The LG Optimus 4X HD is here, joining the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S3 as the first quad-core phones on shop shelves.
The 4X will arrive in the UK in the next few days, although the exact date and price hasn't been confirmed. It's not on Carphone Warehouse, Phones4U or any of the major networks at the time of writing -- honestly, it's like they don't want you to buy the thing.
But it is coming: the 4X is on sale now in Germany, and lands in the UK, Netherlands, Sweden and Italy in the coming days. Eastern Europe, South America, and Asia will follow later. Click play on our video below to see what the fuss is about:
The 4X HD packs a four-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, under a giant 4.7-inch touchscreen. The screen is a 720p high-definition display for watching the latest movies and TV in crisp detail.
It runs the latest version of Android software, Ice Cream Sandwich, with LG's Optimus UI 3.0 front end adding custom shortcuts and voice control for the 8-megapixel camera.
With its high-powered Tegra 3 chip and 1GB of RAM, the 4X has grunt to spare. That means it'll chew through intense, fast-moving, hi-def movies and games without breaking a sweat, but not everybody is convinced that phones need so much power.
Nokia, for one, claims that quad-core phones just waste battery, a sentiment echoed by Sony. They're not even that keen on dual-core phones like last year's Samsung Galaxy S2.
For our thoughts on the four-core war, check out our overview of the new generation of quad-core phones, including the 4X, the HTC One X and the Huawei D Quad.
Are you excited about the LG Optimus 4X HD? Is quad-core too much power, or do you need all the power the 4X can give you? Tell me your thoughts in the comments or on our Facebook page.

LG need to just give up. Nobody is going to buy any of their top end phones, who is going to pick this over an S3 or One X?
The UI looks seriously dated and the design of the phone is a blatant copy of the S2.

Looks and sounds great - I'll definitely give this a serious consideration when it launches. Has the specs to match the galaxy s3 but imo has a more attractive design. Certainly a better bet than the HTC which suffers from short battery life and has no expandable sd memory. I tried one out in frowns store- ok design but nothing to write home about, frankly. But the issue I have with it is the poor battery life - I've heard some horror stories from my friends and after checking out customer reviews on amazon I'm not even going to go near a one x let alone buy one.

If LG can iron out their buggy software this phone might just be the breakthrough they're looking for. It's got awesome specs and the design is pretty decent too.
When my contract runs out in two months' time I'll take a good look at this baby.
I agree with the user above, I think LG's are underrated and they are on balance no worse than htc's. I owned a htc desire and it was one of most disappointing phones i've had - it got extremely hot during use and the battery barely lasted 6-7 hours with medium use. For all the hype about the one x, it's simply a no-go for me.

What a nice phone!! LG Optimus 4X HD is gorgeous looking phone and expensive as well. I'm great fan of LG phone devices and so far I used various models as well. I'll definitely look forward to purchase this phone. Thanks

For the first time ever there is a real contender from LG, so much so I have pre-ordered this very phone. I see there are some real Samsungettes here as the comment "Looks like the SII" said - yep, that's why I bought it, I like my SII so much I don't want the pebble shaped SIII, I also don't want it in blue or white, equally, I like to be able to remove my battery when on the odd occasion it locks up and also the LG has a slightly faster better processor. Indeed the LG software is a bit clunky, but I would rather that than the Samsung or HTC Bloatware that comes pre-loaded on their devices - all round it does it for me :-)

I would, on the evidence presented here.
I have a friend who purchased a htc one x and is already regretting it, just three weeks into ownership. He's complaining about the disappointing battery life and non-expandable memory and now he's wishing he'd waited and checked out this offering from LG.
If LG can sort out their flakey user software and overhaul their UI then I think they are on to a winner here.
Personally I can't wait to try out this phone in person! :)
