Nokia 6131: Push and flip

Technology is at fault for much of the laziness that exists in the modern world. You could survive for years with merely a laptop, a credit card and a broadband connection -- you wouldn't need to leave the house to buy food, toiletries or other essentials, and could earn a decent salary by working from home.

Some people have become so lazy that they won't even buy a clamshell mobile phone because it takes too much effort to open it. Fortunately, there are a few clamshell phones out there that flip open with the simple press of a button.

One of the latest auto-flip phones to see the light of day is the Nokia 6131, an elegant-looking phone with a 1.3-megapixel camera, a bright internal screen and a large, easy-to-use keypad.

The 6131 even has an expandable microSD slot that can support up to 2GB, and it's quad-band so it will work almost anywhere. The button-operated flip and large keypad make it a joy to use and Nokia's Series 40 interface is pretty much hassle-free. We particularly like the rubber casing of the phone, which feels good and is a small but welcome detail.

The 6131 is currently available from T-Mobile and O2 for free with a monthly contract and should be available soon on pay as you go. Expect a full review soon. -AL

Update: a full review of the Nokia 6131 is now live.
