Hoping to beat the journalistic tech orgy that is IFA later this week, Nokia has gone all George Michael on us, releasing its latest product into public view -- the N79.
It's another one of those all-singing, all-dancing quad-band phones from Finland -- you know, home of Lyijykomppania and Children Of Bodom -- rocking a 5-megapixel camera, Carl Zeiss optics, a secondary front-facing camera, 3.6Mbps HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS navigation, stereo Bluetooth, a 320x240-pixel screen, and you should get over five hours of chin wagging from a single charge.
The meagre 50MB of internal memory can be expanded with up to 8GB microSD cards for playback of MP3, WMA and AAC music files through the 3.5mm headphone socket (yes, Sony Ericsson, a standard headphone socket). And it's got an integrated FM transmitter for beaming music to your car stereo.
We're expecting a launch around October of this year, with prices and networks to be announced in the coming months.
The N79 is really just another example of evolution over revolution, and under the hood there's nothing going on that we wouldn't expect. But it's likely to be much sought after when it hits shops, particularly to those of you currently tethered to the N78. -Nate Lanxon
