Nokia Lumia X is a new twist on Windows Phone 8

The story of Nokia and Windows Phone takes another twist. At least, the Nokia Lumia X concept design features a cool twisty camera -- but whether it's real or not is another matter.

The Lumia X concept phone boasts a high-definition AMOLED display screen, a Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor and an 8-megapixel camera.

The software on the phone is Windows Phone 8, the next generation of Microsoft's software for mobile phones. Windows Phone 8 is expected to arrive in November, bringing a new customisable home screen.

Concept Phones quotes a source called Johnny who swears blind this is a real phone direct from Nokia's design lab, which will launch in September. It's possible ol' Johnny is bang on the money, but I'd be surprised if Nokia moves away from the sleek unibody aesthetic of the current Lumia line-up for such a gimmicky design.

That said, Nokia is yet to unveil the first Windows Phone with PureView technology, and it would be very cool if that was housed in a twisty design, reminiscent of ancient Nokias such as the N93.

PureView is Nokia's crazy camera technology, first seen on the Nokia 808 PureView. The 808 boasts a bonkers 41-megapixel camera and assorted photo options that are set to trickle down to the Lumia range at some stage.

Several manufacturers are in line to build Windows Phones, with leaks suggesting HTC will lead the way with the HTC Zenith, Accord and Rio phones.

Is this a neat twist on the Lumia range? Twist your melon in the comments or on our Facebook page.

Isn't that a Symbian menu button?

I really, really hope not. That's a hideous, very fat phone with a practically useless gimmick. Looks like someone photoshopped a phone from 2005...

Yeah uh that's a massive phone...talk about going backwards. It's these kind of decisions that are ruining Nokia.

I think they need to get some new product designers.

Having chatted with a Nokia R&D employee this is not a product that they are releasing.

I had always been a loyal supporter of Nokia. Then purchased a Nokia Lumia 800 only to find out that Nokia & Intel knowingly sold this product that it was doomed from the beginning and it will not be updated to Windows Phone 8 as I had been given to believe.
After this little episode of deception, I will never purchase any product from Nokia/Intel no matter what ......................would make me very very stupid to be bitten twice.

Nokia did not know that Window Phone 7 was going be doomed from the beginning; otherwise they would have launched their first devices until the initial release of Window Phone 8. Nokia has lost a lot of revenue in their Q2 financial results, which will make their Q3 even worse – from Microsoft’s developer conference announcement in June.

This was just very unfortunate for them, as Nokia was starting to push the WP7 market share. Remember, they are only a partner like Samsung, HTC and LG. If you look at Android – most of their top Gingerbread (v2.3.x) headset were not able to upgrade to the Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.x) update.

I don't doubt that this is a Nokia prototype - but it's not a recent one. They were putting out all kinds of weird stuff about 10 years ago, but now? Trying to release this now would kill Nokia off quicker than if an Olympic shot-putter caught them fooling around with his sister.

I don't know if it isn't obvious but that is just a photoshopped picture of a Nokia 5700 XpressMusic.

Even though the Nokia Lumia is great adding that sort of fat effect sort of brings you back to what you started with= Complete button mobile phones.

I would rate this 2/5

I think this is just a fake photo of those old nokia phones that looked similar like that. I forgot the name of them but if you think about it, it shouldn't be that hard to edit it to look like it now runs windows phone 8. And like someone said at isn't that Symbian's menu button? lol

I reckon nokia knew from the start as there relationship because they would of told them if Microsoft is putting billions in there company . I reckon they thought get millions of nokias current customers to join up at the time ,but they went to android instead .they did not need to make a change to wp7 they should of waited wp8 at the time there were off making a lot of money ffrom symbian os but stephen elop cocked ever thing up big time

In relation to the WP7 WP8 lack of upgrade argument i think a lot of people are over hyping the current models lack of upgrade potential. Most people dont care if there phone will upgrade software or not, they buy the phone for what it can do not what it might be able to do. And if were all honest the benefits of all these software upgrade and so incremental that really only a minority will notice anything has changed. Buy the time the current gen of handsets are ready to be upgraded people will be renewing contract and getting new handsets anyway so does it even matter?

Did anybody ask why?

Why in the world would they want the bottom part to twist like that?

A camcorder which can also make phone calls!

A remake of the Nokia 5700? I guess that would be cool...

Again. really. This design sucked first time and it'll suck this time, not to mention its a pig to repair.
