The Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 is available now from the admirable men and women of the Three network, bringing with it a 3.8-inch screen, a dual-core processor and a 5-megapixel camera for free on contracts from £22 per month.
For that 22 quid, you'll get the phone for free, along with 500 minutes, 5,000 texts and 250MB of data. That's only going to be enough data to check your email every so often, so I recommend going for the £27 per month plan -- that'll snag you 1,000 minutes, 5,000 texts and as much data as you can possibly get through.
A better alternative would be to buy the phone on pay as you go for £230. Then add a £15 month-by-month SIM for 3,000 texts, 300 minutes and unlimited data. That's a good system if you ever decide to back out of your contract or want to flog your new blower to get something new.
The 3.8-inch screen offers a resolution of 480x800 pixels. That's the same resolution as last year's excellent Galaxy S2, but it doesn't have the same Super AMOLED Plus technology, so don't expect it to be as bright or as vivid. The previous Ace offered only 320x480 pixels, so you can expect a much more crisp display on this new boy.
Under the hood is an 800MHz processor, which might not sound like much, but it's dual-core, so it should be able to tackle all your essential apps without having a heart attack. It won't be as blisteringly fast as the quad-core Galaxy S3 promises to be, but we found it to be perfectly nippy in our hands-on.
The Ace 2 doesn't sit right at the bottom of the bargain bin, so if you're really strapped for cash but still want Android smart phone features, you might want to check out the original Ace, which you can get for free from £13 per month.
What do you think of the Ace 2? Would it have a home in your pocket or are you saving your pennies for the supercharged S3? Let me know in the comments below or over on our Facebook page.

It'd be better to get it on the 100min, 5000 texts and unlimited data for £20 quid/month with the small upfront charge rather than jumping straight to the £27 a month plan

I bought this for my dad. I've had a problem with internal memory and can't install most items from Google Play store. I'm a Samsung fan owing an S2 and a S1 and am surprised with this. I will return to store.

Is an ICS update likely? My Galaxy S is full of bugs. Annoyingly these are bugs that had resolved themselves eventually and reappeared worse than ever when I updated to the 'value pack'. So I'm more than likely going to be pushed into buying a new phone (I got this on contract in December 2011, so, yeah, I'm far from happy about this). Truthfully I don't want stay with Samsung, but if the Ace 2 drops in price in half a year, which I'm sure it will, and means I can get an ICS handset with specs equal to or better than me Galaxy S, then I may consider.
Otherwise, I'll just hold out for the Nexus or SII to drop to £200ish, as the Galaxy S and Google Nexus S were priced at after one year.
On the other hand, Huaweii have a phone for around £150 (or is it less), that they've said will get an ICS update for in the summer, and runs a less bloated skin for Android. Could be just what I'd need to see me through until my upgrade in December 2013...

jopov123, I had exactly the same problem with the origional Ace. I think that Samsung deliberatly cripple it with pathetic application memory to make you buy the top end phone instead. This Ace was my second (and last) android phone. I now have an Iphone 4S.

It's a budget phone. Its rrp is, what? £300 less than the next phone up? What are people expecting with such a big difference in prices? The Ace's specs are equal to or better than anything else in its price range (at the time of release, and for quite a while after that).
You just cannot buy a budget phone and then complain that its specs don't compare well with a flagship.
What is it with people criticising Samsung for doing stuff that every other phone manufacturer makes. In fact, most of the time Samsung do those same things better than anyone else. It just seems immensely fashionable to criticise anything Samsung does right now.
