devices that are just very small bluetooth handsets to use as your phone? if these were integrated into a case, I would buy the Note 2 straight away. (if there's none out yet, that's MY idea thanks)
