Looking to light up your life with a Nokia Lumia 920 -- but don't want to sign up to EE? Then you're in luck: Nokia says the 920 will come to other phone networks in the new year.
"We have been listening to what our loyal consumers want and we have been working to make the Lumia 920 available from other retailers from January onwards", says Nokia on its UK Facebook page, in answer to questions from fans.
"Keep an eye on our page for more details about the deals", adds the Finnish phone-flinger.
The Lumia 920 has until now been exclusively available on EE, the phone network formed by the merger of Orange and T-Mobile. That's most disappointing for phone fans who want to try Windows Phone 8 but don't want to change networks, and Nokia's Facebook fans quickly made their feelings plain: "If Nokia survives to produce another high-end phone, please don't sign exclusivity to EE," says one reader in response to the news. "They are useless."
"I will never ever sign anything with EE," spits another reader.
One of the first wave of 4G phones in the UK, EE hoarded the 920 to entice customers who fancy a bit of Lumia action onto the 4G EE network -- which is of course more expensive. The 920 can be bought just on a 3G contract from EE, but the network heavily steers you towards its 4G deals.
More Lumias are arriving in the new year too. Joining the 920 and 820 is the Lumia 620, set to be the most affordable Windows Phone 8 phone yet. Other Windows 8-powered blowers include the HTC 8X and 8S, with Samsung models on the way.
Would you consider a new Nokia if it came to a different network? Tell me your thoughts in the comments or on our Facebook page.

If the Lumia 920 was available on a network other than EE then I certainly would jump at the chance!

Meh, there are phones with far better camera, running far better OS. (Xperia S or Xperia T for example). Both have bad backlit CCD for 24 months, and don't have battery sucking and barren marketplace of Windows Phone 8...
You would have to be a right mug to buy a Lumia/Windows Phone, there are plenty of far better phones with better camera, better OS for less money..
anonymous 10 December, 2012 17:00
lol Nathan Explosion, better OS on Xperia? That's a joke right ...
anonymous 10 December, 2012 17:01
A little too late for me, was all up for buying one but too little stock as stores only had a handful of them. Also phones4u would only want to sell them on plan even thought they claim to be selling them outright (still locked).
anonymous 10 December, 2012 17:06
Nathan,
I'm not sure if you're trolling or just need professional help. I mean, better cameras, battery (Android eats battery like a fat kid in a cake shop) and OS (neither run Jelly Bean)?
You would have to be a right mug to take your comments seriously.

Nokia Lumia 920 is very low category hardware inside. It has the problem with auto rebooting again and again for the problem of Windows 8 (Mobile version OS). In this category HTC 8X is perfect. But Android is far more smartphone OS than Windows or iOS of apple. The more software installed the more rapid batter power will be drained. Microsoft OS for smartphone should be unique and very popular, but they are not. Both Microsoft and Apple should invent high end, user friendly, highly attractive and interactive OS for smartphone asap

im no apple fan boy, in fact im more pro-android but even ill admit that ios is the best smartphone OS at the moment. it has the beautiful liquid smooth animations and ui like windows phone 8 and the wealth of apps superceding both operating systems (WP8 and android) in both quality and quantity. hardware on ios devices arent as beastly as android devices but the OS is so efficient, the iphone 5 (dual core) is equally on par with the galaxy s3 (quad core) for example. and in terms of tablets nexus 7 is best small tablet but the big tablets full size iPad best by far (nexus 10 has lags).

I wouldn't really trust a company's spokesperson that comment on social networks. I regularly message/mock many companies on Facebook and Twitter and they really don't have any idea what they are talking about and can't spell. Have Nokia's spokespeople on Facebook revealed information like this before and turned out to be true??

I'm hanging on for an unlocked Lumia 920 myself, unless the network has done something fantastic to earn my undying trust I'd rather that the phone I eventually owned was worth the maximum amount in case I ever wanted to sell it.
And also the freedom to swap networks is nice too.
Even though I'm currently in contract I'm seriously tempted for it, strangely while it has a much higher resolution them my current phone, and dual core its the Pureview camera that sells me mostly onto it. I've just recently been back from a wedding where the digital SLR showed its limitations for indoors low light photography, that and the wireless charging sound very nice indeed.
The puremotion display, krait processors, sensitive screen and WP8 OS are just icing on the cake (using WP7 Mango right now).

"Nokia Lumia 920 is very low category hardware inside."
Right. A dual core 1.5GHz is 'low category'. LOL! Do you even know what you're talking about?
anonymous 10 December, 2012 20:06
@Mark absulutely I know what I am talking, I am a software enginner and I like to live with the current flow of technology. At present the Quad core 1.7 GHz is running with 1080p display(~440ppi), 2 GB RAM. Internal 64 GB storage. And what the legendary Microsoft's leading phone !! LOL just a dual core .....dual core matter was happened on last year October. Apple fan likes to say iPhone 5 dual core is same as Samsung S3 Quad core? LOL thirsty for knowledge is good but little knowledge is always dangerous. Try to be with the technology, coz time has changed a lot.
anonymous 10 December, 2012 20:21
Mr.Software engineer forgot that the WPOS runs so smooth on the dual core and is far ahead compared to the ones that are quad hungry... you don't have to over use technology where it is not required... :P
anonymous 10 December, 2012 21:46
I use a Galaxy Nexus with stock Jelly Bean 4.2.1 but even I would want a Lumia 920 because it is a great phone. Those who are fanboys or trolling should go elsewhere. A red Lumia 920 would be quite good for me to complement my Galaxy Nexus. Best of both worlds.
anonymous 10 December, 2012 21:52
Some people always will come to pages of phones they don't like or want, and let their mouth lose. Lumia 920 is currently a top notch phone. If you want one, buy it, if you don't, simply don't. What is the point of saying 'it is dual core'? as if when you use a dual core and a quad core phone in day to day use you can tell which is which. WP8 doesn't need quad core to run smoothly. Go to a phone shop and see it for yourself.

The only thing I dislike about the Lumia range are the price of the higher end phones and the fact that it's exclusive to EE. Why price your flagship phone whose predecessor wasnt popular, as high as two of the most popular phones in the world??
anonymous 11 December, 2012 01:21
My Anonymous aka software engineer,
Why would you put a quad core CPU on phones(and applications) that do not need them? You'll be saving a lot on manufacturing cost. After using the Lumia 920 and playing with games, I can assure you that those games (graphic hogs) played smoothly, same fps and speed iPhone 5 and SGSIII I've tested it on. Don't start with me on the GPU!!!
-Mr. Systems Engineer
Mark Anderson 11 December, 2012 08:10
Mr 'Software Engineer', if you knew what you were talking about then you would know that optimised code requires less resources. This goes back to Symbian's old principles of resources being scarce.
So my quad core Tegra Nexus 7, for example, still lags when fast scrolling Chrome. My dual core Lumia 820 does not when scrolling IE.
No-one believes you, son.

Windows is different , fed up with android bugs, freezing up and battery issue, and iPhone , nice phone but everyone I see is blinded by apple , and its tech talk and boring system ,
Give windows a chance , they gave apple a chance and that hasn't changed much over the few years, windows is innovative ,thinks out of the box , looking at New ways to improve, by the way runs perfect on duel core , and faster and smoother, er I think they are the advanced ones not the others , so come on give it a chance , great idea. Be a leader.not a follower.

Too late Nokia, I'm due upgrade this week and really wanted the 920, I'm not changing to that joke of a network EE so its the note 2 for me

Not too sure if there are just a load of anonymous trolls here today or what. iOS is stagnant and dull compared to Android and Windows Phone 8. It has zero customisation, yet one poster trumpets it as smooth with great animations?!? What animations?
I would certainly get a Lumia 920 if I could get it unlocked for around 450. Windows Phone 8 is a breath of fresh air with it's lock screen apps and live tiles. Android would be next (I have a ngalaxy ote and an iphone both of which I develop on) due to it's recent lock screen widgets and easy customisation. Last would be iOS which is just plain dull by comparison.
anonymous 13 December, 2012 19:46
Bought it outright from Clove and currently typing this message over an O2 connection. Thinking of changing to 3 though. EE is useless.
anonymous 14 December, 2012 19:27
I was android & nothing else, until had to borrow a lumia 800, for a few days. Now there is only windows o/s for me. Just got the 820 & although so called lower spec than my S3 its far slicker & all around a far better o/s & device. Windows is the future!
anonymous 30 December, 2012 22:58
Can't wait to get my hands on the lumia 920! And the UI is fantastic ! yes it might have the odd little thing that needs tweaking but what doesn't , let's not forget when the iPhone 4 was released they had issues with the phone signal (which i had) , At the end of the day it's down to personal choice each phone and Os has good points and bad points .
