LG GM750 joins incoming Windows Mobile 6.5 hordes

What's that coming over the hill? It's a rampaging gang of Windows Mobile 6.5 phones. The latest version of Microsoft's operating system is launching on 6 October, and with it comes a bundle of handsets, including the LG GM750.

The GM750 joins the HTC Touch2 in spreading the WinMob 6.5 love, which is 0.4 better than Win Mob 6.1, which means it's lame-point-4. We've taken 6.5 for a spin a few times, and although it's more finger-friendly than the previous version, it still has many examples of the tiny icons and convoluted menus that made us dislike 6.1.

However, for Windows Mobile fans who like their PC so much they want to carry a tiny version of it in their pockets, and business suits who're forced to take on WinMob by their IT monkeys, 6.5 will be a sight for sore eyes.

The GM750 will have a 76mm (3-inch) touchscreen, and the Windows operating system will be coated in LG's S-Class user interface. We look forward to seeing how the S-Class UI works with WinMob to improve its usability, because at the moment it just confuses us.

The phone will support Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync to grab your work email, calendar and contacts. You'll be able to install one of the zillions of apps that are already out there for Windows Mobile, some of which will be available from the Windows Marketplace for Mobile.

Details about the GM750's other specs are thin on the ground, but LG promises us that more information will be on its way soon.

The GM750 will be exclusively available on Vodafone until the end of the year.
