Jabra BT800: screen your calls wirelessly

The problem with going handsfree is you never know who's calling until it’s too late. Well, that used to be the problem, until Jabra brought out its latest piece of Bluetooth wizardry, the BT800.

With its backlit blue LCD screen you can see exactly who’s calling you without having to fish around for the handset. Perfect if you’re in the middle of something or just too lazy to remember where you left it, and with voice dialing as well this has got to be the most advanced headset we’ve seen here at Crave.

When we hooked it up to a Nokia 6630 we were very impressed: fast reaction to incoming calls, with numbers clearly displayed on the screen and some decent ringtones. The sound quality was excellent and it took us running a good thirty metres away from the handset before it started to break up.

It wasn’t all good news… We had a false start when we tried pairing the BT800 with a Sony Ericsson P900. No number came up during incoming calls, and there was a six second delay before it noticed the handset was ringing.

A Google check of Jabra’s compatibility table told us that the P900, like a number of other handsets, is not compatible with the BT800. In fact, if you own a Treo 650, a Motorola V710, a Blackberry 7100 or many other smart phones, then this is a no-go. Perhaps they should call it an incompatibility table.

If it is compatible with your mobile, this is one of the best headsets around, but check first. -- EC
