Carphone Warehouse has kicked off preorders of Nokia's enormous new flagship phone, the Lumia 1520. The 6-inch Windows Phone -- does that make it a Windows Phablet? -- is available from free on a hefty £38 per month Vodafone contract.
That bags you unlimited calls and texts, and 2GB of 3G data. The Lumia 1520 is 4G-ready, but if you want superfast mobile broadband the cheapest contract is £48 per month, with £20 up front. That does net you a pretty mighty 12GB of data, and you can opt to splash out £90 up front if you want a cheaper £44 monthly deal.
Carphone isn't selling it on any other network, or on pay as you go or SIM-free deals. Expect those to be available from other retailers soon.
There's no concrete release date, but Nokia has previously said its gigantic new blower would hit the UK by Christmas, along with its first tablet, the Lumia 2520. It's launched in France, Italy, Russia, Hong Kong and the US this week, and Nokia says it'll announce a UK release date on Monday.
So what are you getting for your £38 per month? There's that 6-inch screen, of course, with 1,920x1,080 pixels, making it capable of showing Full HD. It's powered by a beefy quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM. Windows 8.1 is running the show.
