Nokia N85: Yeah, it's basically the N79

One of the most fundamentally brilliant reasons for not being a steaming fat racist is that inside, we humans are all essentially the same. The same is true for many other things in life: animals, supermarket cola, and apparently Nokia N-series phones.

We just looked at the new N79 -- a handset with a 320x240-pixel screen, 5-megapixel camera, Carl Zeiss optics, Wi-Fi, GPS, stereo Bluetooth and 3.6Mbps HSDPA connectivity. Now it's time to look at the other new Nokia -- the N85 -- featuring a 320x240-pixel screen, 5-megapixel camera, Carl Zeiss optics, Wi-Fi, GPS, stereo Bluetooth and 3.6Mbps HSDPA connectivity.

Yup, we simply copy-pasted the specs. Sigh.

What's different? Well, not much. It looks different to the N79, with its dual-slider form factor, and seems to have a much better battery. But it's once again something of an evolutionary product instead of a revolutionary one.

We're not blind to the fact that it looks like a decent phone, though, and it'll undoubtedly appeal to anyone who needs a powerful handset. We're just desperate to see some real innovation in the mobile world, rather than just new chassis and bumped-up capacities and megapixels.

For Nokiaddicts, the N85 will land around October on unconfirmed networks, for unconfirmed prices, although we do know it'll sell SIM-free for €450 (£360). No doubt that'll be more like £450 when it goes through the typical British 'price boosting'. -Nate Lanxon
