Nokia 6300: Straightforward steel

A while ago Crave moaned that Nokia phones are getting a little complicated to use, but it seems Nokia hasn't completely lost the plot. Two days ago the company announced the launch of the Nokia 6300, a mid-range candybar handset that measures 13mm in depth and weighs 91g. It's coming out early next year and it will cost around £170 SIM-free.

It has a stainless steel casing, a colour screen and a straightforward keypad. There's a 2-megapixel camera on the back, 135MB of onboard memory with support for up to 2GB microSD cards, voice dialling, voice commands and voice recording, an MP3 player, an FM radio and an integrated hands-free speaker.

This won't be the most advanced phone out there but neither was the 3210 and that was one of Nokia's best-selling handsets in the UK. The fact is that while this phone isn't high-end, it has a strong casing, a great all-round feature set and an elegant, straightforward design. This is the kind of Nokia phone people love and this is what Nokia does best. -AL
