Typical: you wait ages for an Android update, and then three come along at once. LG is finally updating the LG Optimus 3D, LG Optimus Black and LG Optimus 2X to Android Gingerbread 2.3.
An update for the LG Optimus 2X, pictured above, is available today. The LG Optimus 3D goes Gingerbread from 21 November, and the LG Optimus Black gets the update from 28 November. After the three top-of-the-line Optimuses -- Optimii? -- are updated in Europe, owners of those three phones in the rest of the world and the rest of the range will be updated.
Before you get too excited, that timetable refers to unlocked phones -- if you're on a network contract it may well take longer.
Gingerbread is the most recent version of Android, although not for much longer: the next version, Ice Cream Sandwich, has been unveiled and will debut on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus later this month.
Gingerbread brings slight changes to the notification bar and keyboard, adds video calling and a download manager. Other features, such as NFC, aren't that relevant in this country. Click here to see the details of every version of Android.
Android updates can take a while to reach your phone because manufacturers tend to add their own front end and apps to Google's software. LG's interface isn't the most complex, so it's a mystery why it's taken so long to be updated.
Do you own an Optimus or a different Android phone? Are you still waiting for an update? Are there any features you're dying to get your hands on, or are you happy just the way you are? Tell us in the comments below or on our Facebook page.

I have no faith in LG what so ever now.

I still have my LG Optimus 2x and it's been unbeliavable how slow they have been in getting this out, but the wait could have been tolerable if they would just say how far they were in the process instead of being incredibly vague to the point of no communication.
I look forward to this update, but they seriously have to get their act together with ICS and future updates.

Length of chat: 00:04:04

7:47 PM Mobile Phone Support: Hello, You. Can I help you with anything today?
7:48 PM Mobile Phone Support: Good afternoon, you're through to John. How can I help?
7:48 PM Me: It's rumoured that Gingerbread is being released today for the Optimus 2x, any idea on time frames for the UK?
7:51 PM Mobile Phone Support: Unfortunately we don't have a release date for Android 2.3 yet, the rumour regarding it being released today was de-confirmed. We can confirm, however, that it will be released before the end of this year.

Still no sign of this update in the UK. The problems with this product should have been fixed months ago, I am sure that other manufacturers don't expect you to pull the battery out several times a day when the phone locks up.

Want to know when my orange optimus 2x will get gingerbread?!?

Would like the latest and greatest OS for better battery life & dual-core support.
But mainly so I can get rid of the pre-installed un-removalable apps.

Will the software update automatically from 2.2 to 2.3 onto our phone? Or are there steps or software you need to download etc?

Finally the wait is over... ahoy for(2.3.4+ update) , I bought LG Optimus black last month and I was amazed with features and performance, the only lagging thing was battery life, I removed all active applications like weather, other monitors except battery monitoring software, and also set it to 2G only and battery performance has improved drastically, also they have latest 2.2.2, LG-970-V10f release and it has excellent battery management/improvement. I am looking forward to 2.3.4+ update for battery management(graphical+sleep) , video call features, improvement in response time. Although I believe it wont affect the end result much.

I had a lengthy conversation with LG support yesterday. I Am on an unlocked LG optimus 3D. According to LG we people in the UK should see it about 5th December and it will be available O.T.A.
It is already released for certain parts of Europe as can be seen in supporting models menu in LG update tool.
Patience is needed i guess. But I agree it shouldnt have taken this long.
