Lumigon T1 Android 2.2 phone could save Scandinavia's blushes

Mysterious Danish company Lumigon has released an official picture of a new smart phone running the Android 2.2 operating system. Called the T1, the smart phone has a sleek look and minimal Scandinavian aesthetic, and should be available on 20 October.

It will likely carry a Freescale 1GHz 3D processor, a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen and up to 32GB of memory with a microSD card slot. It looks as though Lumigon has developed its own user interface to skin Android.

The T1 will also have a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, as well as the usual Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, plus a compass and accelerometer.

It's obviously very brave of a company to market a phone in the face of competition from Apple, the Asian big boys and Nokia in neighbouring Finland.

First announced at Barcelona's Mobile World Congress, the T1 has already been delayed once after being promised in June, with Lumigon stating it had to change some primary features. The phone has been in development for the last two years, and the high-end phone market has seen some massive changes in that time.

You will be able to pre-order the device, but there's frustratingly little information, such as pricing or network availability. You can look at its Facebook page though.

It's difficult to know whether the wait will be justified, as Lumigon has no history of smart phone development. But it will be good to see another company bringing the Scandinavian design ethos to the smart phone market, what with the travails of Nokia in the last year.

The Finnish giant could very soon be back with the N8, however, which has been given a potential release date for the end of August, complete with a new Symbian 3 OS.
