Nokia Lumia 610 is official, coming this spring

MWC 2012

We saw it leak a couple of weeks ago, but now Nokia has lifted the lid on the Lumia 610, the most affordable Windows Phone to date.

And it'll be here in the spring, which is good news if you want to get in on the Windows Phone action this season without breaking the bank.

It has a 3.7-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 480x800 pixels. There's 256MB of RAM, and internal memory is 8GB, with no memory card slot. A 5-megapixel camera sits on the back, which isn't bad given the price. Video is impressive too, recording at 1,280x720 pixels at 30fps.

Social networking is the name of the game, with the 610 coming preloaded with Twitter, Facebook, and all the other usual suspects. Nokia Maps, Nokia Drive, Nokia Music and Nokia Transport are all on-board too. Nokia Transport is the only new one here, giving you public transport info, including timetables in over 500 cities across 40 countries. And for free.

The Lumia 610 is possible thanks to a software update to Windows Phone 7.5 Mango. Coming in April, it lowers the requirements for processor and memory needed for the Windows Phone operating system to work. So in other words, the OS will no longer be the preserve of pricier handsets.

The 610 will come in four colours: cyan, white, black and magenta. It'll cost €189 (£160) when it goes on sale around April time.

Also at Mobile World Congress, Nokia outed the 808 PureView, which packs a ridiculous 41-megapixel camera. Whatever next in this crazy phone fest? We've seen plenty of innovative devices already.

Is the Lumia 610 a welcome addition to the Lumia range? And can it compete with other budget handsets? Let me know in the comments below, or on our Facebook page.
