Is this the first 'ultrapixel' photo from the HTC M7/One?

The HTC leaks continue. Just yesterday, we heard the forthcoming HTC M7 could be known as the HTC One when it goes on sale, and now comes what could be the first photo taken with the device's camera.

The snap was uploaded to Flickr and linked to by Twitter account @evleaks, Pocketnow reports. It's listed as being taken with the HTC One, though it could have been cropped and compressed for uploading to the Web.

According to the Exif data, the aperture is f/2.0, with a focal length of 3.6mm, and ISO speed of 103.

HTC has said it'll "kick off a new sound and camera experience" this year, which many think is a reference to the new imaging skills of the forthcoming flagship. Earlier in the week, Pocket-Lint claimed the new phone would ditch megapixels in favour of ultrapixels. Sources told the site that the device's camera would be made up of three 4.3-megapixel sensor layers that would combine to give a single image. This would yield better results than just shoving a 13-megapixel sensor into the mobile.

The sources said three lots of data would combine to make a crisper, cleaner image, with more accurate colours.

The HTC One/M7 is due to be officially announced at an event on 19 February. HTC head honcho Peter Chou has already showed off the device at a company knees-up, where he whipped it out and started snapping away. He also led a chant with the crowd. "M7! M7! M7! HTC One! HTC One! HTC One!"

The device is rumoured to keep the three capacitive touch buttons below the screen, as seen on the HTC One X, and to run HTC Sense 5.0 on top of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The 4.7-inch screen is said to be 1080p resolution, and inside, a 1.7GHz quad-core processor should keep things ticking over nicely.

This phone promises to be a beast. What do you reckon of this shot? And can the device help bring back HTC's former glory days? Let me know in the comments, or on our Facebook page.

The main reason why it would look better than a single 13mp camera, would be the instant, hdr pictures that could be taken with the three different exposure settings with the three different sensors, and the fact that each of them could be tweaked to provide a much better hdr picture.

The fixation on camera quality is a bit strange. It's nice to have progress but it's not really a big selling point as they'd like to think. When it comes to every day use, build quality, battery life and software updates are by far the most crucial things you should consider when buying a phone. The problem is no sales-rep is going to tell you that. They will go on about the number of pixels on the screen, stupid LTE, brand and other things that have very little impact in day-to-day use. You have to learn that the hard way, which incurs buying a phone with crap build quality, bad battery life and slow updates to realize that those are things that really are important in the long run.

I agree Meleagru, I got a One X and it does have many positives and JB (Android 4.1) is overrated in my opinion but I wish I got a phone with a removable battery. Battery life sucks on all phones but Samsung has been able to get away with it because it's one of the few manufacturers that still include a removable battery.

Samsung Galaxy phones weren't that superior to HTC phones, but Sammy had much better marketing. Both the One X & S3 and even the iPhone had many problems, but Samsung's and Apple's adverts showed its phones in use whereas HTCs showed a man jumping from a plane :-\

Actually, for some of us, that IS an important feature. For me that's the most important feature, the camera. I am sick of having to compromise one thing over another. I had a Nokia 808 Pureview and the camera is just amazing. As good as my 35mm on short range shots. It of course doesn't have all the features like telephoto zoom. The operating system, however, killed the experience, so I'm back to a Sony phone with mediocre camera abilities, but great apps, and speed.

I am waiting for someone to "get it right" with a killer camer AND a good ecosystem. My hope is the M7 is that phone. If not, maybe the upcoming Nokia Eos, or whatever it may be called. I'm frankly shocked that it hasn't been done yet. Maybe the likes of Sony don't want to create the all in one device because it would cannibalize their other camera lines.

Hello, email me jakerz20@hotmail.co.uk , I have an image of the design of the HTC M7. I am happy to send the image, although, my email I used there will be deleted after the M7 is shown, the images are not 100% correct, they are 83% design is right, but the main buttons are not accurate. The HTC M7 (HTC ONE) will be shown in London and New York on the 19th February 2013, if you cannot wait that long just email me, many thanks, HTCM7LEAKS. P.S.: The Email will be deleted on the 20th February 2013. Do not use it after that time. Again, thanks.
