Struggling to get your hands on the elusive Nexus 4 smart phone? LG says that's because it's so popular, citing "huge demand" when CNET UK asked about the phone's gloomy supply situation.
The LG-built Nexus 4 went on sale in mid-November, but sold out in half an hour. It was briefly back in stock on Tuesday, but by Wednesday morning the 8GB version was already out of stock again. I contacted LG with a few inventory-related questions.
When asked whether LG knows why Google is running out of Nexus 4 stock, Andy Coughlin, the head of mobile at LG UK, said the phone "had proven extremely popular, and as such retailers have been met with huge demand".
"We are working closely with Google to ensure that those who wish to purchase a handset are able to do so," Coughlin added.
'Demand via the Play Store has been very high'
Popularity is one thing, but selling out so quickly has left Android fans who wanted to buy the phone fuming. Perhaps Google didn't buy enough phones?
I asked whether LG has agreed with Google the level of Nexus 4 stock that will be sold through the Google Play store, and the amount to be sold through other channels.
"As with any sales process, LG supplies product quantities against partners'/customers' (ie retailers, operators etc) forecasts," Coughlin explained, going on to say, "demand via the Play Store has been very high in this instance."
To me that suggests Google may have aimed too low when it ordered its early batches of phones -- something LG confirmed happens directly through LG's headquarters in Seoul. Perhaps the Big G didn't expect its new phone to be quite so popular, and forecasted less demand than is actually out there.
There are worse problems than being too popular of course, but desperately low supplies have tainted the launch of the otherwise jaw-dropping Nexus 4. Google's £239 pricetag for its Galaxy S3-rivalling smart phone makes it one of the year's most exciting devices, but if people aren't even able to throw cash Google's way to get one, its success could prove limited.
'Good for Google'
You can still get the Nexus 4 from operators, though you'll end up paying more money than you would if you bought from Google. Three sells the Nexus 4 for £400 plus a top-up on pay as you go, for example. I asked LG why the phone cost more from non-Google retailers, and was told, "The retail price of LG products is decided by individual retailers."
Ian Fogg, mobile media senior principal analyst for IHS, said, "It's hard to say whether Google underestimated demand, or whether they chose simply to have a number of devices available," also commenting that regardless of stock shortages, "the fact that the Nexus 4 is high profile is good for Google".
"All of this raises the public profile of Android," Fogg said. "All of this helps Google's strategic objectives."
I asked Google about the Nexus 4 stock shortages and when we could expect new stock (a request sent prior to the restock earlier this week), but it didn't have an on-record statement to share.
Have you managed to bag yourself a Nexus 4, or are you hoping to buy one when Google next has stock? Let me know in the comments, or on our Facebook wall.

I ordered the 8gb nexus 4 on Tuesday evening and it arrived today (Thursday 6th) at 16:00 via TNT!!! I was also told that shipping would be 4-5 weeks so the turnaround is amazing! And, may I just add, the phone for the money is beyond good.
anonymous 6 December, 2012 17:49
Me too. Checked on Tuesday evening saw that there was stock - bought 2 8GB models on what i thought was a 4 weeks delivery and bingo they arrived today via TNT!
Mrs Anonymous is going to be very happy with her Christmas present! :-)
anonymous 6 December, 2012 17:51
to the guy above me, nice!!.... but that isn't fair on the people that actually got it bang on 5. i for instance ordered mine at 5 and received a shipping of one-two weeks so i am questioning if you are telling the truth. PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN!!!
Matt Winston. 6 December, 2012 17:59
Did you ask them how many LG sold to Google, and how many Nexus's have actually been made?
Ultraman1966 6 December, 2012 18:10
I ordered at 17:09 on Tuesday, everything went pretty swimmingly and I've had no further progress on my order. I want a shipping cost refund and apology from Google for sending out orders to those who ordered after myself and others. There's a queue and we don't leave in backwards universe so FCFS should apply.
anonymous 6 December, 2012 18:12
I'm really wondering if the sudden drop in estimated delivery time on the iPhone 5 isn't due to canceled iPhone 5 orders and placing of Nexus 4 orders. The drop from 5-6 weeks to 1 week seems very suspicious.
anonymous 6 December, 2012 18:18
Ordered around 7pm on tuesday for nexus 16gb and got an email saying it's shipped today. Fingers crossed it will be were soon...
I registered interest before it went on sale initially, perhaps that contributes to your place in the queue.
anonymous 6 December, 2012 18:18
High demand but Google have only ordered a relatively low number and therefore sold out !!!
Did they underestimate the demand, or is there another reason, i.e. the Play Store price is heavily subsidised, but Google will only fund so many at this price?
That might well explain the higher price buying over the counter at regular phone suppliers. Those prices may be more realistic (including a normal mark-up) than the Google price?
Whatever, it's clear that this phone hasn't sold in vast numbers yet.
anonymous 6 December, 2012 18:28
I ordered a 16GB Nexus 4 on Thuesday (4th) evening at 10pm after they became available again on the UK play store at 5pm the same day. The shipping time was quoted at 4 to 5 weeks (and this was confirmed on my order email) but i though what the heck and ordered it anyway as an early xmas present for myself! And then settled in for the long wait until January. Low and behold it turned up at my office this afternoon! Nice one Google; under promise and over deliver seems to be the new policy at Google!
anonymous 6 December, 2012 18:29
Do you think i should contact google about this? i ordered as soon as it said add to cart and you guys ordered after me and still got it early? no fair google i paid £10 shipping to
dreadcriminal 6 December, 2012 18:33
I ordered a 16gb unit 2 days ago and it arrived this afternoon, a lot sooner than the 4-5 weeks I was quoted so V happy. ( Was that the whole point though.....? )
Dave Phipp 6 December, 2012 18:40
those that have received thier nexus earlier than expected did you get a shipping notification? i was quoted 5-6 weeks so i'm hoping i'll get lucky too :-) as for the comment about iphone waiting times dropping, maybe its just apple trying to capture orders by quoting a shorter lead time? knowing that google are quoting up to 7 weeks
anonymous 6 December, 2012 18:49
@Dave Phipp, i did. Received a shipping confirmation at 1:02 am this morning and then arrived at my office in Leicestershire at 15:15 this afternoon. Very happy; except that i haven't got a micro sim so having to wait for that to arrive from my network.
Dave Phipp 6 December, 2012 18:56
thats good. i have ordered a case from amazon just in case it comes early, dont want it breaking!
anonymous 6 December, 2012 19:10
Ordered Tuesday evening. Delivery 4-6 weeks. Arrived at lunchtime. It's flippin good :-)
anonymous 6 December, 2012 19:12
16GB at 17:24 on Tuesday and still nothing .... 1-2 weeks delivery stated in my order, really not fair...what is going on google?
anonymous 6 December, 2012 19:18
Checking play store 4 times a day to see if the "Sold Out" is gone.
I dont want to buy from a third party charging $ 550 to $ 600 for a 16GB -- Becoz, it defeats the purpose and with that kind of money I will have more choices.
If I am not able to place an order for Nexus 4 in next two months.. Then I will wait for ONE year when all the hype about it fades, and I can place order like a consumer.
anonymous 6 December, 2012 19:19
Ordered 4 Dec 2012 5:09:32... nothing yet. Humph.
Was this because the box to associate the phone with the gmail account was ticked and they have to do some manual jiggery-pokery to the phone before dispatching it?
anonymous 6 December, 2012 19:24
Does it seem like Google are using a 'First In Last Out' Stack for holding these orders !?
I order the 16GB on Dec 4, 2012 5:06:09 PM GMT and have seen no movement on the order at all, I also have had the bumpers on order since the original release date and again no movement on that order either. Both orders just sat in Google Wallet as pending.
Anyway I am glad to finally have one on order and will be very happy when it finally arrives (a nice suprise delivery for Christmas would be nice though.
Happy Holidays people.
anonymous 6 December, 2012 19:24
Interesting thought:
"Was this because the box to associate the phone with the gmail account was ticked and they have to do some manual jiggery-pokery to the phone before dispatching it?"
I unticked this box as i didn't want it automatically associating and i received mine today (ordered Tuesday evening at 10pm)
anonymous 6 December, 2012 19:31
Good point, I wasn't aware of that checkbox until after adding the phone (was desperate to get it to the checkout) so it would make sense that they have to do something to the phone to sync to your Google account in advanced.
anonymous 6 December, 2012 19:32
@anonymous 6 December, 2012 17:51
...The invoice clearly states they send via DHL not TNT as Mr Anonymous would have us believe!
I am waiting for my status to change from pending so fingers crossed I may have mine early in the new year!
anonymous 6 December, 2012 19:51
Might be different courier for each order as mine also said TNT on the shipping confirmation (and then arrived today by TNT)
anonymous 6 December, 2012 19:52
Ordered 16Gb Nexus 4 this morning (6th Dec) at 7am with estimated 5-6 weeks for shipping. Just got email from Google saying it's shipped and giving TNT tracking number. Strange but (let's hope) true!
anonymous 6 December, 2012 19:58
Told you, FILO stack for the orders ;o)
Dave Phipp 6 December, 2012 20:09
anon @19:52. did you leave the google account box ticked?
anonymous 6 December, 2012 20:13
What if...
The phones are linked to orders at a hardware level and sold on a first come basis but the ones first off the truck are now buried behind the others and we have to wait for them to clear the back orders before shipping our early bird orders... Arrgghh... (think Scrat the squirrel from Ice Age ;)
anonymous 6 December, 2012 20:14

Quote..."I'm really wondering if the sudden drop in estimated delivery time on the iPhone 5 isn't due to canceled iPhone 5 orders and placing of Nexus 4 orders. The drop from 5-6 weeks to 1 week seems very suspicious".
Unfortunately not. iPhone production has been gradually ramped up to meet a huge backlog in demand. They are still rolling it out in new markets, with China next.
sales are in the tens of millions (expected to be around 40+ million this quarter.
The Nexus 4 will only have sold a few tens of thousands so far with the limited supply. It will take time for sales to ramp up, but it isn't really in iPhone numbers.
anonymous 6 December, 2012 20:19
Dave Phipp from anon @ 19:52...... Yes, ticked
Dave Phipp 6 December, 2012 20:34
that rules out that theory then.
anonymous 6 December, 2012 20:36
Like a few others on here, I managed to purchase an 8Gb version on Tuesday 4th. Told 4-5 weeks shipping. And yet it arrived today!
However - and this is a little concerning - Google haven't sent me a 'delivery email'; as far as they are concerned, my order is *still pending*. Should I be worried that the all-seeing-Google have no idea that they have sent me a phone? Even more so that they haven't *charged* me for said phone?!
anonymous 6 December, 2012 21:19
I just received a confirmation of shipping for the bumpers ordered Nov 29, 2012 9:15:58 AM GMT.
To be shipped 1-2 day delivery via TNT. Google wallet now shows that order as complete (green tick). Still no movement on the phone order, and no charge on the credit card for either order.
I'm sure it will all work out and this is all just demand for a great phone and with Xmas just around the corner delivery times will vary. Merry Christmas every one.
anonymous 6 December, 2012 21:24
Damn it, I ordered at 17:45:16 on 4th and yet to receive dispatch or any update, how come so many people have already received their phones even after order later that night? This whole thing just sucks man
mattlad 6 December, 2012 21:28
Ah! So it's our fault for actually wanting one...........
anonymous 6 December, 2012 21:37
Ahhh... I ordered mine on 4th at 5.08PM, ticked that I did not want the phone to be linked to my Google account and still haven't received anything; not even the tracking number! The bizarre thing though is that they charged my bank card right when I ordered it even though it says they will charge you once the the device has shipped...
anonymous 6 December, 2012 21:40
bought 16gb nexus 4 at 17:50 two days ago, 3-4 weeks shipping time and nothing except order confirmation, ordered from london which should have been given priority but no, should i complain as people with 5-6 weeks estimate got it today got it. :(
Valentin 6 December, 2012 21:47
I have ordered mine on 4th, just after 8 PM (I left the check-box ticked) then got the confirmation email stating "Estimated Ship." in 4-5 weeks. This morning at 1:06 AM I received the confirmation that my order has been shipped and, just after 10:00 AM my wife phoned and told me the TNT has delivered my phone. So, an estimated delivery of 4-5 weeks was actually a day and a half!!!
Well done, Google!!!
Feroze 6 December, 2012 21:48
I ordered at 17:10 on the 4th and was presented with 1-2 weeks' shipping. It took a little longer because, even though I had an Amex card registered with Google Wallet, it was "unsupported"; I therefore had to enter the details of another credit card. I have received nothing beyond the Order Confirmation email - my credit card, however, has been authorised.....
Feroze 6 December, 2012 21:49
I should add that I unticked the check box.
anonymous 6 December, 2012 22:48
I ordered a 16 GB on the night of the 4th and got an email today to say it has shipped. When I ordered it said lead time was 4-5 weeks. Well done LG and Google.
anonymous 6 December, 2012 23:02
I'm another that ordered late on Tuesday with email stating delivery in 4-5 weeks. Delivered today by TNT. Guy said he had loads of extra deliveries from Google due to nexus phones and tablets. Must admit I thought Google had very limited stock but now starting to believe they have actually been overwhelmed by demand. Phone is superb!
Feroze 6 December, 2012 23:04
Perhaps I should have waited until later on Tuesday to put my order in and get it delivered before those that ordered before me....
anonymous 6 December, 2012 23:28
That's madness. I completed my order (nexus 4 8GB) at 5:07PM, was given a 4-5 week estimate delivery date, and haven't heard back from them since. Should I have really waited a few more hours ??
So unfair!
anonymous 6 December, 2012 23:40
Really, really unfair that people are receiving theirs weeks before those who ordered much earlier.
Google suck at delivery. I would not be complaining if I was in the category who got a phone early, but I'm not so I'm angry!
anonymous 6 December, 2012 23:47
I ordered at 5:05 with 1-2 week shipping. Card was charged straight away and havent heard anything. (didnt see any checkbox about gmail so I assume it was left checked) What the hell..
Paul Riley 6 December, 2012 23:55
I ordered at 17:06 on the 4th, not had anything, why are people who ordered only yesterday receiving the phone today? Good on ya but how unfair is that of Google. Contact Google support on the phone who just wouldnt help, and said i still have 1 - 2 weeks before we will look into it as that was my delivery estimate. Explained about people getting them after me and she just dismissed it.
anonymous 7 December, 2012 01:14
ordered my nexus wednesday night and got a shipping confirmation on thursday evening. hoping it arrives over the weekend.
anonymous 7 December, 2012 01:48
Mine was delivered today. Ordered Tuesday 04/12 midnight at work, 5/6 week wait.
E Mail notification Wednesday item has shipped, TNT delivered today at 15.40.
Very happy, great phone.
anonymous 7 December, 2012 01:51
Nice surprise from google. Ordered mine around 1-2am on the 6th with estimated time 5-6 weeks. 7ish I got an email that its shipped. Money taken from card so hopefully I'm gonna get it tomorrow :)
I was ready to wait till January, thanks Google!
anonymous 7 December, 2012 03:14
Ordered 16gb at 5.17pm Tuesday got order confirmation email and nothing since ! This whole launch has been handled so badly I'm glad people have got phones early but it just shows googles lack of ability to honour orders in the order they are received, how hard is it ?.
anonymous 7 December, 2012 04:33
Why do we take it » The Nexus 4 is pretty amazing right? I was so excited for this phone that I called in sick for work, set up multiple browsers on auto refresh, and spent 6 hours with the most disappointing e-commerce experience of my life. It was all worth it in the end though, when I finally got through! Wrong! A couple days later I received an email letting me know that I canceled my order. Huh? When I contacted support, I was greeted by a friendly voice explaining that Google never makes mistakes, and it had to be my fault. I went back in forth with them for a day hoping that someone would help, or at least look into the issue. Well… I was met with more nice passive voices letting me know that I can definitely have a Nexus 4 in 6-7 weeks if I order it today. I am 27 years old, and I already miss the days when a company had to care about their customers.
A little venting...
anonymous 7 December, 2012 07:22
Has anyone contacted Google asking them why later orders are being processed first?
anonymous 7 December, 2012 07:27
I am another one who ordered at 5.07pm on the 4th and still google wallet says pending. I followed the links to contact google this morning and asked them to review my order and provide a shipping date. When I sent the mail it shows a page which says feel free to respond to your confirmation email with additional information??? So I have and asked them to please expedite my order :-)
Watch this space.
anonymous 7 December, 2012 07:49
I am also one of those people that ordered early on the 4th (16gb model), received a confirmation email saying 1-2 weeks and nothing since. A bit annoyed to see people who've ordered after me already received their handset. I did phone Google yesterday morning and the gentleman said he can't guarantee it but it should be shipping within 24-48 hours. Perhaps if we keep calling them, they'll get their act together. VERY disappointing to see that they are not honoring their shipments in the order they arriverd
anonymous 7 December, 2012 08:02
It looks like nobody who got a time of 1-2 weeks has had their phone shipped yet. Be I am one. To Perhaps they lost all our orders.
anonymous 7 December, 2012 08:32
Perhaps sending them your confirmation email back will be the only record they have of you making the order? or perhaps the only readily available record without them scraping their email / order system.
anonymous 7 December, 2012 08:34
I think though what is happening is unfair, at the end of the day, as long as the original "1-2 week" window hasn't passed, there's not much they will be willing to do
anonymous 7 December, 2012 08:51

i find it quite funny how everyone is complaining they haven't got their phones yet. we all saw long lead times before we processed our orders (5-6 weeks in my case) but we were ok with this and still ordered them. now just because some people have got theirs suddenly its bad service by google. its bad service if they don't deliver within the time quoted. I think that google will fulfil all orders earlier than quoted and everyone will be happy. just be patient guy and gals!
Dudley Salterton 7 December, 2012 09:24
Ordered mine last night - confirmation says 6-7 weeks for shipping. Lucky for me I don't mind the wait...
Paul Riley 7 December, 2012 09:42
Yes, I have contact google play several time, every time I'm met with pure arrogance. They say they are NOT shipping them out in the wrong order, and that I'm mistaken, and that people just make stuff up on the internet. I said many different forums from many different people are complaining of the same thing. They just don't want to hear it or do anything about it. I even said I experience the same thing with my Nexus 7.
As I said in my previous post they are refusing to do anything with my order until my original 1 - 2 weeks has passed, the people I speak to seem surprised that I have an issue since I'm still within that time frame, regardless of the fact that people who ordered after me have their phones already. They just don't want to know.
Shockingly bad customer services!
Mark Wheadon 7 December, 2012 09:48
Aww. I was quite happy waiting my '1-2 weeks' -- now you guys have blown it by raising my expectations (ordered at about 17:06). Now I want it _now_. Today. If not sooner. Grrr.
anonymous 7 December, 2012 10:44
Just called Google and they told me that they are investigating why the people who ordered very early have not got their phones. In fact, I ordered at 5:09 and now I have been downgraded to preorder status! Unbelievable! He did state that I would get the phone within the originally quoted timeframe of 1-2 weeks. Maybe I should ask for the cost of shipping to be refunded as a goodwill gesture.
I am disappointed and I am sure all you other "F5"ers are too!
Grrr.
anonymous 7 December, 2012 10:53
I ordered an 8gb late tuesday. That came yesterday. Decided to order the 16gb early yesterday hoping th same thing would happen.. However I havent even received notiication that Google Commerce have received my order. I gave them a call and they said it should go through soon..they do not know whe soon is. Anybody else had the same problem that ordered yesterday?
Mark Wheadon 7 December, 2012 11:26
People have received confirmation from Google Commerce? I have only my original conformation from the Google play store -- nothing else.
Groan -- I guess I'll have to chase it. Google's handling of this shows just how skilled the likes of Amazon are nowadays. I order all the time from Amazon, no problems, whereas ordering from Google has been pain all the way...
anonymous 7 December, 2012 12:22
I think people that have ordered the 8GB are receiving it first, I ordered mine on Tuesday 5:12PM and only got the confirmation email from Google nothing else :(
This is an Outrage!!!
shauney3 7 December, 2012 12:33
Looks like the 8GB's are going out first. I ordered the 16GB, no shipping notice yet... So looks like us 16GB-ers will have to wait a bit longer. No biggie. Calm down everyone, people so quick to complain. This is Google's first venture into shipping its own products, and they undervalued their own forecasts.
anonymous 7 December, 2012 13:59

anonymous 7 December, 2012 14:12
Yet another early buyer with no updates. I have called and emailed google twice now and although I speak to a happy-go-lucky yank I get nowhere. They simply do not understand why the late orders are going out before the early ones and are not willing to do anything about it. I have been told it will be with me before the 2 weeks is up but till that has passed I just have to wait. I wouldnt mind if I didnt have all these people who ordered days after me getting theirs already. Not amused.
anonymous 7 December, 2012 14:17
I ordered mine @ 5:07pm with a 1-2 week wait 16gb model.
Just called Google myself. Nothing wrong with my order and the gentleman assures me that the tracking number will be sent out to me today or early next week. He mentioned orders are being shipped already.
One thing alot of people here may not realise is that early f5ers may have had their payments declined or cancelled. Some may have even cancelled their orders!
When orders came online it stated that shipping was 3-5 days, then 1-2 weeks then finally 5-6 weeks. It wouldnt suprise me if the orders that were cancelled for the 3-5 day shipping estimate was assigned to those who ordered later after that particular phone was 'freed up'.
Not sure what the big fuss is about, it may come a couple of days later... its not the end of the world...
anonymous 7 December, 2012 16:34

anonymous 7 December, 2012 17:10
same ... 1-2 weeks waiting period. ordered it at 17:08 pm. still no reply mail. called customer service, they said blogs and people stating they got delivery are fake.. customer service of google is sad....
DanielUK 7 December, 2012 17:52
Ordered 16GB at 17:08 according to Google Wallet confirmation, delivery showed as 1-2 weeks when I ordered, still shows as Pending in GW. Left the 'tie to my account' checkbox ticked.
I was happy with that until I saw you cheeky s0ds who ordered after and who have it already!
srhplover 7 December, 2012 17:52
Re a couple above..my HTC Desire did that earlier too. Facebook fills it up!
Hence the Nexus. I ordered my 8gb at 7pm on the 4th. I was quoted 4/5 weeks delivery. I got an immediate confirmation.
It arrived on the 6th at lunchtime, delivered by TNT.
anonymous 7 December, 2012 17:54
ordered on the 4th dec within the 1-2 weeks delivery period (UK) and it's still pending, yet others i know ordered hours after me with a 4-5 week wait and have already received their devices, and from what i can tell a lot of people here received their devices early as well!
Don't quite understand google's process of selection here. called customer services and they were unable to answer the question or provide any information as to why the 1-2 week orders are still pending
srhplover 7 December, 2012 18:02
For those still waiting it might be little comfort but it is a super piece of kit!
DanielUK 7 December, 2012 19:14
Thanks srhplover - rub it in why don't you :)
If they don't send any update by Monday I'll order a second one and see which arrives first!

Ordered 16gb after 5.08pm. Haven't seen any tick boxes. Still no shipping confirmation. 1-2 weeks quote.

anonymous 8 December, 2012 02:51
I order the 16GB on the 6th and when I checked the google wallet it is saying pending. I also ordered a 16GB from Ebay was lucky bought it for $415 and was told it would be sent out next week from Ebay
anonymous 8 December, 2012 07:04
II contacted Google by email about my order yesterday, this is their response :

Really helpful, I guess it comes down to whether I believe the people claiming they ordered late but have received their phones already? I ordered at 5.07 I couldn't have ordered any quicker, the progression of the updated web page from Google took 6 mins to be copied to my nearest net hub. This was the same when it became available first in the UK.
My shipping estimate is 1-2 weeks, that's all I can go on, I don't know anyone else who ordered one so I have no comparison.

Ah...you plumped for the 8GB - as has been said above, it looks like they're shipping those out before the 16GB devices.
anonymous 8 December, 2012 10:44
I'm a 3-5 day 16gb person so in for the long haul.
Here are the results of some friends of mine

So, I ordered a 16GB at 17.06 (according to my Play receipt) and have heard nothing since. I called Google today and apparently my order has been received and sent to the manufacturer and so I am on "back order". Unfortunately, the operative couldn't give me any further information but suggested that the order status may change in the next week, but I'm sure that was an optimistic guess! Mind you, I was quoted delivery in "1-2 weeks" and so we're still within that time. Have only 8GB models been shipped?
anonymous 8 December, 2012 10:46
maybe everyone order 16GB will receive a 32GB instead, and Google is getting rid of the 8GB. My 8 & 16GB both are still Pending, money has been taken though.
anonymous 8 December, 2012 11:12
srhplover, There was no malice in my comment about believing whether people have received their phones...its just that in an open forum people have been known to make things up just to stir the pot.
However Google is handling the orders it does appear to the average punter it hasnt been handled in the fairest way, hey ho by the 19th I will have forgotten about all of this... hopefully!
anonymous 8 December, 2012 11:13
Ordered mine on 4th after 9pm, they told me 4-5 Weeks delivery. Got email on the 5th saying it has been dispatched and it arrived on the 7th at 9.30am from TNT. Mine is 16gb. Delivery seems to have a pattern to it, people who ordered very late on the 4th seem to have got their handsets. My cousin ordered the same 16gb at 5pm and his order still says 4-5 Weeks.
anonymous 8 December, 2012 11:49
There is no pattern. Mine was a late order, 11:04pm on the 4th with 5-6 week delivery window and I have yet to hear from them.
anonymous 8 December, 2012 12:00
I've probably found 100 people on twitter who have had delivery on 4-5 weeks. Not sure I've seen a single one with 3-5 days or 1-2 weeks.
Looks more like reverse order than random
anonymous 8 December, 2012 12:08
Only some people with a 4-5 Week delivery have received their handsets, people with other delivery estimates have not got anything.
anonymous 8 December, 2012 13:40
My status in GW is complete rather than pending but no sign of any tracking info. Does anyone know if this is a sign of progress or not?
anonymous 8 December, 2012 13:57
i just ordered today at 12.06pm as the 16gb is avaliable for order. shipping says 6-7 weeks an hour later says it is dispatched. i thought it would be 6-7 weeks. not really sure what is going on
anonymous 8 December, 2012 14:32
I have 4-5 weeks estimate on my receipt for nexus 4 16gb yet nothing after not sure whats happening but i bought it at 5:50 on 4th dec. sent an email and an automated response saying it is expected to ship at around 5th January. :(
anonymous 8 December, 2012 15:37
I don't get it. So people, basically your receipt says that your delivery time should be in 1-2 weeks and you already contracting google? What do you say to them? "i ordered it with 1-2 weeks delivery time,I agreed to wait but it have been 3 days already and I still haven't receive it"? Isn't it silly? OK maybe just wait 1-2 weeks and if you don't get it then complain, if you get it in 1 week it's still better then 2. I've ordered mine 2x16gb 7th at about 3am and it's pending with 6-7 weeks. If I get it for Christmas that would be great, but if not,I can just wait.
And the order mixing by google-we will see when the selling statistics will come out what are they dealing with. I saw somewhere, that nexus 4 is already 4th best selling phone in UK in 2012 (galaxy s3, iphone4s, iphone5 and n). They started month ago from google play. To compare with galaxy, they selling it almost year from every shop you go to. So google took the harder way to deliver nexus4 to our hands for less money so we could just be happy about that. Who knows, maybe if Samsung would sell galaxy from it's web site and there will be no delivery fees to deliver phone toshops, no fees to make income for the operators,... It could maybe be also very cheap phone. Who says that o2 is not buying galaxy s3 for 250 pounds and selling it for 500? They did the same with nexus as we saw. So here we go. If you want nexus4 now go to o2 and buy it. If you want it cheerio, say thank you to google for dealing with all this troubles just to give it as cheap as possible and wait in the raw.
Anyway I'm sure three there is many people who ordered 4th and received the phone already. But they are playing with it now and they are not checking this kind of forums anyway as it is not bothering them anymore: )
anonymous 8 December, 2012 16:33
how many people have got there nexus 4 16gb as i am anxious want it by the 15th dec.
anonymous 8 December, 2012 18:00
I actually ordered two. One for me and one for father on his account. His was done at 3 hours after mine, in turn which was bang on 5pm.. I'm still waiting but my dad's said 4-5 weeks and it was delivered yesterday... I've spoken to other people and it send Google are sending out orders placed closer to 5pmAFTER.. I've emailed them twice to only receive generic response. Very unhappy. Everyone that ordered later in the evening have got theirs.. The quicker orders processed were delayed.. Hurry the hell up Google..
anonymous 8 December, 2012 18:38

anonymous 8 December, 2012 22:47
we have a life but want our phone asap.
anonymous 9 December, 2012 03:54

Mark Wheadon 9 December, 2012 18:18
Spot the troll...
anonymous 9 December, 2012 21:30
How is it bad on Google's part? It says an estimated time, if you got it early good for you. Those people calling to complain 3 days into a 1-2 week estimated delivery time are just slowing down the process by hassling Google when then still have a week and a half until they have a VALID reason to complain!
Those people sad enough to queue for hours at an iphone launch or hammer the F5 key so they can be all hipster an say 'yeah, totally got mine 24 hours before you' should be happy to have an order. The 8gb was 'out of stock' last I looked so wait until the estimated time is up (bet its earlier than that in 99% of cases) at least your order email is proof you 'won' in the I ordered mine before you competition.....
anonymous 9 December, 2012 21:32
and another thing BTW Ordered mine on the 8th with an 8 WEEK wait. Had my last LG on an 18 month contract, sure I can 'suffer' with it a few more weeks.......
anonymous 10 December, 2012 11:14
I orderd mine on the 4th at 17:30 and still havent even had a shipping email :( (it a 8gig btw)
anonymous 10 December, 2012 15:01
I ordered 3 using 3 different accounts, first 2 orders completed by 5:15pm (1-2 week) still pending and the 3rd order was completed around 6:10pm (5-6 week) still pending......It will arrive when it arrives......
annie 10 December, 2012 18:45
I have been waiting to order the Google nexus 4 16gb for weeks now, and when I went on Google a few days ago it didn't say it was sold out anymore just that shipping will take 5-6 weeks, so I went through the whole ordering process and then when I clicked 'buy' it said it couldn't be done because of a technical issue, I have carried on trying a couple of times a day but it still won't let me. All I can think that the problem is is that Google are actually 'sold out' and are just not saying so on the 16gb, I really want to order it!
anonymous 11 December, 2012 00:47
We've had the Nexus 4 in stock for 2 weeks now and have signed up 5 people (24 month contracts) with this phone.
There are still 15 in stock, but we can get more from the central distribution centre if needed.
Lowest contract price £20.50 pm, but the data allowance isn't that good.
£26 pm gets you a free phone and 750GB.
anonymous 11 December, 2012 20:13
I got an email saying phones will be shipped on the 19th automated reply of course. Tempted to canel
anonymous 12 December, 2012 13:05
recieved my order from the 8th today. amazing phone.
anonymous 12 December, 2012 13:06
troll yourself Mark. Get yourself a better phone
anonymous 12 December, 2012 15:58
The funniest comment I read was on another forum which stated "I ordered my 8gb Nexus 4 on the 5th and received it on the 6th of December". Now, everyone knows that the 8gb was sold out by the 5th so this was clearly a troll.
Probably Apple Fanboys who've created a nerdy group trying bother us.
Calm down people.....
anonymous 12 December, 2012 17:55
ordered 5.05 on 4th for both and still waiting. sent work collegue cheeky text saying bought them. they then ordered at 8pm on 4th, received email 4 -5 weeks. Arrived and in my face on thu 6th........
anonymous 12 December, 2012 20:06
Just spoken with Google, thy didn't even take any of my details ust asked when I place the order and said that this must be one of the back logged orders. Apparently TNT will hae the phone but that have been overwhelmed with orders.
I did ask if I would get the order by Christmas and was told he could not comment.
Going to have one very dissapointed other half if I don't.
anonymous 12 December, 2012 23:59
Nexus 4 8Gb & 16G status was change from "Pending" on the 4th Dec, to
"Pre-ordered" on the 12 Dec (today). I am suppose to get the phones in 1-2 weeks for the 16G & 5-6 weeks for the 8GB. The charges on my bank acc are still pending and also noticed a charged for £1 which is also pending. Any ideas and if any had the same thing? thanks
anonymous 13 December, 2012 00:29
The same with me, ordered two 16gb on 7th of december and it was pending, today it bacame Pre ordered. I don't know if it is better but I have feeling that not really :( money pending, 1pound u payed before when i used google walet first time (thats just for confirming or something...) I asked google and just the usual answer that my phone will be with me in 6-7 weeks as my order confirm says ant that this is base just on the usual delivery time or something like that. I think they need some time to figure everything out and it will be sooner for everyone. If they gonna do it every single day they will find the way how to do it faster.
anonymous 13 December, 2012 00:36
Just checked and mine has also changed to Pre-Ordered. Nothing else has changed...
Really hoping this means there is movement!
anonymous 13 December, 2012 02:00
Mine's gone to "Pre-ordered" too....however, my credit card authorisation has expired....
anonymous 13 December, 2012 02:06
I ordered mine on 4th got an expected delivery time of 3-5 business days, its been 6 now and still no clue. I sent them an email they replied I will get it in the expected time even though I mentioned its PAST THE EXPECTED TIME!!!! Called them and they had no clue why it has not been delivered and said they will note down my complain try to resolve but didn't say how long it will take. How annoying is that? Google is atrocious.
anonymous 13 December, 2012 11:13
Placed my order at 5:06pm on the 4th, like so many others i was eager to secure an order before they went out of stock... annoyed that people who ordered later than me have been blessed with their handsets whilst i still have not heard... not compaining just yet as in fairness they have a little bit longer to cough up... but their 2 weeks are nearly up :O
Bit concerned by the change in my order status to 'pre-ordered'.... anyone got a solid idea on what this means? I hope that this does not mean they are out of stock again, i ordered early to avoid this! what is going on Google??
acapulco 13 December, 2012 15:01
I just got this from Three instead as their customer retentions department offered me an insanely good deal on it (hundreds of pounds cheaper than their advertised tariff, and cheaper than buying it from the play store and getting the sim-only deal I had planned to get). It's arriving tomorrow :-)
Might be an alternative if you don't mind being locked in for 24 months. I wouldn't upgrade before then anyway so was a good option for me. Just don't pay the hideous £35 a month, you can get it a LOT cheaper if you negotiate.
CaptainPicard 13 December, 2012 18:35
^How many minutes, texts and data you got?? I'm trying to do the same for a relative on the 3 network, he's been with them for so long too.
acapulco 14 December, 2012 15:13
^ It's the One Plan, so 2,000 mins, 5,000 3 to 3 minutes, 5,000 texts and unlimited data (allows tethering). I got it for £28 and free handset, and it arrived today. Shiny!! Now just need my micro SIM to activate.
I think this deal is only for existing customers, though, as a friend who ordered a handset through Google Play had a go at negotiating for similar and he couldn't get them to offer it.
anonymous 14 December, 2012 19:05
I ordered on 4th soon after the release announcement at 5:25 and saw estimated delivery 1-2 weeks, but payment hasn't been taken yet, and I heard rumours that some orders made on Wednesday 5th have arrived with the purchaser. Google declines to respond to queries!
CaptainPicard 14 December, 2012 23:39
@ Acapulco I believe that is a great deal. I called them a while back on behalf of the relative who has been with 3 for years and they gave us the same deal on the S3. But then the N4 came out so we decided to wait. And he may not use all the minutes but the deal we got for the S3 was better than paying cash upfront on a monthly tariff that offers less minutes.
And everyone else read this, its very helpful: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/cut-mobile-tariff
anonymous 14 December, 2012 23:57
my order status for the nexus 4 has turned to pre-order bought on the 4th dec at 5:50 with 4-5 weeks shipping. I am relieved as it guarantees me one once they come back and hopefully one from the best batch.
anonymous 15 December, 2012 00:33
i have ordered the phone on the november 30 and it still did not come to me, why is that???
anonymous 15 December, 2012 01:12
Ordered on the 4th Dec at 5:07pm with 1 - 2 weeks estimated shipping time, today contacted Google Play and they said it will be 3 - 4 weeks, as my order is on the back order, no exact date given. Maybe its time to cancel as my hope in Google is fading every day. If you see Pre-ordered on your order status, that mean you have to wait at least 3 - 4 weeks (not sure if the 3 - 4 weeks starts from the date you ordered or when the order status has changed).
anonymous 16 December, 2012 16:33
So, did anyone here get the phone? I'm still on pre ordered
anonymous 16 December, 2012 21:38
Mine changed to Pre-ordered a few days ago. Ordered at around 6pm on 8th, not even a email from Google other than the Confirmation email after you order. This is so bad. I really do hope I am lucky like you guys and get a random shipping email. Just want it before the end of December; not middle of January!
Mark Wheadon 17 December, 2012 18:55
We have to wait until the 19th before complaining. As our orders only transitioned to pre-ordered a few days ago it's pretty inevitable, and the helpdesk people could have chased things when we contacted them about later orders already being fulfilled.
But in their usual inept style when it comes to handling physical orders Google have just added our orders to the end of the queue when they //finally// noticed they were in state 'pending'. No admission that anything was wrong. No apology. No clue.
Sigh.
anonymous 18 December, 2012 08:19
I complained to google last week, got the expected generic reply... complained again yesterday and in the early hours of this morning got the comfirmation of dispatch email... just checked TNT and its out for delivery today!! I ordered a 16GB model with a 1-2 week wait, so although the service was useless and slow, Google have fulfilled the terms of the order in the end.....
anonymous 18 December, 2012 08:28
Ordered mine at 17:08 on the 4th and heard nothing until today. Got a 1-2 week shipping estimate and this morning I received an email saying it had been shipped. The TNT tracking number is not working yet though. Oh no TNT!
There was also an article in the guardian about it saying that the head of google UK has apologised and said they will refund postage for people with the 3-5 day delivery estimate.
Mark Wheadon 18 December, 2012 09:47
Yup, I take it back -- I have confirmation of shipping.
anonymous 18 December, 2012 10:27
I have received a shipping confirmation email today at 3am so I should get it today or tmrw. Ordered on the 4th Dec. Good luck to everyone.
anonymous 24 December, 2012 09:30
I bought it at 29 November and i got an email from google. "Thank you for your purchasing. You've made a purchase on Google Play. You will not be charged until your order has shipped." . Status changed to Pre-ordered at 6 December but still couldn't got my phones. 19 December is already passed away.
anonymous 24 December, 2012 09:31
anyone got a shipping confirmation email, who ordered at 29 November?
anonymous 25 December, 2012 11:23
@Mark Wheadon: when did you purchase it?
anonymous 27 December, 2012 14:01
"anyone got a shipping confirmation email, who ordered at 29 November?"
NO, I have not! Very frustrated to be treated like this as a customer
anonymous 27 December, 2012 22:39
@mark weadon prove it! cry baby
anonymous 28 December, 2012 06:52
everybody has to cancel their order and then google can understand how he has to care his customer. it is written 4-5 weeks while i am purchasing and 4 weeks alredy gone. sooo?
anonymous 28 December, 2012 11:34
I ordered on 27 Nov still didnt get shipping conformation. it is written 4-5 weeks

What was the shipping cost from google play for nexus 4. How much did u pay after tax n shipping?
