Samsung Galaxy Altius watch interface leaked in screenshots

It's not just Apple building a wristwatch -- Samsung could be working on a watch too. The company behind the Samsung Galaxy S3 wants to put the power of Galaxy phones and tablets on your wrist.

Screenshots have emerged on Korean site Ruliweb of a scrunched-up square interface that suggests the face of a watch. With Apple and Intel rumoured to have 100 designers working on the project nicknamed iWatch, could Samsung be following suit?

The leaked screenshots purport to come from a device codenamed Project Altius, although that name has previously been attached to the hotly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S4. Perhaps the watch is an accessory for the S4, in the same way the Galaxy Note 2 comes with an S Pen stylus?

Assuming they're actually real, the screenshots show Windows Phone-style tiles for a music app, an email app and what looks like a map icon. Something resembling a scroll bar at the bottom presumably allows you to swipe across to other icons, while a Wi-Fi icon at the top suggests a data connection.

Oh, and it tells the time too.

Watches that talk to your phone, saving you the bother of fetching your blower from your pocket, have been talked about for a while. But recently we've seen some decent attempts to fulfil your Dick Tracy-inspired chronometer cravings, such as the Kickstarter-funded Pebble E-ink watch

Do you think the Samsung smart watch is real? Would you wear a high-tech timepiece? Is a phone watch just a gimmick, or can Samsung make it work? Watch your language in the comments, or on our wristy Facebook page.

To the anonymous @19:41

By your logic, Apple will get sued by Sony then

To the previous comment by Apple logic that smartwatch never existed it was their idea first. Just like everything else that have a patent for previous devices dont matter.

so Samsung is copying Apple; who are copying Pebble who are copying Sony who are copying...

How come other sites have details about the apple watch when CNET leads with 'Samsung develops watch with next to nothing on earlier watches. Really CNET why not come out and rename yourself SamsNET? (saw the advertising revenue by supplier and I do understand why:)

yep, agree with the above. Cnet is becoming a Samsung advertiser. I've removed cnet apps for others that look at things from a customer perspective, not from a pro Samsung view.

And back to the actual story. The interface looks a little fiddly to me. It will be interesting to see if these smart watches really take off

I don't think the concept of a wrist watch is patentable, people will only start suing if specific tech is used. I want to see a pocket watch version!

I can't believe how seriously people took the first comment, definitely took the bait lol

It was a simple question.

Interesting observations re CNET sponsored by Samsung which is obvious to me now! That is the real challenge for CNET as it tries to remain balanced and fair in its reviews. I notice even on the review of the outstanding Sony Experia Z how CNET still sows seeds of doubt on the Experia in comparison to the forthcoming S4? I used to go to CNET first for all my gadget reviews but not any more. Impartiality is key in being a credible reviewer but as CNET is Samsung-influenced it will, itself, lose its readership, influence, advertising market and fall like the Palm OS!

My god, they just can't win, they show some Apple news and their announced to by Apple-Biased, they announce that Samsung are designing a smartwatch and they are Sammy-Biased. Just take it for what it is people, tech journalism, CNET covered the other items previously and gave the Xperia Z an astounding review!

Some of you make it sound like it's only zombies that read CNET and that people will buy whatever CNET says is good. At the end of the day, if you can't read past the personal prefererance of the journalist or editor then give it up already!

And back on subject, Sony, Pebble and Motorola have all made good smartwatch systems, so it'll be interested to see what Apple and Samsung can come up with, hopefully without any patent disputes this time ;)

@faddis23 are you mental, yes it was a simple question a bit like youself lol! I don't think anyone is getting sued I just wanted to spark a debate.

It was a simple question, bit like myself? Didn't finish school? Do you know how grammar works?

As for 'sparking a debate', you didn't manage to spark one. All you did was attempt to troll, while a few people questioned you. Nice bit of ignorance there from you, retard.

Trolling:

Being a prick on the internet

There you go, you retard. Hence, you're a troll, and the most ignorant one I have ever come across. Go back to school. As for calling me an idiot, you are obviously the dumbest retard on this website. Good day retard.

@faddis23 omg lmfao! You're very sensitive, is it just that time of the month? Now as for grammar and your excellent knowledge of it, I don't know if there is anything wrong with my grammar but then again I'm not the school obsessed, phrase copying knob asking people if they know anything about grammar, so you stated above 'didn't finish school?' That is not a question and 'it is a simple question, bit like myself?' If you can't figure that one out then you prove my claim of your simplicity. And to think you actually thought you were telling me what a troll is, ahh lmfao nuff said.

Stop trolling you f*cking dumb sh*t and piss off from this site.

You really are the lowest of the low here. Lack of an education. Clear trolling. Stupid comments. Nothing to offer. Losers like you need to be muzzled and then instituted. You're beyond pathetic with your sad comments that merely try and provoke people.

As for asking you whether you finished school or not, that isn't a question?

You're not retarded after all. You're beyond retarded.
